Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Unicorn Squad
« on: January 29, 2021, 12:41:45 AM »
I haven't seen these before, but apparently they're at Target! They're poseable, come with 5 accessories, and have a brushable tail.

I think they're cute! I guess $6 isn't TOO bad for them considering what Hasbro wants for the $3 MLP blind sets (microscopic, undetailed, no accessories).
Unicorn Squads look to be about 3", the size of a G4... maybe a bit smaller? So even then they might beat out brushables in term of getting your money's worth... ^^; The only downside of course is that it's a "surprise" toy...

Arts & Crafts Corral / 2021!

Year of G5, hopefully!

Here's hoping it looks more like the silhouette than not!

There's parts of this I like, others I don't... I think Potion Nova looks the best. ^^; I had to redo Snuzzle and Sunny Daze over 3 times each and I'm still not happy with them...

Pony Corral / Generated Ponies
« on: November 13, 2020, 01:03:13 AM »
I was going to update my Pony Generator post but I guess it's too old! Has it already been a year and a half since I posted that? XD

I added some new things to it, like a couple of themes and gimmicks, and a TON of hair colours. The possible outcomes went from 30-something million to over 98 million! The results change every day if you want something different. :) https://en.shindanmaker.com/905741

I decided to doodle the results I really liked!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / New Webkinz Reboot
« on: October 23, 2020, 12:37:53 PM »
A while ago I made a post about how Neopets was getting a reboot some time in the near future as well as a cartoon. With the end of Flash near, Webkinz has also been making some major changes such as moving onto an app, both for desktop and smart devices.

I expected them to keep everything as-is, the same as it was from 2005. Nope! They just announced a reboot of Webkinz. Still titled "Webkinz", but the 2005 Flash version will still be available and supported, titled "Webkinz Classic". The new Webkinz is available on smart devices right now but will be on desktop eventually.

Some of the features:

- Totally 3D! The pets are three-dimensional and can be dressed as before.
- A baby system...? There seems to be some sort of genetics mechanic where two pets can have a baby, and the outcome of the baby can vary! They will grow up into "kid pets" and eventually adults.
- Advanced home customization. In the original Webkinz, you had items you placed on a grid and could rotate 90 degrees. You have that option here too, but now items can be placed off the grid in any direction. Also, your house is an actual house now with connected rooms you can freely move around in without loading screens, without a bunch of disconnected rooms.

Here's the post they made about it: https://webkinznewz.ganzworld.com/join-the-family/

Arts & Crafts Corral / Seasonal Mane 6
« on: October 13, 2020, 11:25:10 PM »
Prompted by "I wish seasonal ponies would come back" and "I don't think people would mind Mane 6 releases that much if they were visually interesting/different" so here it is, something completely out of season! (Let's be real, if we got something seasonal, Hasbro probably wouldn't introduce new characters... at least for G4)

I guess the Southern Hemisphere can enjoy this now but either way Easter is a ways away... ;) I just wanted to do something very pastel. Inspired by Rainbow Power, but is flower and bunny themed.

This drawing was done quick and it's not really up to my standards... if I design other ponies I'm not sure if it will be a finished picture or just a sketch!

Pinkie -> Valentines
Applejack -> Autumn/Halloween
Rarity -> Winter/Christmas
Twilight -> New Years...?
Rainbow Dash -> Not sure! Maybe summer? Birthday?

Arts & Crafts Corral / How do ponies pet cats?

Also in video form because it's best when accompanied by music:
https://youtu.be/hQhpkcWI6CA

Based on videos online of horses using their upper lip to... pet... cats...? XD I've been doing little animations lately as warmups for drawing. Unfortnately for whatever reason the video kept messing up a frame or two of the animation so I had to clip those parts out, so Peachy's blink isn't as smooth and Twinkles doesn't blink at all! The way it exported the colours is odd too... not sure why it's so bright! The GIF version is the correct one.

Pony Corral / G3 Mane Guides/Lines?
« on: July 25, 2020, 04:48:13 PM »
I was doing my routine "looking at and brushing my ponies because I have nothing better to do" when I noticed something about my Cotton Candy.

I have two Cotton Candys. One I bought already loose, and one I bought MIB. The now out-of-box CC came with a pamphlet for the Butterfly Island sets, so this would've had to been released (or, re-released) in late 2004 at the earliest. She's also a duller shade of pink but I'm certain it's due to sun damage. She's in weird shape, a lot of the paint from the playset rubbed off on her feet, and there's some purple paint on her neck. Not sure if this was lazily made with little care for quality or it's a result of age... or maybe a mix of both?

The other CC I bought, pre-owned. I don't know where she came from or what she's been through. She's in better shape than my "MIB" CC for sure. Even though I'm sure these were both made around the same time in 2003, I'll call my pre-owned CC the "2003" one, and the other one my "2005" CC. I would call 2005 the "MIB" one but she's kinda out of the box now... XD

But anyway, onto the actual point of this post, I was playing with 2005's hair and I noticed these lines along her hair. The ones by her forelock were white so I assumed it was just... stressed...? plastic (I don't really know the terminology for this), similar to how G4s would end up. I thought it was just the plastic itself but nothing else. Looking closer, there are also pink and blue lines, right where the pink and blue strips of hair would start, respectively. Like a guide of how to root it.

After parting her hair you could see right in the middle there's a block of blue! I assume it's paint, but I haven't tried to do anything with it yet. The white is clear as day, but the pink is so pale it's hard to show up on camera. Towards the bottom you can see the blue lines as well.

2003's hair, like the rest of her, looks much better. You don't see any distracting white lines on her neck except for her forelock. I had a harder time parting her mane for this one, but you can see the lines are less visible as well. You can see the pink lines more clearly, including a block of pink. The blue seems to have rubbed off or bled into the plastic. You can see where it's coloured the plastic, looking sort of like a bruise. Now, I don't think I've washed 2005 at all, but I have washed 2003 a couple times, perhaps that caused the paint to fade or bleed in? I can't remember what she was like when I received her and I will never know what she looked like when she was brand new. Going back to 2005, I wonder if her lines are more visible due to her overall poorer quality as well.

2003's guides are inside of the rows, more out of sight. Compare that to 2005, where it looks like it was painted right on top of where the plugs would go.

I don't have many other Rainbow Celebration ponies— most of my 2003 G3s are Glitters. Sunny Daze is my one Rainbow, but she doesn't have any guides for her hair, either. It's weird how both of my Cotton Candys have these guides on them but not her despite both characters having multicoloured hair. The other ponies I have in my collection made later on don't have any lines on them either. It's purely a Cotton Candy thing, as far as my collection is concerned!

How common is this in ponies? Does anyone else have ponies with lines like this? ...or is this a problem exclusive to Cotton Candy?! :P Do you have a G3 Cotton Candy like this?

Pony Corral / Ponies you forget about?
« on: July 02, 2020, 06:29:49 PM »
Which ponies do you find yourself forgetting about? Not talking about "underrated" or "overlooked" ponies or anything. I mean, if you were to list off every pony in a generation or line, are there any you would miss?

There are certain lines where I know they're there and I remember them, but I mix up the names or something, such as the Princess Ponies or the Sunshine Ponies. I wouldn't count those.

I was thinking about Flutterbutter and Bubblecup. Both of these ponies are ones I owned as a kid, but they didn't leave an impression on me. A lot of G3s are forgettable I think, like Banjo Blue, Star Dasher, or Savannah Sage, which is too bad because I like a lot of these ponies! I just... never think about them... and forget they exist... :lookround: Maybe it's a sign I should buy them and give them the love they deserve?

People are always talking about G1, and so a lot of ponies are always brought up. Even though G1 has the most variety in characters, I feel like I remember a lot more of them because of how often they are bought into conversation. I can't think of any completely "forgettable" G1s. Even if I don't remember their names, I don't forget them. It's just a matter of "Oh yeah, it's you! It's uhhh, whatshername! Yeah!" rather than "Oh yeah, you exist. Whoops".

Now that I think of it, maybe it's because of G1's variety that they're not as forgettable (at least to me). If I can remember all the gimmicks and sets, I can picture the set in my head and I know who's in it, just about. G3 has a lot more "regular" nothing-special ponies, like the "Perfectly Ponies" such as Cinnamon Breeze or Piccolo. I think the Magic Message ponies are the ones I see people talk about the least...? I don't remember many of the SHSs but to be fair, I never made an attempt to learn their names in the first place.

But if I can't think of any particular pony, that means I'm definitely forgetting someone!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Schleich Thread
« on: February 11, 2020, 08:55:51 PM »
I feel like I've seen a Schleich thread before but it might have been old... or maybe they were just sales related? Anyway here's a dedicated thread if you want to show off anything Schleich! I really like the Bayala line but I don't need to buy any more horses... not right now, anyway. They're gorgeous, though.

So instead of horses I bought some dragons! :P

I need to take (better) pictures of the playset itself but here are the Island dragons I have now:

I also bought the flower dragons, who haven't arrived yet. I hope they come out with more because there aren't enough cutesy girly dragons in the world! The other Schleich dragons are really cool but Bayalas are what I'd rather spend my money on, I think... I know Safari has some cool ones too that I might get in the future. :)

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Neopets Reboot
« on: February 10, 2020, 06:13:13 PM »
Neopets... 2! *peggle2.gif*

I don't keep up with Neopets because even though I played it a little as a kid, I wasn't huge on it, and I haven't been able to get into it as an adult, either. So maybe this was hinted at previously, but there's going to be a new Neopets cartoon! Yes! I'm not kidding! Better late than never...? Along with the cartoon they're supposedly making a new Neopets site, a new app, and new merch. There's no further news about the new games and cartoon or what they'd even be called, as far as I know. Just that "the brand" will be "revamped" and "reimagined". The games are set to release some time this year.

The news was posted on the official Neopets site under "News": http://www.neopets.com/nf.phtml

And there are many articles about it including this one: https://kidscreen.com/2020/02/10/beach-house-pictures-adopts-neopets/

I guess this would be expected with Flash not being supported by the end of the year. I wonder what will happen to the old site? It has such a legacy, but only really the games require Flash, right? Imagine if they closed it down for good like Disney did with Club Penguin... I'm sure they wouldn't replicate that mistake.

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Sylvanian Families Frustration
« on: December 02, 2019, 10:24:32 AM »
I'm American, I'm stuck with Calico Critters. And I just want to say: I hate all the houses we get. All we get are the same old red-and-white houses and add-ons to said houses. The layouts are all so boring. I know that's what everyone is getting right now but that's what I'm stuck with since all the sellers aren't American and shipping is expensive.

I've been looking at vintage/retired houses that were UK/Japan-exclusive and WOW they are so much better. Variety in colour, layout, shapes, you name it. All different kinds. They're also... much more expensive. I really wanted the Hillcrest house but it doesn't look like it would fit a lot of furniture in it. My current loves are the Larchwood Lodge and the Woodland Lodge (but I don't love it enough to spend $300+ on it...).

I guess I'm just ranting into the void right now because a lot of people here don't collect Sylvanian Families, and it might seem useless to ask, but does anyone know of anything that can fit Sylvanians? I don't like Woodzeez either. I know that there's dollhouse kits on Amazon and such but they never seem to be the right scale.

Results on Google say they're 1:16 but I can NEVER seem to find kits/houses that are actually that scale. Searching "1:16 dollhouse" on eBay is more successful, but Amazon only wants to show me 1:12 scale things. Ugh.

Off Topic / Advice for Banks/Online Banks?
« on: November 29, 2019, 07:22:55 PM »
After too many years I FINALLY have an ID which means I can do thinks like have my own bank account... finally! It's important to me especially because that means I can take commissions via Paypal with real money (compared to the Amazon credit I've been doing for the past year), and I can do things like open a shop or something to sell my art as prints.

Not sure how to do that though or what I should look for...? I'm doing my own research of course but it'd be nice to hear advice from real people with real experience and not just blog posts...

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Looking for a wooden stable...
« on: November 18, 2019, 09:09:38 AM »
(Just to clarify, I'm not looking to buy, I just need to identify this if possible!)

I was a horse girl growing up. I played with MLPs, of course, but I also had Breyers, both Stablemates and the full-sized figures.

One year for Christmas (maybe around 2002-2004) I got this huge wooden stable. It was a full rectangular building, it wasn't "half-a-building" and it wasn't foldable. You played with it through the roof that had hinges. I remember the roof specifically because if you weren't careful, it would slam down on you and it would hurt! It had a couple stalls in it but I don't remember how many there were. I don't remember if it came with any accessories other than a foldable green wooden fence.

With Google's help, I found this Van Manen stable. It looks the most what I had as a kid but it's too small. This looks like it's for minifigures. I used my stable to play with full-sized Breyers.

Breyer has a stable that looks similar to this, but it is still for Stablemates.  The fence to this one is plastic too, instead of wooden.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The fence was one that looked like this, but painted green:visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I'm fairly certain it was for full-sized horses and not Stablemates, because I had a few Stablemates playsets and they were all plastic. I know Melissa and Doug makes a lot of wooden toys, but their stables are all foldable, which mine was not.

I can't remember if mine had "brick" on it like the Van Manen and the Stablemates ones. It might have been unpainted. I think the roof might've had shingles on it.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? :lookround:

Pony Corral / Pony Life and G4.5
« on: November 13, 2019, 08:11:52 AM »
This is the moment it's all lead up to, a new animated series to go with the new style of brushables.

The caption on Instagram and the description on Youtube says:

Quote
"We just revealed the next exciting chapter for the MY LITTLE PONY franchise: MY LITTLE PONY: PONY LIFE, an all-new animated series launching next year. More surprises to be revealed soon, we’re feeling good!"

Here is a link to the trailer, it mostly shows off the toys. However, there's some tweened ponies overlayed on top of the footage, and it definitely looks Teen Titans Go!-esque, with sparkly eyes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbW31AkTRzo

I'll try to update this with new information if I can, as long as I have interest. XD

Here's a look at the new designs from the trailer:

Series synopsis courtesy of Entertainment weekly:
Quote
Pony Life relocates the ponies to Sugarcube Corner, a local bakery hangout run by Pinkie Pie, which also houses a mysterious cache of magical potions to be broken out when the need arises. The new series will feature all of Friendship Is Magic‘s beloved ensemble — including Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, and Fluttershy — as well as the same voice actors returning. Befitting the title, Pony Life‘s stories will reportedly be more “slice of life”-oriented than the adventure-driven Friendship Is Magic.
