Pony Corral / New EqG special "Sunset's Backstage Pass"
« on: June 20, 2019, 09:18:15 AM »
Anyone want to talk anout it?

Official synopsis:

Spoiler
My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: Sunset’s Backstage Pass
US Premiere: July 27 at 11:30a/10:30c

The Starswirled Music Festival is finally here, and the Mane 7 are going to get their "glamping” on! Sunset and Pinkie are the most excited to see their favorite band perform but when Equestrian Magic causes a “Groundhog Day” inspired time loop to start, Sunset gets stuck reliving "Festival Day 1" forever!

Three Rainbow Rocks characters are coming back.

Spoiler
THE DAZZLINGS (their songs are better)
. I am looking forward to the special just because of them. I love the new song so much.

Hasbro also released a bunch of EqG festival shorts on their MLP FiM youtube channel. They are cute but nothing special (unless you like RariJack )

Pony Corral / " She's All Yak" - FiM S9 Ep7 Discussion
« on: May 12, 2019, 03:04:09 AM »
The ponies are having a traditional school ball called Fetlock Fête and Sandbar asks out Yona to be his "pony pal" (see what they did there?) for this special event.
Yona is very happy about it but worries she won't be able to fit in with the ponies because of her yak-y ways. Rarity offers her help in a very "My Fair Lady" style including a song. The rest of the M6 join her (excluding Twilight), each of them showing Yona a part of the traditions such as preparing a gift basket or dance moves. Yona seems to fail at all of them during the montages but eventually gets it all right for rehearsal and again we get the MFL callback with the ponies exclaiming "I think she's got it!".

At the ball Sandbar is a bit weirded out by Yona's rapid change and the Student Six giggle but Yona seems to get everything right until she stumbles over her dress while dancing (a part she didn't rehearse) and chaos ensues.

Yona runs away and Sandbar finds her in their treehouse moping and vowing to stay there forever. Sandbar admits to her that he never wanted her to change because he likes her the way she is. They return back and all ponies do a dance from the yaks.

Before someone corrects me that the episode was based on "She's All That"... SAT was in itself inspired by "My Fair Lady" ;)
I was pleasantly surprised by the episode because I expected something annoying such as the episode where Pinkie Pie plays that yak instrument. But Yona was just too adorable and we got a song.
The song did not really have great lyrics, imo. But it was kinda hilarious seeing a pony spin on "The Rain In  Spain".
My point of criticism would be that this goshdarn show once again does a culture clash thing with a different species, kind of portraying the non-pony as the less cultured one. But we should be used to that by now.

It was good that Yona realized that just because you are not represented on a poster does not mean you can't take part. Her trying to "morph" into a pony could have been handled way worse. Such as Twilight actually changing her into one (as shown in the song montage when she is a ponyona for a hot second). But they "thankfully" just went for the behaviour bits.

I think the episode has rewatch potential as opposed to the last one where the characters actions just made me cringe a bit. Quibble posing as a sports pony was more annoying to watch than Yona learning the pony ways, imo.

So I really want to sell my Euro Exclusive G4 Star Swirl. She is one of the most expensive G4s I know and I need money for an unpredicted pet explosion

Long story short: I adopted pets I did not mean to adopt just house, but they grew on me and their old owners were keeping them in bad conditions so I bought them out.
So now I need at least a 100 € to balance my monthly funds again, and since I already am on a spring cleaning kick I thought now's the time to part with Star Swirl and some other things (yes I am not crazy, I know that charging 100 for Star Swirl alone would be evil).

My problem? I would like the figure to go to a normal collector, not a G4 hoarder, because I want to cultivate that sense of fandom community beyond the FiM phenomenon. But I also need that money in a few weeks time.
So what do you think is a fair price for Star Swirl NOT judging by Ebay stats?

She is in perfect condition, no flaws, allthough she is NOT new in box. Hair has been brushed.

Alternative: you can send me a PM if you would like to make an offer privately. I am based in Germany, so please consider the shipping and insurance costs.
I don't have the toy with me rn, but next week I will be able to get ahold of it and provide photos for people who are interested.

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Hairdorables PETS

Have you seen these? There are three different equine figures: one is a pony, one a unicorn and one a zebra. Their faces and eye prints look super charming to me. I wish MLP G5 faces would look more like this.

Pony Corral / MOST and LEAST favorite FiM episodes?
« on: March 14, 2019, 12:52:38 PM »
All seasons count.
I'm rewatching FiM again and here are the ones I always skip in season one:
-Feeling Pinkie Keen (Twilight learns that Pinkie has powers that make no scientific sense and she learns she has to just believe... ahem, the atheist in me really hates that one XD)
-Over A Barrel (using real world colonialism to teach sharing)
Both of those were written by the same guy. I guess I don't like his work.

Then I also don't care for
-That 100th episode that is just brony fanfiction
-Simple Ways (this felt like a bitter dude wrote it)
-Horse Play (Celestia is a bad actress... just... who cares?)
-Power Ponies (SDCC tie-in I just don't care for)
-Everything in Appleoosa (I think I just hate Appleoosa and its people after Over A Barrel XD)
-Too Many Pinkie Pies (my worst nightmare)

FiM episodes I love to rewatch: A Bird in the Hoof (still the most hilarious to me), Green Isn't Your Color, Amending Fences, The Mane Attraction, basically all Maud Pie and Luna episodes, A Royal Problem, Make New Friends But Keep Discord, A Canterlot Wedding, Princess Twilight Sparkle (I actually love how she became a princess and the song all princesses sing together), the ones with Thorax because he is adorable, The Road To Friendship and All Bottled Up (so relatable).

I might have missed some I love because the good outweigh the bad for me.

Imagine you are suddenly in charge of MLP via dark magic or a magic lamp and everyone at Hasbro has to do your bidding.

How would you design the next gen of ponies?
Would there be a cartoon show, movies? What types of toys would you create?

Here is the only catch: the genie/witch/wizard does not allow you to just copy your favorite gen

Arts & Crafts Corral / Best way to strip paint off of Breyer horses?
« on: August 09, 2018, 02:16:31 AM »
Aye!
I don't want to register on a Breyer forum just for this one topic so I figured I'll just post it on the Arena as there are some Breyer peeps in here.

Basically, I have a couple of vintage Breyer bodies and scratched models I wish to remake/restore.
For that I want to remove the factory paint. Especially since two of my horses have been cleaned with vinegar by the previous owner and the smell is in the paint now :lookround:
I have searched for days and looked at different methods but so far nothing really worked. Not even soaking for days in bleach.
I do not want to sand them all. That would take forever and kill my wrists.

Any tricks you can share that do not include sanding or bleach?  :)

The Dollhouse / The blind boxed doll trend
« on: July 16, 2018, 04:05:55 AM »
I'm curious. I noticed these are popular right now along with regular blind box figures. I personally like the idea but wish it was easier to get the characters I really want.

It's not like I am a big EqG fan. I only liked Rainbow Rocks and toywise I enjoy the Minis.

But having seen the latest special (the specials have been downgraded to regular episodes and aren't even musicals anymore) I was wondering if they would keep it alive to keep competing in the doll/actionfigure sector. Do you think the G4 characters will live on as Equestria Girls? Or will G5 have its own humanoid parallel universe (please don't) ?

Off Topic / Cartoons!
« on: June 02, 2018, 11:18:40 AM »
Since we had some threads about cartoon reboots I was getting curious what kind of ongoing animated shows y'all are into. You can't hate them all

I'm keeping up with:

Bob's Burgers
Steven Universe
Star vs The Forces Of Evil
Disney's Tangled The Series
MLP FiM (allthough I see myself watching that for completionist sake)

I'm most looking forward to Marvel's new cartoon with Squirrel Girl and the Netflix She-Ra reboot. Oh, and MLP G5 of course.

I wish they would reboot more Disney Afternoon shows. Gargoyles, Gummibears and Darkwing Duck to be precise. I loved those as a kid and would love to see a modern spin on them for a new generation of kids.

The Dollhouse / Lauren Faust redesigned DC Superhero Girls
« on: May 29, 2018, 01:23:44 PM »
https://www.newsarama.com/40038-dc-super-hero-girls-gets-its-own-tv-show.html

I like them but these look very "made for TV" not "made for the dollhouse". While Mattel has created new Barbie bodies I doubt they will make a new body for each DCSHG.
Maybe we'll be seeing action figures?
What do you think?
Personally, I never cared for the old designs that much. I just liked the new body Mattel created for the dolls. I hated their bland samefacedness and uninspired fashions. The new ones have better costumes and are more dynamic for animation but they don't seem very... dolletic.

I rediscovered my love for vintage and new plastic face plush critters. I recently found out about Toy of the Year Fur Babies (Bush Babies in UK and EU).
They have a retro design going on that reminds me of Monchhichi and they have a gimmick that lets you control their ear and eye movements.

I fell in love and ordered one immediatly and now I've been looking at other ones and realized how much nostalgia I have for that particular subset of toys.
There are also artists who create their own and sell them through etsy or ebay. Like fantastic Gremlins replicas or own creations.
I also love the kind of art plush doll with a sculpted face, inset eyes and painted.

There are many crazy talented artists out there who create these.

Do you have any plastic/hard faced plushes or art dolls? Retro, new or custom creation?
Please share them with me!

Pony Corral / Your Top Ten favorite ponies of all time (all gens)
« on: February 01, 2018, 12:40:10 PM »
I made such a list for sh... and giggles a while ago. Including all gens and not counting if the pony is in my collection or not.

Of course the list is ever changing, but right now (in no particular order):

10 - Raincurl (G1) - one of my childhood ponies
9 - Ivy (G2, Pretty Parlour)
8 - Seaspray (G3)
7 - Underwater Art Pony (G3)
6 - Autumn Skye (G3)
5 - Gusty (G1, Euro)
4 - Dewdrop Dazzle (G4)
3 - Sapphire Joy (G4)
2 - Junko Mizuno (G3)
1 - Anchors Away (G3)

Do you see a pattern? I seem to enjoy nautical themed ponies, blue and yellow and plant themed ponies.
