MLP Nirvana / PC Mexican Cherries Jubilee & Italian Pinwheel
« on: August 26, 2016, 01:30:07 PM »
I don't want to pull them out for detailed photos if their value isn't great, but I do have these old photos from when I got them.

Cherries Jubilee seems pretty fine. Her hair's a little wild (but that might be some original curl in her tail), she has some light issues/marks, and she has light head-body mismatch. Her DS ear has some scrapes and her NDS ear has the worst of the marks.

Pinwheel is a little worse for wear. Her DS eye has some scrapes, tail is cut, hair's quite frizzy, and a child colored horseshoes on her hooves.

Pony Corral / How important are displays to you?
« on: August 14, 2016, 12:03:12 PM »
Are you only in it for the pretty ponies or do you live to create beautiful displays of your hard earned collection? Would you rather buy a gorgeous Rapunzel or a drool-worthy glass cabinet? Is set up an afterthought or is every pony's place perfectly planned? Do you keep ponies safely tucked away in storage or would having them cooped up out of sight drive you batty?

Not actual questions of course, unless you really want to answer them :P

When I got into collecting displays didn't really matter to me. I did the best I could with what I had but it quickly became obvious that dust was too much of an issue. The poor ponies (and other collections) were mostly tucked away in drawers to keep them safe.

Now that I've gotten some more mismatched display cabinets and am knee-deep in pony cleaning I've been thinking a lot about displays. It will take many (many) years to get where I want to be with my displays, and I'm okay with that, but I'm no longer okay with the messy displays of the past. I'm hoping to tear everything down, clean everyone up, and start over with much more cohesive and organized displays. I'd say displaying is probably as important as the actual ponies (and some of my other collections) now. I want to collect glass display cases next xD

Pony Corral / Pony cleaning: marks, glue, and weirdness!
« on: August 11, 2016, 08:29:02 AM »
Since I'm going through and deep cleaning basically my entire collection I'm running into some weirdness I'd like to get sorted out. However I don't really need to make 50 new threads so I figured one big mega thread would be for the best!

1. Can anything be done about symbol rust? I don't care about repair so much as preventing it from getting worse or spreading rust to other parts of the pony.

3. Starshine again. I feel like this deserves its own number. His head was practically completed bonded to the body and so hard to remove. I had to pull out a knife and it still was basically just ripping the plastic in half (along the original separations, no torn body/head thank goodness). He somehow has sticky glue inside his head? What is this? His mane is a MESS inside his head, every color is wild and crazy. Its all sticky and left a nasty residue on my fingers. No other part of him is like this (aside from the neck "peg" area) and his body is hard.

5. Are zip ties still the recommended replacement for metal tail clamps? I worry about the plastics interacting badly but I also don't want to tempt fate by leaving starting-to-rust clamps on.

6. Poor Skyflier arrived with an almost entirely torn off horn. What would be the best way to handle this to preserve the horn? Push epoxy sculpt up into the hole to secure her horn down?

7. Mommy Sweet Celebration's back looks like its sunken in a little. Looking at photos online I can't tell if the pose is just super weird or she needs a visit to the chiropractor. If she is misshapen, how would you fix this? Get her body all squishy with heat and stuff her with a washcloth?

8. When putting tails back in without removing the metal clasp, how do you get them to be straight? I popped Lemon Drop's tail back in today and its horribly uneven. Its curling so hopefully the difference will be hidden but I'm really not a fan of how it looks.

Pony Corral / Braid spray and MLP hair?
« on: August 05, 2016, 09:23:27 PM »
Has anyone ever tried braid spray on ponies? Its a product for textured human hair and its recommended to keep American Girl hair in order. It might possibly help with messy but not too messy curls? I somehow managed to lose my bottle without even opening it after having it for like a month so I don't know if I can give it a shot myself.

That's one of the more ridiculous thread titles I've typed, but I really don't know how else to describe these.

I'm trying to figure out a name, advertisement, bulk lot, really just anything for this line of quarter machine toys. I found them at a small gas station in Utah five years ago and they've been there ever since. A friend also found them once in Michigan some time ago, but not as far back. They're small, monochrome figures that come in bright colors with simple faces. I think they stayed towards cool colors, things like blue/pink/purple but its been so long since we last drove through (and I don't know if there are multiple waves/varieties/assortments). The leaves on those with them are removable. They come in the smaller 25c containers so they're pretty tiny.

These are the best photos I have. I didn't want to put them directly on the paper because they're a soft plastic that's just slightly sticky, enough to attract dust/dirt/etc. I don't have the whole set.

Pony Corral / How to keep factory curl?
« on: August 04, 2016, 11:10:34 PM »
Its time for a massive deep cleaning of my herd and I have quite a few ponies with atrocious hair. I got them too early into my collecting days to know what to do for them (or to be comfortable trying after some very bad advice). Most of it is pretty straight forward but I have a couple ponies with horrific hair hiding lovely factory curls. I don't want to lose them but I'm not sure how to go about keep them and still getting the hair under control.

The Dollhouse / Replacing rubber band on 50s doll arms?
« on: July 30, 2016, 05:19:11 PM »
Today was photoshoot day for my more fragile Madame Alexander Alexander-kin and, well, there were some casualties.

I call this photo "50 year old rubber bands don't last forever"

We couldn't peg down an exact identity for her, but I have  more detailed photos of her here in her original clothing. She's a lot lighter and feels a bit cheaper than the brunette Alexander-kin. The brunette has a significant weight to her (compared to her size) and feels expensive. In case any of that helps at all. I also took this to show her hooks a little better.
Edit: After looking at her legs and what I can see inside her torso, I think she may be a walker.

Can this kind of fix be done safely at home? I'm sure any rubberband would "work", but she's a very important family heirloom so I don't want to risk anything. She's in really good shape, aside from the face yellowing and her loose joints. Should I just find a doll hospital when I can? Does anyone have any suggestions for a trustworthy one? At most I'd want her arms fixed, general restringing, basic cleaning, and maybe some de-yellowing on the face if that's possible without touching the paint at all.

Off Topic / Instagram
« on: July 25, 2016, 05:10:58 PM »
I finally got out of the dark ages and made myself an Instagram. On the computer, of course :P I can only get so up to date at once, haha!

I'd love to find some pony people to follow! Searching for MLP on Instagram went... very poorly... so I think my best bet is here! I don't mind if you post other dolls/toys/action figures/similar stuff. The more toys the merrier!

Trader & Shipping Support / eBay: Shipping discrepancies
« on: July 19, 2016, 03:13:24 PM »
While signed out I found an item I'm interested in and added it to my cart. On the item's page it shows $35 + 15 shipping but in the cart shipping was listed as free. This didn't change over many days and viewings of the cart. Everything else I added/removed showed up with their listed shipping prices normally. After signing in the cart is now saying the shipping is $15.

I obviously don't mind paying the real shipping but I'm a little confused. What could cause a discrepancy like this on a single item between being signed in and signed out?

The Dollhouse / Tips for moving with dolls?
« on: April 19, 2016, 02:37:25 PM »
I found out recently that we're going to be moving very very soon. We're staying in the same city and the place we're interested in right now is like, 5-10m away at the absolute max. It would be a big waste of money (and time, during and after >.>) to pack everything up tight, especially with dolls who'd need all their hair redone after the horrendous 5min journey. My vintage girls will be held individually but there's no way we'll make enough trips for that to work with everyone.

I have a LOT of typical 12in playline size, like Monster High and Liv, but I also have a bunch of other weirder sizes too, like Pullips, Cutie Pops, Lalaloopsy, Moxie Teenz, and some 16-18in dolls of various types. I either have like, 20 or 1 from a specific line so that makes it a little harder too because of all the variety. I want to do the least damage to their hair possible, because I don't have the time/energy/desire to redo the hair of... way more dolls than I want to admit to owning, lol.

Bonus points if the solution works for ponies too! I just did all my G3s hair a few months back and I do NOT want to go through that again x.x

The Dollhouse / American Girl
« on: April 18, 2016, 07:16:24 AM »
I know we have at least a couple AG collectors, is anyone else interested in a megathread? I've gotten suuuuper into AG this month and I've been dying to get into a community but AG seems really weird! The doll focused forum is closed for signups (which is only mentioned after signing up...) and the political forum doesn't seem to be very active with doll discussions I'm interested in.

I'll probably make an Instagram (even though the community seems to be mostly 9-14 year old kids I'll need to avoid, lol) and maybe a blog... but I'd love to just fawn over AG stuff with other collectors or fans!

The Dollhouse / Barbie's new bodies

I came across this article earlier. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure how I feel about Curvy yet. I don't think the clothing choice shows it off great, especially since the skirt looks like it isn't ironed. Being super short I'm very excited about Petite! I hope they make a redhead with freckles. Tall is pretty cool too but I want to see her compared to a normal Barbie body first.

I really really hope they make articulated versions. Kids are so used to well jointed dolls these days I'm worried they'll fail if they don't. (Plus it would be super awesome to have a poseable diverse cast.) Its a bit early to worry about that though :P

Edit: Dolls and fashion packs are on Mattel's site.

I'm trying to place an order on sunnydaycrafts.com, which I've used multiple times before. I haven't had any issues and I've never had trouble with Paypal not allowing me to use multiple payment methods. But all good things must end I guess because Paypal won't let me this time.

I got a $30 Visa gift card for Christmas (despite requesting cash to avoid this type of situation :/) and added it to Paypal. I have a coupon for SDC that expires on the 1st for $10 off a $35 or more order. I have the rest of the money in the bank account. Both are attached to Paypal.

I went to check out and changed the payment method to the Visa card. After a few moments of "processing" this pops up:
"This transaction couldn't be completed. Please redirect your customer to PayPal."
http://i.imgur.com/MyyBfrF.png

Its pretty obviously caused by the gift card not having enough money to pay for the entire order, but why isn't Paypal pulling the rest from the bank account? There's no way I'll be able to get an extra $30 cash before the 1st and trying to find someone to trade the gift card to for less than $30 obviously isn't an option either since I need the entire $30. I'm messaging SDC on FB and emailing them but I don't know how quickly they reply to those, especially with the holidays.

The Dollhouse / OOAK Teddy Bear doll [pic heavy]
« on: December 26, 2015, 02:21:28 AM »
I love this doll so much I've just gotta share it!

I participated in a real life Secret Santa for the first time this year. Because I planned to make all my SS gifts I had a little bit of trouble deciding on things to do, since forms & wishlists for it are geared more towards buying something. My partner mentioned they used to collect teddy bears and wish they still had the space for it. That really stuck with me and I just so happened to have a brand new block of fresh brown clay so Teddy was born!

I haven't made a teddy bear in around 7-8 years and it was even more chibi and unrealistic so he's not perfect, but I'm super happy with him anyways. You can see some imperfections because I was a bit rushed. Next time I make a bear the eyes will be thinner, the arms will be attached to the body higher, and the legs will actually be even in how they're attached to the body.

He's made of polymer clay, Premo for the brown parts and Sculpey Souffle for the black & pink. I forgot to measure him but he's pretty big as far as my dolls go!

Trader & Shipping Support / Undeliverable as addressed
« on: November 21, 2015, 06:56:31 PM »
Can anyone tell me what exactly this means? It was first delivered to the wrong address and now this is what its saying. The city and zip are not the other party's.

"Your item was undeliverable as addressed at 3:50 pm on November 21, 2015 in [city, state, zip]. It is being returned if appropriate information is available."

The address was completely taped over so unless someone ripped the tape off the bubble mailer or crossed it out its fine and couldn't have been damaged. I bought the postage via the machine and when I looked up the address to add insurance it was 100% fine and came up as it was written. And if the label was messed with would I even get it back? Would insurance cover it? If it was an error on the post office's part would I have to pay to ship it again even though the address is correct (assuming the label wasn't messed with)?

If its fine I cannot afford another $7 to ship it, or the $25ish the doll is worth. :/ It was for a trade. I asked the person to call their post office and see if they can get any information. I've never had anything like this happen before and I'm just at a loss.
