Off Topic / Handmade gifts!
« on: January 02, 2013, 10:00:37 PM »
Another member made a post sharing with us the amazing steampunk jewelry made for a family member because she was "too poor" to go buy stuff. I mentioned I was doing the same and she suggested I post what i was making so here it is!
I crocheted for my sister these boot cuffs and a snowflake earring and necklace set

Customs / My and my sister's first adventure in customizing!
« on: January 02, 2013, 08:52:51 PM »
I started a thread asking to see Mcpony customs a few weeks ago because my sister and I wanted to try our hand customizing some while she was visiting for Christmas. And here they are! We are rather proud of ourselves.
My sister first wanted to do her dream horse a leopard appaloosa. I decided I wanted to do a sleigh horse with harness and bells (maybe i'll add tack later on  >_< ) but ended not getting around to the extra bits and just did a gypsy vanner.

We used very cheap generic acrylic paint and I was unable to get to the craft store for some sealer so they remained a bit "tacky."
Both were the Rainbow Dash with the "henna" my sister decided to keep the head on her's looking more straight ahead than the original pose.
The appaloosa was rehaired with the faded to white parts of the tails to a Razzaroo and a Cotton Candy. My wonderfully talented sister very carefully applied all the spots with a makeup sponge and tiny brush. She wasn't sure she could handle the tediousness of re-hairing but the end result made her happy to have done it.
My gypsy vanner was rehaired using raw wool for the white part and ready to be spun alpaca wool for the black. Makes for a very wild hairstyle. I made my own rehair tool with an embroidery needle and the "prongs" quickly broke off. I ended up making making plugs and punching the hair into the head and gluing it. As long as no one tries to really brush her she'll be fine. And of course this was my first sculpt. Not really any fine detail work but i'm super pleased with her feathers. My sister loved her pink nose  ^.^

This was the BEST quality sister time ever and now we have our ponies to look at and remember the fun!

Customs / Show me McPony customs!
« on: December 11, 2012, 07:10:18 PM »
My sister is coming home for Christmas!  :frolic:
We are three and a half years apart but are so close at times we seem like twins. Her moving to Colorado for school in June this year was the first time we've really been separated and it's been so weird not having each other around. Well I've been really interested in customizing lately and wanted to try. My sister is an amazing painter and I got her interested in doing a custom with me when she is here. We thought doing some McDonalds pony customs and turning them into Christmas ornaments would be an awesome sister craft and create keepsakes to remember for years to come.

I need some inspiration for my first go at pony customization so show me your McDonalds pony customs please! Any generation welcome! (Also lots of advice is welcome too )

Customs / Re-Tailing Sing and Dance Pinkie Pie
« on: December 02, 2012, 06:18:59 PM »
I picked up the big ol Sing and Dance Pinkie Pie at a Thrift store and the poor thing is missing her tail. It's a little sad to see her dance and have the little stub twist and turn with nothing to shake
I'd like to give her a new one but i've no clue what it originally looked like and how I should go about replacing it. I thought maybe someone in customizing might have some experience with her and advice.
Thanks!

Customs / Any blind bag customizing FAQs?
« on: November 19, 2012, 04:02:12 PM »
My time is already consumed by my crocheting so as much as I feel the itch to try customzing ponies I know i don't have the time or money for it. However I thought maybe the little blind bag ponies wouldn't be too time consuming and would be a fun thing to do with my sister who will be home for christmas break. I wanted to do this project because my sister is an excellent painter and i thought between the two of us we could something awesome.
So since i'm new to all this I need some information.

Customs / Found! Thanks all!
« on: October 27, 2012, 01:25:54 PM »
Howdy!
As a gift for my boyfriend i'd like to get a custom done of the "ponysona" i created for him.

I've waded through the commission artists list and i'm just not sure who to pick and who is willing to take on this project.
Possible issues?
I know my boyfriend would prefer either a 1st or 3rd gen pony which means there will be sculpting involved as his pony is a unicorn with the feathered hooves.
Also his "cutie mark" involves a particular famous green leaf of the illegal variety so if you have a problem with something like that you are warned
His mane is a pretty tall mohawk style and i know getting hair to keep that shape may be difficult

You can take a look here http://smg.beta.photobucket.com/user/horsecrzy387/media/CookiePony.jpg.html

So I'm looking for some willing customizers to take this project on and give me some quotes.

Thanks so much for looking!

Pony Brag Arena / BF got me a My Pretty Pony
« on: October 15, 2012, 10:19:08 AM »
I have the sweetest boyfriend! Yesterday he was at an antique fair and he spotted the pinkish My Pretty Pony with the hearts on her but. I've trained him pretty well for spotting the real MLPs. But since this wasn't technically a My Little Pony and it didn't have Hasbro stamped on it he was a little thrown off. He remembered me mentioning these giant ponies that were the precursors to the MLP line so he decided to take a chance on it. Lady wanted $22 but he talked her down to $10 which was good because she is hardly minty condition. She is pretty sun-faded and the lever under her chin is rattling around inside her body. Her hair is in really great shape though. I'm just so pleased to be a My Pretty Pony owner and of course couldn't love my boyfriend more. True Love = learning to spot MLP's in full support of my addiction.  :lovey:

Anyone know if these can be repaired?

Info for swap extras
I'm on the lookout for the accessories (except the diaper/panties) for G1 Soft Sleepy Newborn Sweet Dreams
Love pony accessories Hasbro or handmade
Love random pony merch from stickers to stationary to coloring books and puzzles to even flyers and etc.
Do you make stuff? Throw it in I love handmade doo dads
My most time consuming hobby is crochet I can make blankets, beanies, and scarves, and little delicate flowers, hair accessories, and earrings. I love unusual and colorful yarns and i collect vintage pattern books.
I collect keychains. I have a few from around the world and several states and a few themeparks. I love keychains that are representative of the area (city, state, country) like my favorite keychain is from Idaho and it's shaped like a potato  XD humorous stuff like that is great, or something scenic, I love "spinners" keychains with some sort of moving part that i can fiddle with
Favorite color is purple! I love the color combo of a bright green and purple like G3 Coconut Grove. I also like pink and the color combo of pink and brown.
Favorite flowers are tulips, dafodils, and iris
Other likes:
Snowflakes
Shiny sparkly doodads (like a crow haha)
feathers
Birds ( I have a beautiful grey cockatiel named Mr. Feathers)
horses (favorite colorations are buckskin, and dapple grey, love the breeds with feathers on their feet)
dolphins (spotted dolphins in particular)
Favorite specific candies are Junior Mints, and Sour Skittles (with the lime), love gummy bears and sour gummy worms, I like chocolate but prefer dark chocolate, i like chocolate with mint or caramel but no fruit or creamy stuff. I like different sour candies. I do NOT like cinnamon flavors, watermelon (or any melon), pineapple, or banana.
When it comes to scented items I love a fresh rose smell, but not much else "flowery" I tend to gravitate to fresh citrus type scents. Cannot stand any sort of melon. Melons and i just don't get along.

I'm just so pleased I can hardly stand it. Never had I imagined having such luck.

Baby Sweet Dreams came to me in an auction grab bag with a bunch of filthy G3s. Her body seems to be in minty condition though a bit dirty (hasn't been bathed yet) There is a stain on her "diaper" on one side but they are otherwise unharmed. I have not unbraideded her hair but it seems to be all there and there is not the least bit sign of frizz. She is amazing! My mother thought she looked like a pig lol. I don't care I'm in love with my new baby.
If anyone happens to have her accessories and are willing to sell let me know  ;)

I found Moondancer (with her brush) at a thrift store. I spotted her from aisles away perched on top of the children's clothes rack. I made a beeline over and while I wan't positive she was authentic MLP (her tag had been cut off) I couldn't leave her behind. Once again I amazed at her beautiful condition. She isn't filthy and her hair brushed out smooth. Her horn tends to lean to one side but that's not a problem.

I just can't believe I picked up these treasures from second hand stores and they are so perfect! I haven't seen anyone talking about the giant newborns lately so i don't even know how common they are. If anyone knows let me know how much they may be worth just for curiosity's sake.

Pony Corral / Would like opinions for FIM inspired hair bow
« on: June 14, 2012, 06:29:33 PM »
I love crochet and I've gotten into crocheting hair accessories; headbands, bows, and bobby pins. My boyfriend thinks I need to make some hair bows based on the mane 6. I'm really into that idea and am already buying up the yarn colors I need and designing the bows in my head.

What I would like from you all is your thoughts on the type of bow that could represent Rainbow Dash. She of course isn't as "girly" as the others and really isn't inclined to be a ribbon wearer herself. So how should I make a so-called "girly" accessory inspired by her?

I won't be using any images of the ponies, and debating on including symbols. These hair bows will only reflect the colors and style of each pony.
Here are examples of hair bows i've made previously

Off Topic / Random doll brushes/combs need ID
« on: May 28, 2012, 01:14:41 PM »
I got this grab bag of doll brushes at a thrift store because I saw some pony combs. I've sorted out everything I can be positive of being either MLP or Barbie. There are a lot of interesting left overs that I was wondering if anyone can identify who they belong too. Particularly the "bronze" eagle comb. I have a suspicion that the tiny orange barretes and picks are G2.
BTW if anyone wants these let me know, i'll either re-donate them or toss them they have been re-homed thanks!

Arts & Crafts Corral / Made my own Dream Castle!
« on: May 16, 2012, 07:46:16 PM »
So I've had this longing for a Dream Castle in the back of my mind for awhile. I was denied one second hand from some cousins when I was little. Well this semester I decided to take a fun class and enrolled in ceramics where I spent half the semester creating this thing!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

In the end due to severe class time limitations I had to leave out doing the drawbridge door and little rose medallions. I also was unable to shape the turrets proper as I was literally slapping them on in the last 20 mins of class before the firing deadline  >_<  I did leave little holes in case I can make some flags!

Once again running out of time and lack of proper reference pics I forgot the window in the back tower

Painting was hasty as well and a bit splotchy in spots but the colors came out super close to the originals and i'm really pleased! I was really hating on it at first because it wasn't a "perfect" replica but for the limited time i had and having not seen one of these in person since i was maybe 7 I think I did well. I probably should have tried to go smaller

And here are some reps from the different generations to give you all a size idea

A big project that I hated at first but now have grown to love as my own unique pony art!

Pony Corral / What to do with broken Lily Lightly and similar?
« on: May 16, 2012, 06:14:23 PM »
I have had this terrible habit lately of buying big auction lots of ponies specifically for certain ponies I can make out among the tangle. In the process I've picked up plenty of decent G3.5s (which i don't collect) McD's toys and multiples of G3s. I've started a sales/trade list.

However I now own an extra Lily Lightly and Heartbright that are both broken. Nothing happens when you press the button on Lily and her eyes like to stay closed not to mention the terrible state of her dress. The mechanism to move the wings on Heartbright no longer works. I could never just toss these girls because their fancy doo-dad mechanisms are broken but I have a box of ponies I need to move and I can't be a rescue operation.

So any suggestions?

Also share stories of similar experiences! Those poor headed for the glue factory ponies we can't ignore!

Pony Brag Arena / My first G1 auction win
« on: May 10, 2012, 06:14:39 PM »
Just won these gals and am very happy. I don't actually have very many G1s though I love them so and I got some really neat ponies! Not the best picture sorry..

Masquerade was a filthy mess and smelled of mold and smoke. I started soaking her then realized she had tail rust so i carefully took of her head to find her tail washer had rusted, broke to pieces, and covered her entire insides in rust! I took the pic after scrubbing her outside but i hadn't got to the inside mess just investigated it.

Heart Throb
Twilight
Pina Colada - had to shove a comb between her back legs so she would stay standing
Scoops - teensy bit of tail rust
Applejack - super nice condition
Sweet Notes- hair cut  :(
Lovin' Kisses - her lips have some wear but lipstick still appears!
Baby Jangles - has some mold along her hairline and a cancer spot on cheek but otherwise really great

overall i'm pretty amazed these guys are mine now, just have to finish cleaning them up and repair Masquerade's rust situation
