Trader & Shipping Support / Ebay's new seller restrictions?
« on: November 09, 2015, 03:09:25 PM »
My Ebay account was restricted from selling a few years back due to "poor seller performance"; I had one buyer that was a bit of a buttmunch, and since I was only selling a handful of items a year my star rating dipped below what Ebay deems acceptable.

I've been thinking about starting a new account so I can sell again. But before I go for it, I'd like to know more about the limitations they place on new sellers. Has anyone here recently started selling on Ebay that can share their experiences?

Pony Corral / Any advice on collecting SquishyPops?
« on: October 20, 2015, 02:19:16 PM »
Okay... These SquishyPops have puzzled my head.  :dizzy:

My Walmart just got them in. They're in a tall, thin "dispenser" type display box with a pop-out at the bottom where some of the balls collect. I've bought nine so far, and have ended up with six Sweetie Belles and three Apple Blooms.

Is there any sort of... strategy(?) to the way they're put into the display boxes? I honestly love these little buggers, and want to get more... But at the same time I don't really need an army of tiny Sweetie Belles. XD

My theory, based on the ones I've gotten, is that the display boxes are filled in layers; the first two times I got some, I just picked three out of the "bowl" and both times, all three balls contained Sweetie Belle. Last night, I dug up into the "body" of the box a bit more, and ended up with three Apple Blooms.

So... Any advice on collecting them without getting quite so many duplicates?

Price Check Archives / PC: Funko Mystery Mini Discord?
« on: October 14, 2015, 03:19:29 PM »
I finally gave in to my curiousity about the Funko Mystery Minis and bought one. And of COURSE I get Discord, the only one out of the whole set that I have absolutely zero interest in. XD

I'm going to add him to my sales thread, but I'm not sure what a fair price would be. Mine is the full color version. If they have any effect on his value, I do have the box and black baggie he came in, though both are pretty tattered from opening him.

Trader & Shipping Support / Weird email; eBay Buy It Now lawsuit?

I got this in my email this morning. Spoiler'd for length:

Class Member ID: 30836B15DM18Q

NOTICE OF CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT
You are not being sued. This notice affects your rights. Please read it carefully
To:
All eBay sellers in the United States who paid Listing Fees to place a "Buy It Now" Listing on eBay’s websites during the period from July 30, 2008 to September 10, 2015, whose item was subsequently delisted when the "Buy It Now" button was selected by a prospective buyer prior to the end of the scheduled listing duration, who were not ultimately paid by the prospective buyer for the listed item, and whose Listing Fees were not refunded by eBay ("Class Members").

On September 10, 2015, the Honorable Edward J. Davila of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California granted preliminary approval of this class action settlement and ordered the litigants to provide this notice about the settlement. You have received this notice because eBay's records indicate that you may be a Class Member, and may be eligible to receive a payment from the settlement. Please visit www.ebaybuyitnowclassaction.com for more information. The Final Approval Hearing on the adequacy, reasonableness, and fairness of the Settlement will be held at 9:00 a.m. on February 25, 2016 in Courtroom 4 of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California located at 280 South 1st Street, San Jose, CA 95113. You are not required to attend the Final Approval Hearing, but you are welcome to do so.
SUMMARY OF THE LITIGATION

Plaintiff Luis Rosado brought this putative class action against eBay on July 30, 2012. This case involves certain specific aspects of the "Buy it Now" feature, which allows prospective buyers to purchase an item listed for sale on eBay at a fixed price before the end of the designated listing period (e.g., 3, 5, 7, 10, or 30 days). The "Buy It Now" option can be used with an auction-style listing or on its own. During the relevant time periods, when a prospective buyer clicked the "Buy It Now" button in a listing to initiate a purchase, eBay automatically delisted the item. However, the buyer would still need to complete the payment process. If the buyer failed to do so, eBay did not automatically relist the item for the remaining duration of the listing period. Plaintiff alleges that in such circumstances, eBay deprived sellers of the full value of their listing and seeks to recover a portion of the fees that sellers paid for the disputed listings. Based on the foregoing allegations, the Second Amended Complaint asserts six causes of action against eBay: (i) violation of California’s False Advertising Law; (ii) violation of the Consumer Legal Remedies Act; (iii) breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing; (iv) violation of the Unfair Competition Law; (v) breach of quasi-contract; and (vi) declaratory judgment.
After an information exchange, the parties conducted a private mediation with the guidance of the Honorable Carl J. West (Ret.) of JAMS, an experienced class action mediator, and were able to negotiate a settlement of Plaintiff’s claims.
Counsel for Plaintiff, and the attorneys appointed by the Court to represent the class, Capstone Law APC ("Class Counsel"), have investigated and researched the facts, circumstances, and applicable law related to this case. While Class Counsel believe that the claims alleged have merit, Class Counsel believe that the risk and expense of continued litigation justify the settlement. Based on the foregoing, Class Counsel believe the proposed settlement is fair, adequate, reasonable, and in the best interests of the Class Members.
eBay has denied, and continues to deny, the factual and legal allegations in the case and believes that it has valid defenses to Plaintiff's claims. By agreeing to settle, eBay is not admitting liability on any of the factual allegations or claims in the case or admitting that the case can or should proceed as a class action. eBay has agreed to settle the case as part of a compromise with Plaintiff and in order to avoid the expense and distraction of continued litigation. The Court has not ruled on the merits of Plaintiff's claims or eBay's defenses.
SUMMARY OF SETTLEMENT TERMS
Settlement Fund: Under the Settlement, eBay will pay $1.2 million (the "Gross Settlement Fund"), which will be used to fund: (1) class member settlement payments; (2) attorneys' fees not to exceed 25% of the Gross Settlement Fund and reasonable litigation costs and expenses; (3) a $2,500 incentive award to Plaintiff for his services on behalf of the settlement class and for a general release of all claims he may have against eBay; and (4) the settlement administrator's fees and costs. No portion of the Gross Settlement Fund can be returned to eBay.
Amount of Payments: Class Members who submit a Claim1 (see below) for a Non-Vehicle Listing will receive $5, and Class Members who submit a Claim for a Vehicle Listing will receive $10. Each Class Member can submit only one claim for a Non-Vehicle Listing and one Claim for a Vehicle Listing. The maximum payment to any single class member will generally be $15. If, however, the aggregate payment to Class Members is less than 25% of the Net Settlement Fund (the “Minimum Payout Fund”), then participating class members will receive checks for a pro-rata share of the Minimum Payout Fund.2
Method of Payment: The payments above for Class members who submit Claims will be made by check. Any funds remaining in the Net Settlement Fund (including funds from uncashed checks that revert to the Net Settlement Fund) will be redistributed as follows:
First, all Claimants who have an Active eBay Account at the time of distribution will receive an equal pro-rata share of the unclaimed amount, capped at $50 per class member, to be distributed by eBay in the form of a Credit.
Second, if additional funds remain after this further disbursement of Credits, the remaining funds will be distributed in the form of additional Credits, on a pro-rata basis, to all members of the Notice Group (including class members and non-class members) who have an Active Account at the time of the final disbursement. These Credits, if any, will be aggregated as to each recipient and issued in a single disbursement.
YOUR OPTIONS UNDER THE SETTLEMENT
Option 1 – Submit a Claim Form to Be Eligible for a Cash Payment
If you want to receive a cash payment from the settlement, you must submit a Claim Form. You need to complete the Claim Form no later than December 8, 2015. If you do not wish to participate in the settlement, you may exclude yourself from the settlement class. All written objections and supporting papers must (a) clearly identify the case name and number (Luis Rosado v. eBay Inc., Case No. 5:12-CV-04005 EJD), (b) be submitted to the Court either by mailing them to the Class Action Clerk, United States District Court for the Northern District of California at 280 South 1st Street, San Jose, CA 95113, or by filing them in person at any location of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, and (c) be filed or postmarked on or before December 8, 2015.

You may also appear at the Final Approval Hearing, either in person or through your own attorney. If you appear through your own attorney, you are responsible for paying that attorney. The Final Approval Hearing is currently set for February 25, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California at 280 South 1st Street, San Jose, CA 95113 in Courtroom 4. The Final Approval Hearing may be adjourned or continued without further notice to Class Members.

Rosado v. eBay Settlement, c/o Heffler Claims Group, P.O. Box 710, Philadelphia, PA 19105-0710

1 Capitalized terms have the meanings set forth in the Settlement Agreement available at www.ebaybuyitnowclassaction.com
2 If the number of Claims timely received would cause the total amount of awards, as calculated above, to exceed the anticipated Net Settlement Fund, the amount awarded per Claim shall be adjusted on a pro-rata basis such that the total awards made in connection with all Claims is equal to the amount of the anticipated Net Settlement Fund. This calculation will be made as follows: (1) For purposes of the calculation, a Claim involving a Vehicle Listing will be deemed two "claim units" and a Claim involving a Non-Vehicle listing will be deemed one “claim unit,” (2) the anticipated Net Settlement Fund will be divided by the total number of “claim units” to determine the amount per claim unit, (3) the amount as determined in (2) will be awarded for each Claim involving a Non-Vehicle listing, and (4) the amount as determined in (2), multiplied by two, will be awarded for each Claim involving a Vehicle listing.

Supposedly there's some kind of a lawsuit against eBay for not refunding listing fees in the even your BIN item was bought by a non-paying bidder? I don't see anything in my eBay messages regarding it and don't recall ever hearing anything about it, though, so I'm suspicious.

Has anyone else gotten one of these emails/heard anything about this supposed lawsuit?

Price Check Archives / PC: MIB G4 Wedding Singles?
« on: October 03, 2015, 01:47:01 PM »
What are the wedding singles going for these days MIB?

I came across Lyra, Sunny Rays, and Cherry Berry at Big Lots today. I didn't pick them up, because I was there for Monster High dolls and didn't have enough for the ponies too, but I'm wondering if they'd be worth picking up for resale. They were $5 each.

The Dollhouse / Interest Check: Bratz Shoes?
« on: September 24, 2015, 07:18:48 PM »
I pick up Bratz clothes lots whenever I find them, because their stuff is a good fit for my Monster High dolls. And with the lots usually come many, many shoes that I have no use for. XD Since Bratz look to be making a comeback I figured I'd see if anyone here had any interest in them.

I don't have pictures at the moment because the shoes aren't sorted, but if there's interest I'll get pics ASAP. ^_^

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Info/PC on a Breyer bull?
« on: September 12, 2015, 12:43:43 PM »
I wasn't sure if this went on the Toy Box board or not; I apologize if I misplaced it.

Anyway, I found this guy at a yard sale this morning:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

He seems to be a Breyer model... He's not actually marked Breyer (at least, I don't see a mark), but I believe I read when trying to ID a previous find that some of the early models weren't marked; is that right?

At any rate, going on the assumption that he is Breyer, I Googled a Breyer site and I'm 99.9% sure I ID'd him; the mold looks to be the Walking Black Angus Bull, and going by the color descriptions on that page I believe he's model #73, Hornless Hereford.

I looked up that model on eBay to try and verify, as the ID site didn't have a picture, and the only one I could find that seems to match mine was this one, which apparently sold for $325?!

I know there's at east a few Breyer collectors here, so I was hoping some of you guys could take a look and tell me if my ID is right and what he might realistically go for?

Off Topic / Computer advice?
« on: August 18, 2015, 08:58:36 AM »
I accidentally spilled water on my laptop the other day, and I can't get it to turn back on.

I've pretty much resolved myself to the idea that it's beyond saving and that I need a new one (which I don't mind at all! XD), but before I totally give up on this one, I thought I'd try posting here to see if anyone had any advice. I'm going to cross-post this on a couple of other forums, too; can't hurt to have opinions from multiple places, right?

Here's what happened:

I spilled about a cup, maybe a cup and half, of water on my desk. Most of the water went UNDER everything on the desk, but some (I'd guesstimate a tablespoon or so) did get on the keyboard area of the laptop.

I'm clumsy and no stranger to having spilled things on my computer, so I did what I always do; I sopped the water up with paper towels and turned the laptop on its' side so any water that got in through the keyboard could get out. I left it that way for about ten minutes.

It stayed on the whole time, but when I put it back in its' normal position it seemed to be locked up, so I turned it off.

And it never came back on. :(

I thought maybe it had overheated, so I unplugged everything and let the power block cool down for a couple of hours. Nothing.

I've unplugged it and let it sit a few times now since it went down, and when I plug it back in one of three things happens. Either:

A) The AC Power and Disk Drive lights come on solid green and it sounds like it's trying to run a disk or something. It won't boot up, but the disk drive will open if I push the button.

B) The AC light comes on yellow and blinks.

C) A combination of A and B; the Disk and AC lights come on solid green, it sounds like it's trying to do something, but after a second or two the disk light goes out and the AC light turns yellow and starts blinking.

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite. I have no idea how old it is, as I got it used, but the model number is A25-S307.

Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated!

Price Check Archives / PC: G1 Lite-Brite Picture Refill?
« on: August 14, 2015, 12:50:23 PM »
I picked up a G1 Lite-Brite picture refill pack at Salvation Army today, and I was wondering if I could get a PC on it before I add it to my sales thread. ^_^

It's missing two pictures, and a few of the pictures have been punched out but are still intact enough to use again. The package isn't in the best shape either; there's some water stains on the front, and the back flap has quite a bit of wear to it.

Off Topic / Interest Check: Various Toys/Books
« on: July 29, 2015, 01:16:44 PM »
I'm working on sorting stuff out for a yard sale, and before I put things out I wanted to check if there was any collector interest in any of it.

I'll be adding to this as I sort, but so far, I've found:

Modern Polly Pockets- About half a gallon-sized baggie worth. Looks like nine or ten dolls and a bunch of rubber clothes for them.

ZhuZhu Pets- Just pets, no tracks or anything like that.

American Girl books

Baby-sitter's Club books

Neopets plushies- I think most of these are from McDonalds. I was never into Neopets myself, but picked these up because they were cute. I do have a plush pillow featuring a tiger-looking critter.

FurReal Friends- Mostly cats, but some other critters too.

Yesterday was town-wide garage sale weekend! :frolic: So, of course, I went shopping. And, I found a few treasures!

Now, aside from a few G3 ponies and a Harry Potter book, most of the stuff I found is stuff I plan on re-selling. The thing is, I don't really know what most of it is. XD Could you guys help me out with some IDs and, if possible, price checks?

First up, Rainbow Brite, her horse, and a buddy whose name I don't know:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The horse is about 12 inches tall; the dolls are about 9". All are dated 1983 on their tags, so I assume they're actual vintage rather than newer re-releases?

Next, two vintage Strawberry Shortcake dolls:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

These guys were in a tote full of random Barbie stuff. Strawberry was dressed as shown, but her little green friend was nekkid and nothing in the Barbie stuff looks like it belongs to her (him?). The bird and cat are marked "AGC" on the bottom, so I assume they are Strawberry and Greeny's pets?

Next, more stuff from the Random Tote 'o Barbie Stuff:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I can't decide if this horse is pretty or creepy. XD Those eyes... She's marked 1993 Tyco on the inside of her back leg.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Here we have a disembodied Smurf head, another Smurf, a pair of shoes that I'm guessing might go to one of the SSC dolls, and a... friend of the Chipmunks?

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Muppet Babies. I know Kermit and Ms. Piggy, but the blue guy's name escapes me.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Little charms with bells on them...

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

No clue on these guys. The little critter in the middle is marked Hasbro, the others don't seem to be marked at all.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

These little animals look to be crocheted, and are TINY; about the size of a quarter.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

These I'm pretty sure are MLP; the shiny thing looks like a Flutter wing (I had no idea they were so small!), and the shoes look like the right size/shape to be Ponywear.

And finally, I found a couple of Furbies. The picture didn't download for some reason, though, so for now I'm just going to describe them.

One is a Tiger 1999 Furby Baby. She's an off-white/light yellow color and her fur looks kinda "fleecey". She still has her paper tag attached to her body, and came with her instruction booklet.

The other is a Hasbro 2005(?) Furby with pink-and-cream/tan fur. I don't know if there were babies released by Hasbro or not, but I'd guess this one's an adult; she's pretty good-sized.

Any info on any of this stuff would be much appreciated! ^_^

Customs / Can G4 McPonies be re-tailed?
« on: June 03, 2015, 06:51:04 PM »
I have a ton of G4 McPony duplicates, and I was thinking about trying to customize them, but their tails really limit the options. Does anyone know if it's possible to re-tail them with new hair and (if it is) where I might find a tutorial on how to do it?

EDIT: And I think we have an answer!

I got looking at the AJ I found yesterday, and I could see glue inside her tail hole. So I ran her under the hot tap for a while to soften the plastic, and then pulled on her tail. It took some muscle, but it did pop out!

I was surprised to see that the hair wasn't simply glued in; it's actually wrapped around a little plastic peg and then glued in. The peg has little... I want to call them prongs, but I don't think that's quite the right word. Anyway, it has pieces on the end to keep the hair in place.

So, assuming all G4 McPonies are tailed the same way as this AJ (a "keychain" one from 2012), it looks like they are indeed re-hairable.

It's worth noting that with my "test" AJ, the prongs on the hair peg broke off when I unwrapped the hair from them. I think the glue might have dried out the plastic. I was flying blind and not being careful, though, so I think someone going into this knowing that the prongs were likely to be brittle would probably be able to unwrap the hair without breaking the peg.

Off Topic / Any antique experts here? Need info on something.
« on: May 17, 2015, 04:56:49 PM »
Does anyone here know anything about antiques? I bought this old lamp at Salvation Army a few months ago, and while I have a gut feeling that it's valuable, I know absolutely nothing about it to try and look it up. XD So I was hoping maybe someone here would be a bit more knowledgeable than me and could give me some info on it.

It's a big lamp; about 4 feet tall. I think the metal parts of it are brass. I checked it over for identifying marks, but I don't see anything at all on it.

Here are some pictures of it. Sorry for the sideways-ness of some of them, my computer refuses to rotate them from the Preview page and I'm too lazy to rotate them manually. XD

Price Check Archives / PC: G3 Latch Hook mat craft set?
« on: May 08, 2015, 08:57:49 AM »
I found a G3 latch hook set at a rummage sale today, and was wondering if anyone knew what it might be worth. ^_^

The one I have is this one. It's been opened and someone started putting the yarn into the mat, but it looks like everything is there. I'd say the mat is about 20% complete?

The Dollhouse / Doll covered in Sharpie; any hope of saving her?
« on: May 04, 2015, 04:07:13 PM »
I went out yard-saling this weekend, and in a pile of free stuff at one sale, I found a couple of Disney Princess dolls; Belle and Ariel.

Belle only had messy hair, but poor Ariel has a terrible case of Sharpie Poisoning; her face and limbs are all black.  :| Belle wouldn't let me leave her friend behind, though, so they both came home with me.

Does anyone have any advice for trying to clean Ariel up? She's a toddler Ariel, from (I think) the "My First Princess" line. I don't have a picture right now, but she is LITERALLY covered in Sharpie. Her face has hardly any flesh-colored spots left; it's all black.
