Off Topic / Looking for a book...probably requires UK help
« on: October 21, 2020, 03:19:23 PM »
One of the librarians I work with is looking for a physical copy of "Do It for Your Mum" about the band British Sea Power.  He says that every copy he's ever seen has been outrageously priced-I think it might not have been widely available in the US and that might be the reason.  So I thought perhaps I could ask if anyone out there has a copy or could find a copy cheap that they'd be willing to part with.

Edit to add: He just sent me the link from Amazon UK and it's outrageously priced there, too.  So I guess it didn't have a large print run.  But I figure if I ask and the answer is "Nobody has one for cheap" then we're not any worse off than we were before.

In the game there are challenge cards that you have to complete and the only challenge I haven't done is add a friend.  However, nobody I know plays and it won't give me another challenge card until that challenge is complete.  Is anyone on here playing that would like to be Pokemon friends?

Pony Corral / Basic Fun is worried about their retailers...
« on: May 26, 2020, 01:36:53 PM »
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/florida-toy-importer-braces-retail-102147752.html?.tsrc=fin-srch

I've said it before.  If Basic Fun would open up an online store and let us buy directly from them, they'd make bank.  I know that you can buy some things from Amazon, but I'd really like access to their full line, which I think they could easily manage via their website.  Relying on Walmart and Target to choose our options for us is part of why they didn't make Flutter ponies and who knows what else they decided we wouldn't want.

But they've had to do a bunch of layoffs and paycuts during the shutdown so even that might not be enough to save them.  :(

I'd really like to see Basic Fun continue with the pony lines at least long enough to make us baby and big brother lines of ponies.

Edit: fixed the link--apparently the first one I posted didn't work.

I was signed out of my account, which I never do.  Do we get signed out automatically every so often or should I be concerned that my account has been compromised?

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Pokemon Vivillon Question
« on: December 16, 2019, 06:49:38 PM »
So I'm trying to get all the Vivillon forms (and extras to have on hand for my nieces and nephews) and I have a UK 2DS and a US one.

My question concerns the Elegant pattern.  I've been looking online and some sources say that it can be found in the USA (no specific location setting to narrow it down) and some say France (again, no specific location setting).  But other sources say it is only available in Japan.  Does anyone know for sure if I can get this pattern without purchasing a Japanese DS?  The GTS is apparently shutting down in February so trading that way may not be an option for much longer and I know that my younger nephews will likely play X/Y or Sun/Moon after it shuts down so having a replenishable source would be nice.

Off Topic / Ordering from Amazon UK when I live in the US
« on: November 15, 2019, 12:14:21 PM »
So I really want the white/lavender 2DS that is available in Europe (along with a copy of Pokemon X or Y to play on it).  My brother was in London this last week and couldn't find either for me so I thought I'd try to order it from Amazon.  However, if I purchase it from Amazon UK, will they ship it to me in the states?  I wasn't sure if they would and if they're not going to I really don't want to waste the time/money to try.  I thought maybe someone on here might know.

Customs / Cutie Mark Crew Customs
« on: October 27, 2019, 01:00:30 PM »
I've been working on some crafts including some custom cutie mark crews!  They were painted with Testor's brand acrylic model paints.  I'm going to be taking these to Big Easy Con in New Orleans (booth B-05) so if any of you are there, come say hi!

For Sale - For Auction / Gauging Interest on G3 Mystery Boxes
« on: August 03, 2019, 09:28:00 AM »
I have a bunch of G3s that need new homes.  I do not really have time to sell them individually so I was wondering if there would be any interest in a G3 Mystery Box: A box I fill with random G3s and send off to a new home.  All were rescued from thrift so quality varies, as do issues such as hair frizz, tail rust, etc.  I may even go so far as to create a "Bait" box, with ponies that could definitely use some TLC (bite marks, obvious hair cuts, etc.) but it would depend on how many of those I find as I box them up.  I think I have around 300 G3s left so multiple "Mystery Boxes" would be created.  Due to the size of box I'm thinking of using and shipping costs, I would only send to mainland US.  (Although if you live close enough to me we could arrange a pick up.)

I just don't know how much demand for G3s there is at the moment and I think that flooding my local thrift store would be bad because if things don't sell within a certain time period, they throw it out.

(Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I figured it fit here best) :)

Off Topic / Anyone familiar with Big Easy Con in New Orleans?
« on: May 15, 2019, 06:23:45 AM »
My friend has gotten a booth at the Con and wants me to go with her.  I know nothing about New Orleans (except what I've seen on Pit Bulls and Parolees ).  Anyone been to the Con?  Any tips or tricks for the Con or New Orleans?  I've looked at the Big Easy Con site but it's too early for them to have a lot of information about guests for this year yet.

Pony Brag Arena / My brother found ponies in the wild for me.
« on: March 27, 2019, 01:34:16 PM »
I had surgery on my ACL yesterday and today my brother brought me some ponies he found at a local thrift store.  There was a G4 Pinkie Pie, G3 Denim Blue, G1 Cherries Jubilee and G1 Beachcomber (no float).  He said that he recognized the baby sea pony in the bag so he grabbed it.  I have trained him well.

Customs / Has anyone tried...

using a G4 reboot head on a G4 body?  I haven't decapitated a reboot yet so I wasn't sure if it was even possible to do, but I had an idea for a custom and I wanted it to have a bit more expressive expression.

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Questions for those in London...
« on: October 04, 2018, 01:10:26 PM »
My SIL is going to London for her job and I'm considering asking her to pick me up a 2DS and a copy of Pokemon X or Y (so I can cheat and get lots of the various Vivillon forms for trading to my nieces and nephews).

My question is this:  How much is a 2DS (I'm leaning towards asking her to get the new Purple/silver one) and how much is a copy of Pokemon X/Y?  And also, where should I tell her to look for the game/console?

Customs / Has anyone tried Swirl Painting a pony?
« on: August 11, 2018, 09:34:20 PM »
I came across this tutorial and wondered if it could be used on ponies.  Has anyone tried it before?  Will the materials damage the pony in the long run (like nail polish does)?

Pony Corral / Help pricing a G3 Lot
« on: December 10, 2017, 03:24:41 PM »
(I hope I have this in the right place)

I think I'm going to sell off my G3s.  They're just sitting in the closet and taking up quite a bit of space.  They range in quality from poor to very good (I won't label any of them mint as most were purchased from thrift stores).  Some have frizzy hair or have marker (mostly on bottoms of hooves but some have been drawn on by someone-I'm assuming a child).  Some have other damage (such as teeth marks) but overall they're in decent shape. They are all in definite need of a spa day as they have terrible box hair and I don't have time to make them look pretty for a photo shoot.  I just did a count and I have 395 (not including the yellow Breezies that will be going with them).  There are a lot of duplicates but a good range of characters as well.  I haven't decided if I'm going to add in any accessories as I haven't sorted through those recently.

I have been going back and forth with putting them on the arena and selling them piece by piece, or putting them in a lot on my local classifieds.  I know that selling on the arena can take a lot of time, but then people here know what they're looking for and that might make some of them sell faster.  But that's also a lot of trips to the post office and a lot of packing things up and since it's right before Christmas, that's a lot of extra work. Unless anyone wants to pay shipping for such a large package as a single lot, then I think the mail is out. I would also hesitate to do international shipping because it's so outrageously expensive.  I kind of want to clear out some space, but if I wait until after the holidays things won't be so crazy so that might be better for selling.  On the other hand, if I put them in my local classifieds as a lot, buyer pays cash and they can come pick them up rather than dealing with postage and the chance that it would get lost in the mail. And maybe some lucky kid (or collector) will get a big chunk of ponies for Christmas.  And if they don't sell at all then after the holidays I can try again or maybe put them on here when I have more time to sell them in smaller bits.

So I guess I'm wondering if $600 is too much to ask for them as a lot.  That's still less than $2 a pony but where they're not all perfect, I don't know if that's aiming a bit high. Currently on the local classifieds there's a "huge" lot of vintage ponies that has 65 G1s for $500 so I guess my lot would have to be labelled "ginormous"?  I haven't really done a lot of pony sales so what do you guys think?
