I can't be the only one looking at the movable wing thingies on the sides and thinking they'd make great steampunk pony wings, an I?

Maybe? Anyone else?

No?

Off Topic / Fleas. FLEAS! AUUUUGH!
« on: July 05, 2017, 08:35:49 AM »
Okay, so that being said, how do people handle the laundry situation? I have five cats in the house, the Advantage II 6-pack is supposed to arrive tomorrow, along with a 3-pack of Advantage II flea foggers. I have fleas on all three levels of the house - they're in the laundry room, despite the cats not being allowed downstairs. Plus, the cats like sleeping in the laundry baskets. And on the towel shelf. And on our beds. And they haven't been in mom's room much, but mom had fleas jumping at her when she pulled the covers back last night. ^^;

I want to make sure the foggers are the most effective, so how should I do this? Wash the essentials only, and worry that the fleas in the rest of the laundry might not be tagged? Wash the laundry and put it outside in a tent (which I would have to buy or borrow, as we don't have one)?

I'm going to buy a flea collar and cut it up to put into the canister vac, and the other vac we have; furniture will be vaccumed, carpet on stairs to my room will probably just be removed (the rest of the carpeting is already gone, anyway; thank god for small favors, I put in laminate flooring last summer). I'm going to move the couch and TV stand off the area rug so the foggers will hit all of it, I'll be moving all the furniture so I can clean under and behind each piece, 90% of my plushies are being bagged for a year of storage in the attic closet (which isn't insulated), while the rest get washed, and I'll be putting powder around the baseboards. The cats will be treated first, and I'd rather run the foggers on a day when I haven't worked, so that will be Tuesday most likely, as I've not enough sick time to call out with.

My main stressor at this point is the laundry. So - thoughts?

Pony Corral / Flea sprays/bug bombs vs ponies?
« on: June 24, 2017, 04:05:11 AM »
One of the cats escaped past mom and into the wilds of the backyard, and when mom finally brought her back in, she brought unwelcome visitors with her. So we have fleas in the house now. Ew! And they're biting me as well as the cats! Good grief, these itch! :yikes:

So I need to bug bomb both floors, and I'm wondering if I should inspect and bag/box up my G1 ponies before I do, or is it safe to just leave them out? Some are in a display cabinet, but it's not sealed to the wall, so spray will be able to get in there as well.

Any input is appreciated. Meanwhile, I've a ton of laundry and bedding that needs washing now (or so it seems, anyway), and all the papers that have been sitting out need to be gone through as well while I wait for an order of flea stuff from chewy.com

Thanks in advance, everyone! Wish me luck!

Pony Corral / Strange blanket in accessories lot
« on: April 24, 2017, 03:52:53 PM »
I'm not finding this one listed on the wiki, so I assume it's not G1, but it's very close in style - it even has the white corner lines dividing the border, and is the exact same size! Same feel of material, as well. Far as I can tell, those are keys, so I'll probably use it for Baby Locket.  ^.^

Were there other toy lines that used the same blanket, or was someone able to make a very good custom? Is it maybe G2?

Thoughts?

Off Topic / Banner ad tutorial?
« on: April 08, 2017, 05:34:09 PM »
I'm working on getting my shop up and running more this year, so thought I might want to eventually have one of those siggy ads where the words and images change, and you can click on it to be taken to the person's etsy store (or similar site).

Only problem is, I've no idea how to make one, and not sure where to start with learning! (Nor do I know what that kind of advert is called... )

Can anyone recommend some good youtube videos on the subject?

Off Topic / Need to rehome some cats
« on: September 20, 2016, 04:18:46 AM »
(Not sure if this should be here or in what's your problem.)

My best friend/sister is being forced to rehome almost all of her cats, and we still need to find homes for many of them. She lives in MN close to the IA border. We need to find homes for the following indoor cats within 12 days:

Yurei - White medium/long hair cat. Heterochromatic eyes - one is blue the other is gold (I think?); like many white cats with blue eyes, he is DEAF, and should not go outside (though he does try, and he does have his claws). Also, his gold eye has optical herpes, which means he needs to be given special drops every now and then, or he could also go blind. Because of this, there's a good chance the Humane Society would just put him down, so we're hoping to find him a good home. He does tend to chew on weird things, including cords and the water lines to the toilet, but some dishsoap rubbed along said items usually deters most cats who do this. He is 7 years old, rescued from along Hwy 35 near Hope, he has been given the birthdate of 7-03. Very affectionate, will climb your shoulder and loves attention. (I would take him myself, but mom said no.)

Leia - Tabby/Maine coon cross; medium/long hair. Looks like a Maine Coon. Also 7, definitive birthday 12/14. She is overweight and has trouble washing herself, but loves being brushed and will hold still wonderfully for it. Without brushing, her fur tends to snarl and get matts and her rear will need cleaning. She has a very quiet meow for her size, and is very affectionate. She is an indoor kitty, though has been known to go out for a few minutes. Loves cat nip toys, though we've yet to find her anything else she likes playing with to help the weight come off. (Also one I would adopt if mom would let me.)

Salem - Black cat with white markings, though not a tuxedo. Male, shorthair, age 2. Can be shy at first and may hide until he is used to you. Birthday is 3-13.

Sasha - indoor/outdoor cat. Great mouser. Doesn't like being touched though.

O'Ryan - orange and white tabby; Sasha's son. Has spinal dipthia (there's a dip in his spine), also likes going outside and is a good mouser.

These cats are not being given up willingly; suffice to say, her soon-to-be-EX sister-in-law is being vindictive and called the police to complain about how many cats she has despite them all being well cared for, so now her city's officials *have* to enforce the law with her, instead of turning a blind eye like before. We're not sure if the call was done in retaliation after she found out she could no longer lay claim to her husband's truck (which was put into their mother's name so he could still get to work), or becuase she thinks my sister brought fleas into her home (despite her allowing a random stray free access to her home), we just know it was done.

We have just under two weeks to find them homes, and are hoping that whoever takes them in will be willing to share pictures on social media so my sister and I know her former cats are doing well. The last time she had to give up her cats was when her family moved to MN from TN, and she gave the cats to the Humane Society, who proceeded to tell her "they are no longer your cats and no longer your concern" and hang up on her when she called to find out how they were doing; she is still haunted by wondering how her cats fared without her.

If you are able to take in one or more of these kitties, or know someone who can, please PM me as soon as you can. I have a few leads for the younger ones (who could go to the HS and find homes no trouble), but no commitments, and have obvious concerns on the first two, as older cats can be hard to place when they -don't- have health issues. All cats are spayed/nuetered, all are used to other cats and small dogs.

Thank you!

EDIT: We are currently working on seeing if she and her mom can receive a medical exemption for the legal amount they can have, as these cats are technically her anti-depressant/emotional support - she is clinically depressed, and any medication she has tried (and she's tried a lot of them) turns her into an unmotivated lump that can't even get out of bed. Her mother is Manic/depressive bi-polar and is having a hard time understanding what's even going on. Here's hoping!

EDIT #2: changed cat list as some have been saved due to being reclassified as special needs cats.

Trader & Shipping Support / Ebay - "Mark as paid" gone?
« on: August 09, 2016, 06:21:01 PM »
I bought an item via Ebay for my sister, and she paid for it via paypal (she doesn't have an ebay account). The seller has acknowledged the payment and shipped her item to her, but now I have Ebay going "hey you need to pay for this!" There used to be a "mark as paid" option for those who were doing money orders, but it looks like that's gone (possibly for quite some time?).

So... Now what?  :lookround:

(She couldn't send the payment to me as I'm having banking "fun" with my phone bill having been taken out twice. )

I'm trying to bid on a cake pan that is being sold by someone in the UK. I'm figuring, I've bought ponies from the UK before, this shouldn't be a problem! And the seller ships to the USA! Also not a problem!

And eBay isn't letting me bid. I'm receiving an error message:

"We are sorry but the item you selected may not be purchased due to Seller shipment restrictions, country specific import/export or other relevant restrictions.
{e50824-842132}, Action: 843132
(.Trading 12310)

(Please note that the part in between the {} brackets is in greyed text in the message I'm receiving.)

This is the first time I've ever received this message. I sent the seller a message asking if S/he had any thoughts on the problem, and thought I'd also post here to see if anyone here know what the hay that even means??

Many thanks! :)

Customs / Question for Apoxie Sculpt users
« on: May 31, 2015, 02:42:18 PM »
Would apoxie last if I use it to make an inner edge around a sink?

I ask because I'm trying to remodel the kitchen a bit for my Mom's birthday*, but our countertops are only 22" deep. This means I'd have to use an undermount sink, but that would leave the edges of the laminate countertop exposed to water.

Do you think I could use Apoxie Sculpt to make a slope from the edge of the countertop to the sink and have it last, or is this a bad idea?

Thanks! :D

*Naturally I find out I'd have enough money to go to the Fair *after* I cancel everything. >_>; Might as well make the most of it! ;D

Mailed the package on the 12th, have a receipt showing that's when I dropped it off. It was supposed to get to the buyer by the 15th - and USPS just barely reported the item received in Des Moines.

Customer asked me where he package was the Monday after he was supposed to receive it, I check the PO, they have no further tracking information than I did, and told me I had to wait 2 weeks before I could do anything about it. Customer continues to bug me about it, accuses me of not actually mailing it - I photograph the page the PO gave me and send it to him in a reply.

For some reason, the buyer thinks I should be able to do something about this. Opened a report, I repeated what I had already told him, gave him the tracking information - and given that I purchased the postage through ebay, he should have already had that tracking number (based on what I've seen as a buyer) - and told him, again, that I wasn't happy about it either but there wasn't anything I could do about it.

He just left me nagative feedback, because the PO is being slow. Since I can no longer leave negative or even neutral feedback for him, I elected to report him for giving me a neg for something I have no control over.

I think I won't be selling anything for my brother anymore. He can get his own account. :I

Pony Corral / Dish comparison pictures, please?
« on: February 22, 2015, 11:12:59 PM »
I'm sorting accessories, and am having trouble telling the color of a dish. Does anyone have a picture/can take a picture of Baby Countdown's periwinkle blue dish, and Baby Sunnybunch's light blue dish, so I can see them side-by-side? I thought I had Countdown's, but now I'm not so sure. ^^;

Thank you!

Pony Corral / MLP Life
« on: August 26, 2014, 08:52:33 AM »
Didn't find a topic on this, so not sure if it's been mentioned.

Toywiz has a new pony game - http://www.toywiz.com/mylittleponylife.html

Comes with Princess Twilight, DJpon3, "Bubbles" and Dr. Whooves. I don't know if it's in stores yet, but I plan to look for it at Target, at the least! :whoa:

If not, we know where we can find it! :)

I wonder if we can use blind bag figures for it?

Trader & Shipping Support / What would have happened?
« on: July 29, 2014, 09:42:45 PM »
I'm selling some items on ebay for my older brother (who doesn't have an account) and have someone there ask me questions about the large lot of gaming materials.

First he asked if we could trade; I said no, as my brother doesn't have any one to play with and can no longer afford the hobby. The guy (who happened to be the high bidder at the time), recommended a website my brother could find someone to play with on. I thanked him and said I would pass the information along. His reply was to also let him know about the trade offer as he'd "have more luck selling the Chaos." I thank him but let him know my brother is basically getting out of the game completely, so isn't interested in trading.

A couple days go by, and this guy is still the high bidder, when I get a message on eBay from him saying he gets paid on the first, but the most he can pay is $100. Since this auction started at $100, as we're not offering free shipping on it, I reply that I'm fine waiting the extra day for payment, but the total would be $100 plus shipping (which is about $35 given the size of the lot; I'm seriously shipping this out in one of the small moving boxes Home Depot carries.  ). His reply to this was, "let me see if I can swing the extra $35 I doubt it though."

Seriously??

I decided to wait and see how the auction ended, since it only had a few hours left, instead of replying to that last one.

Luckily, someone else outbid him, so I don't have to worry about it, but if he had won, and then refused to pay the shipping cost, am I correct in thinking my only course would have been to file a NPB and relist it? I can tell you right now that from his "tone" he would not have been pleasant to deal with if he had won.

Honestly. Some people.  :awake:

Off Topic / Computer help please?
« on: November 23, 2013, 01:27:26 AM »
My computer is having start up issues. This started two days ago:

Turn it on, the blue HP logo comes up, but there are rows of black dots running down the screen. Not pixel sized, either - these are almost 1/8" around. It sits there for a bit, then tried going to the windows start up screen. Stays there for maybe a blink, then back to the HP logo it goes, but with fewer rows being solid.

This repeated for a bit on Thursday, then Windows was able to start up and everything worked fine.

Needless to say, I backed up my music and documents. Ironically, thats what I had turned the computer on to do in the first place!

Yesterday, turned the computer on, and its still doing it. I backed up my bookmarks once the computer got into start up.

This morning, it stated doing it, but wound up with the screen back-lit and black. Tried forced restart, and it only did the HP screen once before going black and back-lit.

My brother thinks my hard drive is shot; my boyfriend thinks its the video card, as his compy did something similar. Neither have actually seen the compy doing this. It's worth noting that there was an automatic update to WindowsXP Pro Wednesday night upon shut down - before this started. Thursday I ran Malwarebytes (nothing) and Spybot (2 minor cookies), and yesterday I ran a deep scan with Avast virus scanner (also got nothing).

Thoughts?

Also, please let me know if this should be in WYP instead; it seems so... Minor, compared to whats mormally there.
