The Dollhouse / Enchantimals -
« on: August 28, 2017, 01:51:30 PM »
Have you guys seen these?

They are pretty cute- they actually look related to Monster High (like slightly more fantasy focused character).  I wonder if they will be replacing MH?

I like that they have pets-  not sure what size they are but possibly a little shorter than MH?

The outfits are definitely on the cheap/basic side, but maybe you trade that for the fancier pet?

The faces look very similar- I hate to say it but they kinda remind me of MH knockoffs like you'd see on AliExpress?  But I love these lamb and peacock characters...

Actually- I just noticed they don't have elbow or knee joints- they kinda look like Fairytopia characters, don't they?

Off Topic / Dark Crystal PREQUEL
« on: June 05, 2017, 10:04:56 AM »
So Netflix is going to host the Dark Crystal Prequel- as a series!
http://darkcrystal.com/

Quote
Netflix described the show In a press release, saying, "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis' power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world." For those who recall the original film, this statement actually gives us a few more hints about the plot. First, it tells us that we won't be seeing the events that led to the sundering of an ancient group of powerful creatures into the benevolent Mystics and evil Skeksis, since the Skeksis already exist. Second, the presence of a Gelfling team clarifies that The Resistance is set either before or during the Gelfling genocide. The series will probably shed light on why the Skeksis are so obsessed with "essence of Gelfling."

For years I've heard of another Dark Crystal movie in the works- but nothing ever came to fruition. But maybe now that Netflix is funding it will happen.

What makes me apprehensive of course :
* Jim Henson not involved (clarification- although Jim is gone of course- the creature shop IS involved, which is good)
* The original is SO ICONIC. It took 3 years to film.  How could they ever come close? Will it just be difficult to watch?
* the preview says that "the Jim Henson Company, with Louis’ vision, powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects..."  Does this mean they are scaling back the puppetry?
*presenting it as a series worries me...

BUT What makes me hopeful:

* Brian and Toby Froud are involved (but didn't Wendy make the dolls?)
* The Henson creature shop is involved- so they are definitely going to use SOME puppets...
* Netflix DOES have some pretty great original shows... maybe they will throw down for this?

There is a "Trailer" - but it's more annoying than illuminating. It just shows some sparse clips of the making of the original film.  They should NOT be calling it a "trailer" in my opinion as there is NO information at all about the new show.  But I guess they don't have much to preview at this point because from what I've read, they haven't even started filming. So there is nothing yet to "trail".

Some more info:http://deadline.com/2017/05/the-dark-crystal-age-of-resistance-jim-hensons-prequel-series-netflix-1202097238/

I've also seen a LOT of Dark Crystal Merch lately based on the original film characters. (Like through Toywiz). The figures are pretty fun...  I guess they are trying to use the license more which is okay with me I guess.

It's just...please please please please please let the series not be stupid...

I guess I am more excited than anything else- I really hope they do a great job with this, but will watch it no matter what...

Off Topic / NEW Animated JEM and the Holograms movie!!!!!!
« on: May 16, 2017, 03:57:49 PM »
Hey there fellow Jem friends :D

In 2014 Hasbro released info which certainly seems to indicate they were planning a MLP and JEM animated movie and also a live action Jem movie.  http://tformers.com/hasbro-announce-allspark-pictures-division-to-produce-transformers-and-other-brands-during-earnings-call/24991/news.html

Of course we know about the live action Jem movie which was a flop- and we also know Hasbro's Allspark Pictures has in fact  been working on the MLP movie- finally scheduled to release this year.  But it wasn't clear until NOW that they were also working on a Jem animated feature!

Finally- confirmation:

Hopefully they learned their lesson with the live action experiment and the animation is based on the CLASSIC cartoon.

And yes, the Transformers fans were ticked at how they ruined a number of characters in the Transformers movie... and even though the MLP movie animation looks a little odd-  REGARDLESS there will be SOMETHING!  And above all else, Hasbro does not release animations without lots and lots of TOYS/Dolls/Merch in mind!   So WHOOOOO!

Pony Corral / Wow, way more seaponies!
« on: May 11, 2017, 12:33:31 PM »
Maybe we caught a peek of these in Toyfair photos- but MLPMerch has some really nice large photos of them.

https://www.mlpmerch.com/2017/05/more-new-merch-on-amazon-seaponies-and-GOH.html

I love the baby sea ponies and the mini packs, but not sure about the rest. I hope the kids like them as much as we loved the original sea ponies!

So a while ago (maybe a couple of years?) I bought a set of these cute ponies from AliExpress- I gave them to my nieces who LOVE them.

My mom has informed me that one niece has asked her for more of these things for her birthday and was searching everywhere for them, but couldn't find them.  Of course.

I have no idea how I found the listing the first time- I think it was from a link to an AliExpress listing posted by someone here on the Arena?

Does anyone know if AliExpress or Taobao still has these things?  I don't even remember what they were being called...  has anyone seen them lately ?  I'd love to order more for my spoiled little niece...

The Dollhouse / MLP Fashion dolls
« on: September 13, 2016, 10:28:06 AM »
I know there aren't a ton of fashion doll collectors on this board- and these dolls are definitely not for everyone- but just in case there are a few on here- the first two Integrity MLP dolls went up for sale to the public today- and they appear to be going fast.  (Tobias wearing the Rainbow Dash clothe and Jasper wearing the Twilight clothes)

So if you were thinking of getting these, you might want to act soon before they sell out.

Of the edition of 500 each, there are 198 of the Dash doll left, and 232 of Twilight (you can check by adding a huge number to your cart to see how many you can actually buy)

I will admit that I'm surprised the boy/dash clothes Tobias is selling faster than the Twilight girl - he seemed to be one of the least popular in the polls (on the wclub) - but I guess you never know!

The Dollhouse / Did you miss SDCC Shera?
« on: September 09, 2016, 02:14:38 PM »
She is pretty darned epic- with an amazing Castle-looking box- and two extra outfits and lots of extra hands and accessories.

She was preselling for quite the premium before SDCC!   For a little while after SDCC, MattyCollector was selling them (just a limited number per day)

Well if you missed out- they are back!

http://www.mattycollector.com/store/matty/en_US/pd/ThemeID.1298800/productID.5059382100#.V9Mk_pgrLCY

I'm happy because now I don't have to feel guilty about taking mine out of her box.... (although I still can't bear to toss the box, it really is just TOO amazing)

Sorry, can't find the original Rainbow Brite thread!

SO if anyone missed out on the Rainbow Brite IQ "online exclusive" sprite- they now have more and they no longer appear to be exclusive (maybe they changed it a bit)

I figured they'd release another IQ since they did that with the first "online exclusives" - hopefully now everyone can get one if they wanted one :)

The Dollhouse / SDCC Jem only $99!
« on: August 05, 2016, 09:33:14 AM »
So if you have been holding out on getting Twilight in Paris Jem set-  now is a good time as Hasbro is listing what is left of its inventory on ebay for only $99!  (Set was a good deal at $149 and is now a steal)

The set is pretty awesome- comes with a doll-  two different heads to swap out, and two different outfits.  And the box transforms into a pretty cool backdrop.

I guess you can't really see- but the box transforms into this huge tower:

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / SDCC Shera
« on: July 27, 2016, 10:59:31 AM »
So I didn't think I'd be able to get this doll- but Mattel was selling a limited number of them every day for a week, and finally I did get one!  It was not nearly as hard as I had thought.

I had my doubts as the doll was not cheap, and shipping was $11-  but I just got her yesterday and WOW!  The box was ENORMOUS!  The doll is also pretty dang epic.

She is an 11" articulated doll with three complete outfits, extra accessories, extra hands, and the packaging is actually quite amazing!  I am pleased.

I was reading that Mattel is considering making more 11" dolls for the line, and they had Netossa and Catra prototypes at the SDCC.  I sure hope they make these!
