Pony Corral / Princess Hat Ribbon Transplant
« on: July 10, 2016, 06:07:31 PM »
Well, I got the full Princess Pearl set and she look really nice.  However, the ribbons of her hat were kind of dingy.  The hat is in great shape with either new glitter or the original intact.  It's just the ribbon is not in great shape.

Fortunately, I have a Princess Serena hat with a nice clean ribbon.  For transfer later, and Pearl is nice clean ribbons for her hat.  Though, the hat is going to have to sit on the shelf next to her since it doesn't stay on too well.

This is my first time do anything more than a general cleaning to a pony, and I feel pretty good.  Though, I wonder if it's possible to watch a gold-trimmed ribbon.

Pony Corral / I've Hit A Collecting Wall
« on: July 10, 2016, 03:33:37 PM »
I just realized I have just about all the ponies I want.  I guess there are upgrades and find ponies MOC.

I'm not the kind of person who wants EVERYTHING of something.  I completed a Pokedex a grand total of once, and that was during the first generation.  When I play a Pokemon game, I catch Pokemon I like.

Ponies are much the same way.  I collect ponies I like.  And, I have them all.

I thought I might go with themes.  I have considered a "weather" theme to complete.  I have Wind Whistler, Gusty, Sunlight.  So; Firefly, Sprinkles, Parasol, Windy, Powder, Snowflake, the Year 5 flutter ponies from the first five years.  North Star would complete a geography set all by herself.  Then there's astronomy...oh boy.

Still, I think I'm collected out.

Pony Corral / The Princess Ponies' UK Comic Origins
« on: May 05, 2016, 12:37:01 PM »
I was reading on LadyMoondancer's Tumblr that we got a little blurb the Princess Ponies use to live with Prince High and Mighty in the Dismal Desert.  Can anyone provide anymore detail on that?

Pony Corral / Hasbro Annual Report Out
« on: April 11, 2016, 06:35:57 PM »
For you business junkies, here's Hasbro's 2015 Annual Shareholder's Report

http://files.shareholder.com/downloads/HAS/1870646862x0x883653/E95A5C8D-DFAA-4ACB-BB2C-844E50306A01/Annual_Report_for_Web.pdf

A summary for pony: "Four legs good.  Two legs bad."

The pony side of My Little Pony is up in net revenue but Equestria Girls saw a larger fall in net revenue.  I always thought EG was a flash in the pan that would come and go.

Though, MLP is apparently a 1 billion dollar brand is an awesome milestone.

Pony Corral / My Little Pony Year-Round Coloring Book
« on: April 10, 2016, 09:14:17 AM »
We're in the process of cleaning out the basement, and we ran across the 1984 My Little Pony Year Round Coloring Book.  Some of the last pages were colored in, but most of them are untouched.

Farmer Tom is creepy.

Pony Corral / Hasbro Accused of Piracy Over MLP Font
« on: January 25, 2016, 03:26:30 PM »
Apparently one of the fonts used for My Little Pony was not theirs to use.  They've been accused of piracy by Font Brothers Americas who claim "Generation B" is their intellectual property and want their slice of the very fat pony pie.  Hasbro has essentially responded with "See you in court" and this could be a big suit give Friendship is Magic's financial success.

So, a little Hasbro court drama to start the year.

Along with the discussion, posting of Barnacle is allowed.

Pony Corral / Random Fun: D & D Classes For "The Magic Coins" Six
« on: January 24, 2016, 03:57:40 AM »
Watching "The Magic Coins" I thought of how the story could have fit in the Dungeons & Dragons series (not surprising since it was written by Michael Reaves).  That got me thinking.  There were six children in D & D and there were six ponies on the main adventure here.  What would their classes be.

My guesses are:
Wind Whistler - Ranger
Fizzy - Barbarian (because I doubt you could say "Fizzy the Barbarian" and keep a straight face)
Gingerbread - Acrobat
Galaxy - Magician
Magic Star - Thief
Hearth Throb - Cavalier

So yeah, random fun.  Discuss.

Pony Corral / My Little Pony Outdid The Transformers?
« on: January 16, 2016, 01:37:55 PM »
I was on Box Office Mojo looking at random figures.  I ran across this.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=hasbro.htm

My Little Pony the Movie made $100,000+ more than The Transformers Movie in 1986 dollars.  The narrative always seemed to be the MLP movie was the worse performer.   The more you know.

Ironically, this makes My Little Pony the Movie the highest grossing animated film backed by Hasbro.  And the movie likely to overtake is another My Little Pony movie.

Pony Corral / How Old Were You When Your Favorite Pony Was Released
« on: December 28, 2015, 06:13:24 PM »
We have a thread about the favorite pony of your birth year, so let's reverse that a bit here.

You have a favorite pony (or perhaps several).  How old were you when that pony first hit shelves.  For the purposes of this, we are going with the first release globally, and variants/nirvana are considered the same pony (though you can state if you have a favorite version).  Ponies that are name recycles are considered different ponies (like unicorn Twilight and SS pegasus Twilight), just specify.

If you want to list more than one, feel free within reason.

Anyway, have fun.

As for me, I was a grand total of 1 when Wind Whistler came out.  Though, her "Movie Star" version is my favorite and came out a year or two later.

Pony Corral / My First Fakie Sighting
« on: December 27, 2015, 02:49:29 PM »
I was at Tractor Supply getting bird seed when I saw a set of fakies.  They were from something called Princess Club and looked like convincing G3 knockoffs.  Though, they were covered in what looked like felt.

Anyway, I've finally seen fakies in the wild.

Pony Corral / What If MLP 'n Friends Had 65 More Episodes
« on: December 09, 2015, 06:10:38 PM »
Let's say "The Transformers" and "G.I. Joe A Real American Hero" didn't self-destruct in 1986.  Their new seasons were hits, and Hasbro kept the cartoon train rolling.  My Little Pony fills its order as the moderate success it was and Sunbow and Marvel decide to order a second block of 65 episodes.  What would these episodes be?

Basically have fun here.  Would you want to see more development for the Princess and Big Brother Ponies?  What else?

Off Topic / Lauren Faust off Medusa
« on: November 25, 2015, 12:25:05 PM »
http://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film/lauren-faust-no-longer-directing-medusa-sony-pictures-animation-exclusive-122954.html

Sony is infamous for combining gross stupidity and insistent meddling to the ire of many creative minds.  It's easy to imagine the stupid suggestions the executives wanted to shoehorn into Medusa.

However, I have to worry about Lauren Faust.  This is the second time she has left a project because of "creative differences."  These kind of departures tend to create a reputation.  Listening to her speak, I can tell she must be a very difficult person to work with when you disagree with her.  I'm not sure how many more chances she will be given if she quits when things don't go her way.

Pony Corral / How You Pluralize "Pegasus" Explained
« on: September 10, 2015, 09:42:30 AM »
Oh the pegasus ponies, inspired by the winged horse of Greek myth, they have provided a conundrum to pony fans.  How do you pluralize it when talking about more than one?  Well, looking at the methods of pluralizing Greek and Latin words, this is the definitive answer.

The common spelling of Pegasus is actually the Latin spelling.  In Latin, the plural of a word ending in "us" is to replace it with "i".  One pegasus, two pegasi.

However, Pegasus originally appeared in Greek mythology which has different means to make words plural.  It also has a different spelling the winged horse: Pegasos.  It was common for words imported from Greek to Latin to replace "os" with "us" and Pegasos/Pegasus is one of those examples.  Words ending "os" are made plural by replacing just the "s" with "i" while leaving the "o."  One pegasos, two pegasoi.

So, when spelled "pegasus" like Hasbro does, the proper plural is in fact pegasi.

Anyway, have fun.

I'm three chapters into a G1 pony fiction, and I'm looking for people read over to check it for grammar, spelling, sentence structure and/or give feedback on the characterizations, setting, plot, and ideas.  Please post if you are interested.

Pony Corral / Should I Use the U.S. Names of the U.K. Names
« on: August 16, 2015, 08:46:54 AM »
In my writing.

Having read the comics, books, and general information from the U.K., I find myself sitting here with realization the people in the U.K. were much better at naming ponies for the most part.  I prefer the U.K. names of the Princess ponies (and their depiction in general as baby dragons beat bushwoolies every time) over the names given to them in America.  I also prefer U.K. names of the Big Brother/Adventure Boy ponies over their American names.  Even a few individual cases like Sugarberry/Strawberry Fair and Sweet Tooth/Lollipop go to Hasbro U.K. for the superior naming.

I'm building a world that takes some inspiration from the television show as well as the comic and other sources along with my own material.  Wizard Wantall is a comedic foil villain and the Weather Witch is an ally while generations of living on the fringes of the Jewel Desert is what caused Twinkle Eyed ponies to develop jeweled irises.  Even some ponies bring together traits from the two sources like Wind Whistler is both an intellectual and signer and Gusty is a fighter but also desires to be a nurse so she can help others in ways besides violence.

So, should I use the U.K. names or the U.S. names?
