Off Topic / Help me ID this creepy fakie.... thing....
« on: August 02, 2013, 11:52:10 AM »
So, I found this nightmare fuel fakie... dog.... thing....
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

On it's feet there's one stamp that appears to say "TCFC INC. 1986" and another foot reads "CHINA".
It also has this weird plug thing on it's belly:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

And finally, it's mane/tail/ears(?) thingie runs all the way along it's back, except where the collar sits:

I've looked around the fakie resource-type sights and can't find anything that looks like these.  Anyone know what this THING is?  :wonder:

Others -
I'm currently looking for Fairy Winkle toys.  These are intended for my 3-year-old niece so they don't have to be minty!

Tiny Swap Questions

Do you have any food or fragrance allergies?
Not that I am aware of, but I do have sensitive skin so I tend to stay away from inexpensive soaps, lotions and perfumes

What kind of candy or snacks do you like? Any dislikes?

Likes - good dark chocolate, rainbow twizzlers, Hi-Chew (especially grape!), Pocky, anything raspberry or peach flavored.
Dislikes - white chocolate, anything green apple flavored

Tell us a little about yourself! Maybe your favorite color, music, animal. Do you collect anything besides ponies? Do you have any kids or pets? Are you into any crafts? Be creative here!
Girly, crafty, nerdy - good things to keep in mind about me!
I love Japanese street fashion (especially Lolita and Hime Gyaru) and absolutely anything "kawaii".  Pink is my favorite color and I love stuff with lace, pearls and floral prints.  I also really like stuff with strawberry or crown designs.  Fun colored and printed tights may be one of my favorite things ever!
In crafting, I'm sort of a jack-of-all-trades.  I do a bit of paper craft, sewing, costume making, drawing, jewelry making and I even bake and make bento.  I've tried to learn to knit but I just feel I'm too lazy for it   Jewelry making is probably my forte.  I love wearing jewelry I've made as well as sharing it with other people.  I'm a big fan of baking/decorating cupcakes, but just don't do it often because then I MUST eat them
I have been slowly getting into pony customs and alternate rehairs, as well (I'm looking at you Pinkie Pie who's going to be a Green Ranger Pony  )
I'm a big nerd, no lies!  I cosplay, play board games, video games and love cartoons.  My biggest video game loves are Gears of War, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Bioshock though I play a rather huge variety of games.  Some friends finally got me into Doctor Who, so I'm into that stuff now   I also love anything Adventure Time or Sailor Moon.
My favorite music is pretty much video game soundtracks Mass Effect 3 and Bioshock: Infinite are probably my favorites right now.
Aside from that, I collect La-La-Loopsies (the tiny dolls, not the big ones, and am in love with the ponies), Hello Kitty stuff, honeybee things and have a thing for penguins.  I like steampunk-y stuff (like old fashioned keys and gears) that I can work into jewelry and craft projects, and to just have around.  I also adore silly (and good smelling) pens.
Finally, I share many of my ponies with my 3-year-old (almost 4) niece, so any lightly loved ponies I can add to her special shelf are always greatly appreciated  ^.^

What pony condition(s) are acceptable or unacceptable to you? (ie haircuts, rubs, spots, ect.)

I am so NOT picky.  I don't like anything too obvious, but as long as they still display nicely or I can fix them, I really don't mind.  I'm actually starting to love haircuts and bald ponies because I really like re-hairing and doing alternate re-hairs.
Bad smells are a no-no though - please no cigarette or mildew smell.

Do you have an army?
Yes - Pinkie Pie!  G3 and G4 though I'd love any alternate gen cutoms or altnerate rehairs!

Equestria Girls dolls?
No thank you, I don't really care for them

Do you cusromize ponies?
I try and like altnerate rehairs, so I'd appreciate supplies!!

Would you like customs or alternate rehairs?
Yes, yes!  Especially Pinkie Pie, Morrigan (the one in my sig), anything from my favorite games or my oc - Siha is a beige pegasus with pink gradient feet, long curly hair that's dark red with a pink underside and two crossed black feathers as a cutie mark

Generations you like/dislike
So far I mostly have g1 and g4 with a bit of g3, I've recently discovered a love of g2's.
I pretty much just don't care for 3.5 and eq girls

All time favorite ponies
Princess Cadence, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie.  Also Baby Princess Sparkle, Princess Tiffany, and any of the g1 "berry butts"

Extra from where my box came from?
So cool!!  Yes!!

Would you like something knitted
I absolutely love and appreciate handmade things!

Beaded jewelry sizes/types
I love handmade jewelry.  I wear anything, really.  I want to say my wrist is about 6" (I usually wear stretchy bracelets and cuffs so im not really sure). Necklaces, 10" or longer is good.  Anything for earrings, just nothing too heavy and my ears do rract to some inexpensive metals.

Nail Polish
Yes!!  I like primcess-y pimks and any dark colors.  Sometimes the weirder the better - I actuwlly have something called "fuzzy coat"     I'm fine with glitter, too.

Funky socks
I love socks, and actually have a horde of penguin socks.  I especially have a thing for knee socks anc over-the-knee socks.  Im a US size 8-8 1/2

Random stuff
Sometimes that's the most fun stuff!!

Pierced Ears
Yes.  I am senstive to some inexpensive metals, though, so I tend to be careful.  I like a lot of pink and blue jewelry, and love straight up metals (silver anc copper especially) since those can go with anything.

Stickers
I love to share them with my niece.  I especially like sparkly or smelly kind.

Homemade treats
If you would like to send them, wow!  Yes please!!

Make-up
I love Sephora brand, eye crayons, and fun colored eyeliner pencils.  I like pinks, golds, and browns.

Do you have a child, younger sibling, spouse, or roommate that may appreciate something extra in the box just for them?

I live with my parents, but with my dad's job most of the time it's just me and Mom.  She collects laybugs/things with ladybugs on them.

Do you have any pets? Would you like to receive any toys or treats for them as extras?

My mom has two Australian Shepherds, Quiggley and Kylie.  However, they are very spoiled and don't need anything

Dear partner, Do you like/collect plushies, coloring books, stickers or any other pony themed things in particular?
Not especially.  I don't really care for many of the MLP plushies (aside from the Aurora, TY and BABW g4 ones).  Coloring books and stickers I'm more likely to share with my niece than keep.

Partner, are there any small extras or non MLP items that you would be happy to receive in your swap box?
Anything?  Any of the candy I listed (or anything delicious you think I should try).  I always appreciate nice bookmarks since I'm almost always reading something.  I also love the following: Adventure Time, Hello Kitty, La-La-Loopsy, Sailor Moon, Gears of War, Bioshock, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Castlevania, Borderlands, Pokemon, Archer, Doctor Who (I'm a 9th Doctor girl, but I also LOVE the War Doctor), Disney (Frozen, Tangled, Beauty and the Beast & Aladdin are my faves)

Do you like Mobile Phone covers & Mobile Phone charms? If this is a yes what make is your phone?
I do, on both, but I have the hardest time finding covers for my phone unless I go online. I have a Motorola Droid Razr XT912
However, I'm of two minds about a case, since my contract is up in June and I'll be getting a new phone then (since this one is having issues with it's charger plugin)
Charms are always great though!

Do you collect Monster High items?

I haven't, but I have recently discovered the character Rebbecca Steam and am completely in love with her.... She's a steampunk robot!  So awesome!!

Are you a coffee or tea drinker?  What kind do you like?
I'm a both!  I really love flavored coffees and love the smaller local-type companies.
I drink loose leaf tea, and mostly herbal kind since I tend to drink tea at night.  I'm just getting to old to drink caffeine after 7pm....  ^^;

Partner, do you like pony or any other fan art? If so, what would you like drawn?

Yes, if you can and feel up to it.  I'd love to see ponies combined with my other fandoms.  Especially Gears of War, Mass Effect (omg James Vega riding a pony lol), Doctor Who (I have a silly thing about the 8th Doctor riding ponies).  Also, I love Pan's horse form in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and would love to see it MLP style

Do you like/want some pony wear? If so, are there favorite outfits you'd like?

Not really.  I got my baby snow suit, so I'm pretty set.

What's everyone's favorite types of animals real or myth?
Honeybees (I'm counting it as an animal and you can't stop me  ) and penguins

Anyone opposed to ponies not being wrapped up pretty if it means I can fit more in the box?

As others have said, fine as long as it's in a ziplock bag or something of the sort.

How do you store and/or display your ponies? For example, in boxes, on shelves, on playlets, with accessories . .
.
I have a small shelf I keep them on, and my few MIB/MOC hang on the wall with command hooks.
My plush Spike lives on my bedside table (with my plush Pokemon, it's pretty cute) and my bee-butt pony collection (Honeycomb, Bumblesweet, and Honeybuzz) are on my vanity dresser so I can look at them while I'm getting ready for work in the morning.  ^.^

favorite movies/ music
Movies:
Disney (Tangled, Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin) Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, and Howl's Moving Castle are my favorites), The House of Flying Daggers, Hero, The Princess Diaries (even though the books are way better), The Wedding Singer, Sophie's Revenge (it's a foreign romantic comedy staring Zhang Ziyi and it's hilarious), Memoirs of a Geisha
Music:
I mostly answered this in my original post but I will add that I like a lot of classical and pop music.  I'll listen to pretty much anything but country and rap (and I even have exceptions to those) as long as there's not screaming in it.
I will add I found a YouTube playlist for Bioshock that had all of the music that will play on the various phonographs throughout Rapture... it was sort of Heaven to listen to at work.

OK, question for my partner... I found a pony that I am almost 100% sure you don't have, from what you described on your list, but it has drier hair than planned.  I got it anyway, as I really think you will love it...will the hair be an issue, especially if it is an army pony that I think you are going to just go nuts over?OK, question for my partner... I don't even worry about hair, since I like re-hairing  :)

What are your hobbies?
Video games, costuming/cosplay, nearly anything crafty (lots and lots of jewelry-making) reading - currently the Percy Jackson books.

Just I want to know if it is ok to take things out of packets so I can get more in?
Absolutely!  I was planning on doing this myself, if I needed to  ;)

Pony Corral / Resonable Price for Princess Baby Sparkle
« on: August 01, 2013, 09:20:13 AM »
Okay - Not really a price check at all, so let me explain the whole deal-i-o!

My boss recently bought a collection of G1 MLP to resell.  All of the cleaning and maintence to get them ready to be sold has fallen to me.  One pony I'd had on my personal wish list was Princess Baby Sparkle, and to my surprise I found her in one of the boxes one day!  She looks rather pretty too!

Now, my conundrum is this... I'm too nice.  I don't want to completely screw over my boss, but I don't want to pay $25+ for a baby pony....
I had one co-worker tell me that I should just pay $5 and take her (since I cleaned them, I found her, and he wouldn't know that she sold for a lot on eBay had I not said anything), but I'd feel really guilty doing that.  Normally, I'd get a 25% discount on anything I buy in the store.... so given the situation, what do you guys think is a fair price to ask?  I know he's going to want to haggle on it, because that's just how he is, too...

Also!  I want to make it perfectly clear, I want this little pink and white sparkly baby to be a part of my collection.  I have no intention of buying low just to resell her.

Off Topic / Did you "Abuse" Your Toys?
« on: July 28, 2013, 06:55:08 AM »
Seeing so many of the cut hair, painted on, nail polished, and marker-ed ponies really got me wondering.  Did any of you guys do that kind of thing as a kid?  To your ponies, barbies, or any other dolls and toys?

My parents never had a lot of money, and new toys were always a treat (outside of holidays and birthdays).  It was very well known, in my house, growing up that if we wrecked our toys that way we wouldn't be getting new ones.... for a looooong time (even more long than normal).  The threat worked.  I can't say I ever remember my older sister or I marking on or cutting doll hair (though I think we had a baby doll that we put eye shadow on, but that wipes off ).

Pony Brag Arena / Oh my Gosh! My first bee pony!
« on: July 23, 2013, 08:56:09 AM »
Alright, so I love bees!  Specifically honeybees with their cute fuzzy bodies and cute little pollen sacks on their legs!  And yes, I know it's sort of strange, but I grew up with a mom that LOVED lady bugs so loving bugs doesn't seem that weird to me.
A few weeks ago I went through making myself a personal wish-list to, kind of, keep myself organized.  A few days later I was looking through the sales section of the forum and found these two:

(Breezie was on the list, too)
I'm super excited to have ticked any of the ponies off of my want list, and then one was Bumblesweet!?  I would, pretty much, consider any bee-butt pony a grail for me at this point in time!  :yippee:

And here's some Bumblesweet photo-spam because I love her so much

....and I admit that I still need to brush her hair....

Off Topic / Bugs in my apartment - Advice?
« on: July 16, 2013, 09:11:13 AM »
Okay, every summer this time of year, there seems to be a trend of getting fruit flies in the apartment. However, those are easily dealt with.  This year, it's been one thing after another...
First we got what a friend referred to as "drain flies". They look like fruit flies but there's nothing out for fruit flies (I know better by now) and they're not attracted to the traps.  They appear to be coming out of the drains in the kitchen AND the bathrooms too.
Next it was ants... I know I tend to be a person that lives in clutter, but I don't leave dirty stuff or food laying around.  I don't know why I got ants in the first place.
Now it's these things:
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

They look sort of like ants, but they have wings and clearly attracted to lights and light colors (like the white bookshelf next to my bed).  I have no idea what they are, and are currently slightly swarming in my place.  I thought they might be related to the ants (which are smaller) but I saw them trying to eat each other this morning.
It looks like the ants and winged-ant-things are coming in from a space between the carpet and the floorboard of our apartment.

This is driving me crazy because, aside from fruit flies, we've never had bugs in the apartment, in the 5 years we've lived there.  I'm really concerned about what to use to try and get rid of them because I have cats.  Also, the ants and winged-ant-things are in the living room and I sleep on the couch in there due to significant back problems.  Has anyone had these things in there places?  Do you have any advice?  Possible natural deterrents...?

Customs / Apoxie Sculpt?
« on: July 15, 2013, 01:36:00 PM »
So, I have some customizing I would like to do that would require some sculpting.  It's mostly to make little jewelry bits, but in one case I need to repair a slightly gnawed foot...
I've been reading about using different clays for customs, and have some experience with Sculpy, but like what I'm hearing about using apoxie sculpt.
So, I guess, this comes down to 2 questions:
Is there a good place to find this stuff, not online?  I mean, I don't have a problem buying online, but like to shop local first.  Otherwise, is there a place online you recommend buying?
Secondly, what's a good amount to get?  I don't plan on doing a ton of stuff with it, and the smallest quantity I've found online is a 1/4 pound... At the same time I can't help but worry it won't be enough (because I'm a crazy worry wart )

Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!!

Pony Brag Arena / My first actual Goodwill finds!
« on: July 11, 2013, 08:42:20 AM »
I'd been having a really crummy couple of days (which is an understatement, but not why I'm here!)... I was going down to visit my mom, and on the way there I pass a Goodwill.  It's the good one in my area, but not the closest one so I don't stop as often as I should....

But for once, at a Goodwill, I found stuff!  It wasn't GREAT but I'm still really excited....
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I plan to practice painting on the McDonald's ponies... and it was, like, $1.00 for a bag with two of them an some other toys that my niece was THRILLED to receive.  I'm curious if the G2 one is a McDonald's toy too, though.  She has a loop on her back which makes it look like she may have been a key chain at one point.  Then a G3 Cotton Candy and a rather nightmare-ish fakie that I completely fell in love with
I'm most excited about the Celebrations Salon, though.  It didn't come with any of the accessories, but I mostly wanted it to display some of my G3's with, and for the price I think I did okay...  I'm kind of in love with it, regardless!

Check out my fakie, though:

After consulting with my husband and some friends, she's been dubbed "Nightmare Stare"

Poor Cotton Candy has seen better days... I want to rehair her with yarn, and add yellow into the color mixture to really make her hair look like cotton candy, though!  I'm really excited to really have a project!!

Honestly, though, it really helped perk up a crummy few days, especially that salon  :)

Off Topic / Any other Cosplayers? Show me your stuff!
« on: July 02, 2013, 09:12:14 AM »
I've been cosplaying for a few years, now, and wondered if anyone else actively did?  I'd love to see everyone else's stuff, too!  Please share, and I'll share mine!  I'd love to hear if there's anything else you have in the works or are planning in the future, as well!
Also, any fun cosplay related stories would be great, too!

------------------------------------------------------------------
I mostly stay in the realm of Western cosplay (as in Western games and, in one case, cartoons).  I'm interested in doing a few J-RPG characters (all male, because I have a great  face for it), but my love of Western games tends to get in the way.

I make 90% of my own costumes.  What I mean is, I buy pieces where I can (like for Princess Bubblegum I just bought a blue fitted tee, pink cardigan and FOUND appropriately colored tutus) and make as much of it as I can.  I like to have a heavy hand in creating pieces because I'm a fan of personal details.  Things that aren't necessarily there or couldn't be seen on the actual character.
However, I've been considering squirreling money to have an original Pink Ranger costume commissioned.  It would be a lot of fun for me, and that's a lot of costuming I can't possibly do myself.

Morrigan - Dragon Age: Origins (though now I'm itching to do a DA: Inqusition one)
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

While wearing (and working at a convention) wearing this costume, I got asked out.  Basically, "if I see you out can I buy you a drink?"  I said yes, simply because my mom didn't recognize me the first time she saw me wearing this.  There was no way some random guy off the street would recognize me out of it.  In fact, he came by our booth a different day and didn't say a word to me when I wasn't wearing it

Anya Stroud - Gears of War 3
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Yes, I made this armor (though I've been accused of not by someone I beat in a costume contest while wearing it) and my gun is a customed NERF gun, not a replica Lancer.  This costume took me many hours over the course of 6 months, and I'm insanely proud of it.

"FemThane Krios" - Mass Effect Series (I'm the one on the right WITHOUT the cool sniper rifle)
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

According to the vest pattern I used to make my jacket, that vest was supposed to be fitted.  I didn't have my dress form (I call her Ruby) at the time, so when I had the first bits sewn together (which didn't take long at all) and tried it on, it fit me like a potato sack!  I then spent, at least, 4 hours taking it in... This is why I HATE and rarely use actual patterns....
Fun side story!  While in the vendor's hall, wearing this, some random guy was staring at the exposed portion of my chest so hard that he almost ran right into me (don't worry, with the amount of fashion tape there, nothing was moving), then when he actually spun out of the way almost ran into my husband.... and yes, I find that completely hilarious!

Princess Bubblegum (Susan Strong Episode) - Adventure Time
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Easiest costume I ever put together.  Even though it involved making a bubbleskirt (with a waistband and zipper) all of which I'd never done before.

Dr. Steinmann-inspired/Victim Splicer - Bioshock
(spoilered for the light-hearted - it's a bit gorey and potentially disturbing)
I really, really love this costume.  I was fun to make and play with different ways to distress and dirty up the slip (and stockings) that I wore.  Though I consider it a Bioshock Splicer, it really borderlines on original character idea, and that made it really fun for me!  I was in a "group" with another friend who had a Splicer costume from a few years ago.  He was the one that got me to play, and love, the Bioshock games, so it was really fun to do a Splicer with him!

In the future?  I mentioned the Pink Ranger.  I've had Merrill (from Dragon Age 2) actually in the works for over a year now.  However, a lot of her details are very time consuming and I tend to not even look at the costume for a few months at a time when I can't take anymore dinking around...
I really want to do an alternate appearance Tali from Mass Effect 3 (with removable mask, appropriate wig, contacts and face paint).  Also, Trance Kuja from Final Fantasy 9.... I actually have some fabric and various pieces purchased so I can start it... but plans on this are really big and going to involve a lot of latex make-up, so it's on the back burner for now.
I actually want to do a few alternate appearance Morrigan (from DA:O) based on some sketches I was playing with.  It would involve lots of pretty flowy fabrics and black feathers!  I love Morrigan so much!

Pony Corral / To re-dye or rehair?
« on: June 28, 2013, 08:27:13 AM »
I was recently reunited with my TAF Up, Up and Away, who is in need of some serious TLC.  The one thing, though, was her hair seemed in pretty good condition but it was white.  I was driving myself crazy, because I swore she'd had pink hair!
I finally was able to confirm, yes, she had pink hair and it has completely faded.  I want to restore it but I'm curious if I'm better off to try re-dying it with Rit dye, or to just rehair her entirely.  I even found the right shade on dollyhair, when I wasn't even looking for it.  I'm a novice to this stuff and haven't done either, but am interested in learning how to rehair ponies.
I won't lie, I am leaning one way, but that just may be because I don't know everything I should
Can I just get opinions and pros & cons of each?

Thank you all, so much, in advance!  :good:

Pony Corral / Detemining Condition
« on: June 21, 2013, 11:29:52 AM »
Hi!  Me again, still trying to get more ponies priced at work  :)

I'm starting to run into a bit of a problem, though.  I've gotten through cleaning the ones that were in rather good condition to begin with, and am starting to get into some more troubled pony condition territory: scratched/fading symbols, body discoloration, mold spots, tail rust, pony cancer, etc....
I've been looking around and wonder if maybe I'm not using the right terminology, but is there a good guide out there for determining what a pony's condition is?  Or some general guidelines that are safe for me to use?
I know pricing is largely subjective, but being able to determine condition on some of these would help me out a lot!

Thank you!

Introductions / So, Hi! I'm new here ^-^

So, as the title says, I'm new here!  I grew up with the G1 ponies, however, my sister and I being typical little children left them in the sandbox one to many times....
I found and fell in love with the G3 line when it started releasing (when I was in high school).  Unfortunately, I didn't have a job while in high school and only was able to get a few (two of which I found at Goodwill for $2!!).  I was, sort of, staying away from G4 (the fandom following it was so large it sort of turned me off) but caught an episode of F.i.M. once and was hooked ever since.  Now I have a Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle and Pinkie Pie with hair I custom styled happily sitting on a shelf in my apartment

I hadn't thought about my old G1's in AGES aside from the fact I knew my sister had given them to her oldest daughter (who is 3 and adores them).  However, a few months ago my boss at work (I work in a game and comic store) bought a HUGE collection of G1 ponies that needed a lot of TLC.  No one else wanted to do it, so the task fell to me.  I started looking around online, in my off time, trying to find ways to get them clean.  Then I found websites about restoration.  Then I found websites about customization.  Then I offered to restore my sister and my old ponies for my niece. Then I found forums.  Then I started poking around having decided I want to try my hand at customization (haven't done it yet, still researching!)
I keep joking with one of my friends (who is also my co-worker) that this rabbit hole keeps going deeper
So, rekindling my love of ponies is actually a new thing to me.  The idea of restoration and customization is very appealing to me because I love crafty stuff (even if it's forever-taking!)

Like I said, outside of ponies I craft, A LOT! I make jewelry, sew, and do prop customization.  I also use all of these skills to cosplay.  I also love to cook and bake!  I love to make Asian food, and bentos, as well as bake and decorate cupcakes!  I play lots and lots of video games and a large variety (Gears of War, to Dragon Age, to Katamari, to Animal Crossing, to Actraiser and Super Metroid!).  I love comics and manga as well!

And I guess that's it!  Way more wordy than I'd intended!
