I'm not really a collector, although I acquired a handful of models when I was a child.  More recently, I've found a couple at a thrift store.  One of those was today.  I recognized him as a Breyer (just by overall quality) before I even picked him up to check inside the leg.  When I tuned him over, I found this:

I haven't seen this before and was wondering when they started marking models this way.

Here's the horse, by the way.  He's nothing special and pretty worn, but I got him, anyway.

Pony Brag Arena / Goodwill Finds
« on: July 07, 2016, 02:27:46 PM »
My Goodwill has not been a place to find ponies.  I found a G3 a long time ago, and I see G4s every once in awhile.  Generally, I just figure that there won't be ponies when I go there (which is pretty frequently, since it's a block away).  So when I turned the corner to the toy aisle today and saw these two, I could just barely contain my excitement!!  :frolic:

They didn't have prices on them, so a store employee took them back to get tags.  They came back with 99-cent stickers on them!!

Obviously, I haven't cleaned them up yet.  I already have a nice SS Gusty, so this girl will probably go to another home at some point.  And I'm very happy to add Scrumptious to my herd.  :good:

Pony Brag Arena / Mixed Lot
« on: June 18, 2016, 07:17:36 PM »
My husband picked up this lot for me yesterday.  (I asked him to, but he was willing to do it.)  It was hard to tell exactly what was in the lot from the picture in the ad, but I decided that it was worth it for $10.

I'm quite happy about Princess Serena and Baby Glory, since I didn't have them (other than pearlized Baby Glory).  I just got Glory last week, too, so this baby has a mommy.  :)

Several G3s (and a 3.5), although the one regular-sized one is bait (missing an ear and the magnet and bottom of her hoof):

A bunch of G4s, including a mini Rainbow Dash army:

And fakies.  I actually think the green one might be rather pretty if she had decent hair.

Since I collect only G1, I'll pass the others on.  I don't really know anything about them, though.  Are they worth cleaning up and trying to sell?

Pony Corral / Ocean-view Ponies!!
« on: June 12, 2016, 08:30:04 PM »
We went to the beach this weekend.  My brother-in-law and his family rented an oceanfront house for a few days and invited us to visit, so we had an overnight stay and got to play in the sand.

I decided that I had to take some seaside ponies with me.

I'm glad I did, because they made me smile every time I saw them.  It was just fun to have them along, and they stayed safe in our room.  And I took a few pictures of their little adventure.  :silly:

Here they are posing in front of the lamp-base on the side table:

A rather blurry shot of Sea Breeze and Pina Colada, but a nice view of the beach:

Pony Brag Arena / Latest Lot!!
« on: June 10, 2016, 07:49:02 PM »
Last week, I spotted an ad with a title about a bunch of MIB G3s.  I don't collect G3, but I was curious about this huge lot of MIB ponies, so I looked at the ad, anyway.  I'm so glad that I did!!  In addition to "several tubs" of boxed G3s, the person had 15 G1s.  There weren't any details or pictures in the ad, but I contacted her and asked if she'd be willing to sell the G1s separately.  She was, and she asked what I would pay for them.  At this point, I didn't even know which ponies they were, let alone their condition, so I just threw out a low sum in order to get a feel for what she was thinking.  She responded that it was too low, and I asked what she had in mind.  At this point, she sent me a picture of the ponies.  Some of you might have seen it, because I posted it in the Pony Corral to ask for a price check.

The answers that I initially got as to a reasonable price were higher than I could manage, so I told her that she had some nice ponies but that wouldn't be able to give her what she needed/wanted for them.  (She had indicated that she was selling them because she was in a tight spot and needed the money.)  She asked if I knew what any of them were and if any of them were special.  I told her that there weren't any really valuable ones in the lot, named all the ponies for her, and gave her a price range for the group.  I also told her that she could come to the Arena for additional pricing help and/or to sell the ponies.  I resigned myself to letting this lot get away.

She responded very appreciatively.  It turns out that she is a collector and reseller of Breyer models, and she is used to people not wanting to give out information.  She said that if I were still interested, I could have the ponies for half of the lowest price I'd given her.  I said that I was but that I didn't know how/when I'd be able to get them.  (She lives an hour away, and my husband has the car during the week.)  She replied that she would ship them to me at cost.

And so I got a box of ponies this week:

I am especially excited about the Sweet Celebrations family, since they are the only one of the US Loving Families that I didn't have.  Most of the ponies are in good shape.  Blossom and Apple Jack are somewhat brown, and Baby Moondancer has a lot of plastic breakdown.  Overall, I am quite happy with them.  Glory and Gusty are pretty much perfect, and Magic Star has lovely flocking.  I've cleaned up a few of them and will eventually get to the others (along with the majority of the rest of my collection...).

Mainsail was part of a lot that I got a couple months ago, but I just cleaned her up.  I thought it would be fun to take her and the Tropical Ponies to the beach.  :)
(Her color-changing hair is pretty frizzed, so the braids look best at the moment.)

I'll post more pictures as I get the others cleaned up.

Pony Corral / Favorite Pose
« on: June 04, 2016, 12:20:04 PM »
Do you have a favorite pony pose?  Would you make a "pose army" of all the ponies made from that mold?

My favorite is the Posey pose.  Posey has always been one of my favorite ponies, and I've always thought her pose was neat.  I think maybe the ponies in that pose look a bit more like real horses than those in most of the other poses.

And yes, I think I would like to have an army of all the Posey-posed ponies.  :good:

Pony Corral / NSS Buttons
« on: June 01, 2016, 01:05:16 PM »
One of the pictures on My Little Wiki of NSS Buttons has her labeled as an international variant.  Was she released in the US, or only overseas?  I know SS Buttons was a US release, but I'm curious about her unflocked relative.  :good:

Pony Corral / Which are the long-haired Year 3 ponies?
« on: December 18, 2015, 06:11:19 PM »
I know there were a few (four?) re-releases in Year 3 of G1, but I don't recall who they were, other than Apple Jack (I just discovered that I have one!) and maybe Medley?  Who knows which ones they are?  Is there any difference in value between them and the regular release (Year 1) of the ponies?

Customs / What would you charge to rehair a G1?
« on: December 07, 2015, 03:34:14 PM »
An acquaintance of mine saw pictures of my rescue of Star Hopper and asked me what I would charge per pony to replace the hair on her lot.  I've only rehaired one pony thus far, so I don't have a very good time estimate.  (I know practice will speed up the process.)  So, those of you who have more experience doing this, what would you charge per pony?   :what:

Some of you wanted to see what I did to save the abused Star Hopper that came into my hands.  Well, now you can.  :good:

I tried to remove the pen marks, but they just didn't come out.  With her translucent body, they were all too obvious.  I glued the sliced areas before I covered her with glitter, and I repainted her symbols, especially since one of them had been partially obliterated by some of the cutting.  Since I was customizing her with the glitter, anyway, I decided to go ahead and give her a different hair color, which I think works better than the original yellow.  A lot of the original tinsel was cut or broken, so she probably would have needed a rehair in order to look decent.  I haven't decided yet what I want her final hair length to be, so I've just left it really long for now.  I wasn't able to get the pink marker off her ears, but it doesn't bother me.  I think it looks kinda cute with the glitter over it, actually.  And I repainted her eyes, especially the one that had been stabbed with a pen.

Here she is after:

So she's obviously not original, but at least she has a new chance at life.   :good:

Pony Corral / Pindot
« on: December 04, 2015, 09:44:21 PM »
I have an Apple Jack with pindot all over her body. (Her head is lovely, though.) I have tried soaking her in OxyClean, scrubbing her under hot water, and boiling her before scrubbing with a toothbrush. Nothing has made the slightest difference. Any ideas?   :what:
