Trader & Shipping Support / Legitimacy of Aliexpress MLP figures - New update - Applejack has arrived!

I have been looking at this site a lot lately but I've never ordered anything. Today I found the Japan MLP figures (I always forget what they're called), you know, with the human version and pony version together? I'd like to add Applejack to my collection and everywhere else I've found it for sale it's been close to or over $100, I think the cheapest was $79. Aliexpress has all the figures for $29 each and it says 'save a dollar on check out'.

Is this real? Or are they bootlegs? I know how China is with bootlegs and stuff and copywrite and all that. Basically, they don't care. I'm thinking if I order one I'll get a bait and switch. Like the photo is of the official ones but what you get is poor quality and painted weird.

Would you buy one? What's your experience with Aliexpress and MLP stuff?

This runs from Jan 22nd to April 30th

Everyone is welcome! If you've been a customizer for decades or have never made a custom, you may participate! Fakies are fine to use!

This is not a swap! You will not be shipping or receiving a pony. You may do with your finished custom what you wish.

This is a challenge where guidelines are set and you make a custom based on those guidelines.

How does it work?
Options were gathered from members for each category. These options are then placed into a poll where other members (and those participating) get to vote on one or more. The voting is open for five days and when finished, the option with the most votes is the one the challenge uses.

Here are the poll options:

Polls 1, 2 & 3 - Colors: Body, hair, eyes
Polls 4, 5 & 6 - Theme, symbols, markings
Polls 7 & 8 - Accessory, required material (these are not mutually exclusive)

Polls will run back to back. This will give time to collect votes and for us to brainstorm and prepare our custom.

Why should I join?
This is a meant to be a fun challenge. It's a way to push yourself to use or do things maybe you've never done before. Beginners can use it as a step-by-step for making a custom. It's interesting to see how everyone interprets the prompts and the pony they make!

Prizes?
Not this time. The only prize will be the satisfaction of finishing!

This thread is a place for us to chat!

If you'd like to participate, just say so! There will be a list but it's mainly for me to keep track of people. This not an eligible event for feedback. There are no commitments. If at anytime you no longer wish to participate, you are perfectly able to walk away without repercussions.

FAQS

Q. For the body colors, would we pick one of the three, or incorporate all three into the main body somehow?

A. You need to use all three somehow. Like you can use one for the body, one for the symbols and one for the secondary markings. Or all three for the body if you want to do gradients or something.

And everyone remember you can use any hue, tint, tone or shade for the colors chosen.

Off Topic / Aquarium fish

I've been saving for a nano aquarium I can put a betta fish and shrimp in. Lots of plants too! Today I have finally narrowed down everything I need to get between three sites, Amazon, Etsy and Chewy. I followed this helpful blog post to get started (but I found cheaper/in stock items elsewhere). I don't have all the money yet but I was able to place my Etsy order sans live plants. I'll save those for after the tank can be set up

The tank is 7 gallons and rimless, all glass. I'm using black lava rocks and dragon wood as my hardscape. Plants I picked out are java fern, java moss, anubias nana petite (small clusters of green leaves) and cryptocoryne wendtii green (a broad leaf background plant). I'll also have mineral rocks for the shrimp and a couple of marimo moss balls.

I bought three hides/beds for the betta and a tunnel and cave for the shrimp.

Food is all picked out as is the bacteria starter for cycling and a test kit. I wanted to cycle without using other fish and I don't have or know anyone with an established tank, so this liquid starter adds stuff to grow the bacteria needed.

I'm really excited! I've always loved fish tanks and one of my dreams is to have a huge one, or several, with huge fish like oscars and knife fish. I'd also love to have a big ecosystem tank. I was never interested too much in saltwater tanks though I think they're neat. Cow fish are especially adorable.

For the actual fish, I looked on eBay at betta males, US based sellers. They all had mixed reviews and feedback. Plus, I'd rather interact with him before I buy, you know? So I'll be going to the local pet stores to see what I can find. Same for the shrimp and moss balls. That's not for a while yet though.

I had a betta once, he was dark blue and purple. Back then, you could only find one fin type, the veil tail, I think. They were kind of new to the mainstream. I didn't keep him in a bowl though, I knew better even then. He was in a 5 gallon round desk tank I set up on my dresser

He lived a long time, about 6 years. He had a great personality and would come out and see me.

If you have them

I'd like to keep losing weight and work toward volunteering at the local shelter. I also want to get my medical issues straightened out. I spent most of 2023 cancelling appointments and avoiding phone calls.

Other things; I'd like to get a hamster again. I already started buying supplies. I would also like to get a fish tank for my desk with a betta and some shrimp.

I want to focus on my miniatures as far as art goes.

I've never really made my apartment a home. The walls are mostly bare, I hardly have any friendly furniture, there are storage boxes all over. I'd like to start decorating as best I can within the rules (I can't paint, unfortunately). There are some old ideas from when I first moved in that I want to make happen.

What about you?

I'm considering bringing this back this year! A few changes will need to take place. First, no prizes. I can't afford them. The only prize will be the satisfaction of finishing

Second, since a lot of people waited for all the voting results to come in before starting, voting this time will start this month and the working time will be Feb-April.

Third, and I wanted your opinion on this one, should the voting options be the same as last time? Or, take away the options that won last time? (except the colors? I think those should stay) OR start from scratch? You can check the link at the top to see what won, it's on the first post.

My opinion? I think we should keep it the same but add to each category.

Would you be interested in joining?
