Pony Corral / G5 - Share Photos of your Ponies, Please!
« on: September 08, 2021, 09:05:50 AM »
Hi all,

I am trying to nip this in the bud before it becomes G4-levels of "so difficult to discern which release is which". I just got the Amazon set with 9 ponies and there are some minute differences between them and the Crystal Adventure releases but I'm concerned some of this may just be normal variations between batches.

If you have any of the poseable G5 ponies, could you please take a picture of her and include a closeup of her symbol? Also please tell us which one you have. It's okay if the pictures aren't the greatest, I'm mostly looking to find discernable differences in the shape of the paint as well as confirming color differences between manes.

For example, I suspect a difference between the Zipps may be the angle of the blue stripe on her symbol, and a key difference between the other ponies being the colors of their manes.

Customs / G5 Dismantling - 3 Inch Brushables
« on: August 27, 2021, 11:36:09 AM »
New pony, new dismantlement guide. :)

I performed a total bait process on Sunny Starscout from the Unicorn Party Celebration set. This process should be the same for all other 3-inch brushables with manes and tails. Not sure about Hitch.

These pictures aren't the greatest but should help you if you wish to customize G5 ponies as well.

Head
More or less the same as the Pony Life/G4.5 ponies. Here's a link to that guide.

They have two rows of plugs on the back of their head with the balljoint...receiver? attached to a separate, glued on piece of plastic. You can cut around this plastic by following the seam. I like to leave a small arc of the plsatic uncut so I don't lose the plug but you can cut it off wholly. It will need glue to re-attach regardless.

On the inside, you will see a glueless factory weave! I was very happy to see this as it means customizing them will be somewhat easier compared to scraping at G3 glue for hours.

As a bonus, the nearness of the head and the wide neck plug means you can fairly easily use a needle and floss or lock-and-loop method to rehair. I'll probably use the LaL kind when I customize her.

Body
I would not blame anyone if they didn't want to actually properly dismantle the body. It's a bit of work.

Like Pony Life ponies, there is no way to access the tail through the neck. You instead need to look to their stomachs, there is an oval piece of plastic glued there. Follow the seam with your knife, and don't be afraid to push in somewhat when you are on the longer sides of the oval.

Here's her tummy starting to peel up. It took a bit of muscle and messing with her to get the plug up.

The plug isn't actually a perfectly even oval thickness-wise. It's got two small flaps.

Here's a little diagram to show you what it looks like completely removed.

There is a rather large chamber for the tail and its clasp to sit. You will feel when your knife is in the chamber.

Here's her body all apart! I left part of the belly plug on again because I don't want to lose it. You can pretty easily remove the tail through the belly. The clasp is smaller than G4 ponies! And now I have a tail to guage thickness with.

I can help answer questions with better pictures if there are any. I'm off to brainstorm a plan for her!

Pony Corral / Really Really Long Unboxing/Review of G5 Toys
« on: July 16, 2021, 09:07:26 AM »
I got a hold of two of the Crystal Adventure ponies and unboxed them...it took over half an hour.
I have to color correct the rest of the pictures I took before the images go up on G5MLP and MLW. Here's sunny:

Overall, I think they're really nice and of gnenerally good quality! There are actually slight body differences between Sunny and Pipp, and I'm curious how the rest of the ponies will compare.

Customs / G5 to G4 - Pipp Petals Custom

I started this custom back in May (!!) and she's been completed for about a month now! About time I make a post for her.
She started off as a sad Rainbow Dash in the later head mold. Her hooves and wings had a bit of apoxie sculpt to make them more G5-ish. She has been airbrushed with pink/white acrylics. Her details were painted in acrylics by hand. After sealing, she has some fun flock mod podged over her feathers and wings.
Her hair is French Lilac from TheDollPlanet. I am super impressed with the qualiy of this nylon! I went with TDP after seeing Shimmerlocks didn't have the appropriate shade, and I will certainly be making more purchases from TDP now that they have normal nylon.
I am quite proud of her! There are some marks that came from her being in a box for a month, and I wish I had taken her eyes even slower or drawn out an eyelash plan before painting, but I'm very pleased with her details in comparison to my past customs. I should also try to not go months between airbrushing and detail painting so I could have used some of her body paint to cover up some mistakes.
I think I should make Queen Haven next since she doesn't seem to be getting any releases aside from blind bags. :)

Pony Corral / NEW IDW has announced G5 comics
« on: June 21, 2021, 08:01:20 AM »
I'm just going to insert the Wiki article here since I've put all that we know so far on it. :)

OLD:
I can't actually link to the eggy daily site but here's a quote:
Quote
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 21, 2021) – Since its very inception in 2012, the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic monthly comic book series from IDW has captured the hearts and minds of filly fans everywhere. Now, after almost a decade of publication, we bid a fond farewell to Friendship is Magic with September’s issue #102, the oversized conclusion of the official “Season 10” storyline that picked up where the beloved animated series left off.
...
But friends, never fear! Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity will return in a new series beginning in October: My Little Pony: Generations! Written by Casey Gilly and illustrated by Michela Cacciatore, the new five-issue miniseries will see the Ponies of two separate generations collide, as the familiar faces from Friendship is Magic must call upon the original G1 Ponies of the 1980s for help against a new witch threat erupting from the Volcano of Doom!
...
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #102, by longtime contributors Jeremy Whitley and Andy Price, delivers the long-awaited climax of the “Season 10” story arc. With the Knights of Order launching an all-out assault on Equestria, the Mane 6 must face a foe singularly focused on capturing the Elements of Harmony. It’s a good thing that they have a lot of friends, old and new, upon whom they can rely!

Customs / Seaflower 2.0 - From Bait to Betterment
« on: May 28, 2021, 11:12:45 AM »
This was a challenge for me! First time doing gradients and more complex painting than I'm used to. I'm pretty proud of myself, though!
It's been so long since I got the bait, it's actually not on eBay for me to grab pics of anymore! But here's a tiny one:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I don't take my repainting decision lightly. She had highlighter - which itself is fixable - but the pockmarks and bites all over her body needed something more drastic than sunfading. And since I'd already have to paint over the filled holes...you can see where I went with this.
Besides, she had a large mark on one of her eyes that needed fixing (All of the Seaflowers I've had have something like this! Weird).
I started off by filling her holes and fixing her face with Apoxie Sculpt. I need to invest in some sandpaper and really work on blending it into the body, but I think it turned out alright for this. :) Her body is airbrushed and then painted with some cheap acrylics from Michaels. Her hair is Shimmerlocks - I don't remember what her blue hair blend is! But her pink stripe is "Harbor Island" from their site.
Overall, I'm pretty proud with her. I think her eyes turned out really well (that's usually a problem spot for me). There's some extra marks that came on her after sealing but she displays wonderfully and it's a lovely improvement from where she was beforehand.

I would love to do more in the future, but I'd seek out really crappy baits for stuff like this rather than painting over perfect ponies. More fun that way. :)

Pony Corral / MOVED: Is it okay for ponies to touch clay

I thrifted one of these, started defrizzing, got mad her hair was cut, so I'm going to rehair mine. Here's the steps I took to actually be able to do that.

Getcha horse and cut her hair off.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

That's one short hair horse.

I will not be talking about how to get the fins out. I tried to just yank 'em but I was afraid the plastic would rip. If anyone takes these out for whatever reason, I'd love to see a better process!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

But you can see how these connect in to the body. They may be glued, but I didn't see anything that looked like it.

You can't yank the head off. At least, I haven't found a good way to do that. What I did is I simply cut down the back of her neck up to the front hair plugs and took her head off like a mask.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

There is a lot of glue. Most of it is on the hair and the back of the neck. You can see in the picture that there is also a large bulb that holds the colored water when you tip her upside down. This is why we struggle.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

It looks like the hair is rooted, glue was insert into the head, and then pushed onto the bulb. A lot of the hair on the back of the neck stuck to the bulb and I had to use a knife to pick it away.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

What a pretty horsey.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Here's the mask face that came off. I did put it back on the bulb for a short time and it looks like the plastic is stretched over the bulb which helps to hold it on-it's a bit short to make it. Not a problem for me since I was anticipating having to use apoxie sculpt to seal up the seam again and paint over, but something to consider if you do not have that nor any other sort of adhesive at your disposal.

Here's the bulb then without most of the hair. There's still a lot of glue but you can see where it's concentrated now:

No Finished Look pictures since I have to order the hair now and decide what to rehair her as (or maybe customize? I'm thinking). I didn't split the body but I wonder if it would be possible to replace the colored water with some other colors (or put glitter). I'll think about it some. :)

I hope this helps if anyone else wants to rehair or simply just likes watching ponies get cut open!

I've wanted to make a new set of adoptables for a while, finally just took the time to make a base!
This is based off of a G4 coloring page with Fluttershy, I think the vector was also featured on some sleeping fabric.
Three flavors! Morning, Evening, and Night.

You know the drill, official ponies can be used by anybody (including the ponies above!), persona/ponysonas only by the person who owns it.
I can add some small details (like leg gradients etc) but larger accessories are on a case-by-case basis. Doesn't hurt to ask. Only one hairstyle, sorry! Earthies, Unicorns, Pegasi, and Alicorns are all acceptable.

Here's what I need:
Pony Reference?:
Morning, evening, or night?:
Are you an early bird or a night owl?:

These should be the appropriate weight for siggys. :)

Pony Corral / Pony Life Season 2 / Magical Bats, Peacocks, and Tigers!
« on: March 12, 2021, 03:24:51 PM »
Wasn't gonna start a thread on just PL season 2, but these animals are...interesting.
First things first:
We have six episode titles so far. Episode Guide is and will be up to date.
Quote
Cute Impact
The Crystal Capturing Contraption
Close Encounters of the Balloon Kind
The Tiara of Truth
Time After Time Capsule
The Great Cowgirl Hat Robbery
Season 2 will begin airing on April 2nd on TinyPop for UK folk. No other airdates for English airings have been found.
Tiny Pop's site has a printout page with various coloring pages. Aside from standard Mane 6 pages, we have some interesting characters!
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Other coloring pages show us that the bat is named Echo, the peacock is Sugar Snap, and the tiger is Lightning Chill.
No colors for these characters as far as I can see, just the same picture of them pasted in a few different pages.
When I posted about the original article to my PL friends, no one noticed the summary either...
Quote
The Mane 6 – Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie – will experience exciting and otherworldly events such as the opening of a magical portal, travelling through time, and even visiting another dimension where they will meet some truly wild new friends.
I know the general consensus on PL is negative, but I think the new animal characters are very cute! I love that the tiger has hair, I'm curious if these will get toy releases. We had blind bag figures that were animals with horns, but none of them were either of these three. Unfortunately, we didn't have any G4.5 toys shown off that weren't those EQG dress up sets or the Smashin's.
I'll have to dig around and keep my eye open for other official art of these three. Maybe we'll see early April if nothing else! We don't have any synopsi for when these might appear, just the titles of the episodes to go off.
