Pony Corral / Plasticizer leakage?
« on: January 07, 2018, 01:45:58 PM »
I just took my collection out of storage, planning to sort through them for sales, and... they're tacky. They literally feel as though they have a film on them! On some it's barely noticable; others, like G1 Butterscotch and G3 Glitterbelle, are pretty gross.

I know that particular G3 set is known for leaking plasticizer, which makes me wonder... what causes plasticizer leakage? Is it repairable? Can one pony cause the others to 'contract' it, for lack of a better term? They've been under my bed in a plastic storage bin for years, but this the first time that I've ever seen this occur.

The only other thing I can think of is that, because of their location, they've absorbed moisture. During winter, my room has a tendency to collect condensation on the wall nearest my bed. (I recently found out about Dry-Z-Air units and am considering getting one for my room.) The ponies have been set out in rows to air out; not sure if that'll do any good. This is really frustrating!

EDIT: Not sure if this makes any difference, but there were some G2 LPS stored with them as well, and they aren't tacky. :S

Arts & Crafts Corral / Autumn Stroll
« on: December 13, 2017, 02:14:03 PM »
Hello hello! It's been quite a while since I last posted my artwork on here.

(In fact, now that I think about it, the last time I posted my work was when I drew my avatar. The MLP one, that is -  I didn't draw my current one.)

My style has been altered since then, growing a bit bulkier and less.. skinny, for lack of a better term.

I found some gel pens in a desk drawer, and despite using them for scribbly notes I've actually never drawn with them.
So I procrastinated on chores and drew Cotton Candy going on a walk. Ember decided to tag along. :>

EDIT: Just wanted to make it known that yes, Cotton Candy is female! I tend to draw hoof fluff on ponies regardless of gender.

Sigs & Site Support / What happened to the Classifieds?
« on: December 05, 2017, 09:02:29 AM »
Apparently I missed something during my absence...

When I clicked on the Classifieds page, all that appeared was the Arena forum list. Are the Classifieds still around? Do you need to be a member to view them now?

I know there used to be a thread concerning those, but I'm having a heck of a time finding it. :T

If someone could tell me what the sizes are, I'd appreciate it.

Customs / A few questions about custom sales
« on: May 08, 2017, 11:13:15 AM »
Although I'm aware that customizing should never be viewed solely as a business, I've been seeking to sell art - including my custom ponies - as a secondary source of income. Having never sold customs before, I have a few questions. This list may be expanded upon later - I'm off to lunch and trying to get this posted before I go. :)

• Is it better to sell premade customs or to accept commissions?

• If you accept commissions, how do you price them? Do prices vary on a case-by-case basis or is there a flat fee?

• How do you ship sculpted customs?

• What website(s) do you sell the most customs through?

• Do most customers prefer nylon or sculpted hair?

• What generations sell best?

Thank you for taking the time to read (and possibly respond.) ♥

Introductions / Hello, again ♥
« on: April 20, 2017, 10:20:24 AM »
Long time no see, Arena!

I've been pretty inactive over the past few months due to different work hours and general craziness. As it's been a while since I was actively involved in the community, a re-introduction might be a good idea.

Probably going to change my username soon, but for the time being I'm Sundown. Sunn, Sunny, or SD are all suitable nicknames. I'm a nineteen year-old girl who lives on a farm.

Ponies have been part of my life for a long time - over ten years! Despite varying interest in them, I've never been able to bring myself to jettison my whole collection. Favorites include Heartthrob, Mimic, Sweetheart Sisters, G2s and G3 Star Catcher. Not a big FiM fan, but Fluttershy, Big Mac, and Photo Finish have crept into my heart.

Outside of ponies, I love Fairy Tail birds, vintage Barbies, plush, American Girl dolls and most recently G2 Littlest Pet Shop. I'm also an avid multimedia artist, gamer, reader, and enjoy trail riding. Horses are dear to me. Someday I would love to try English riding, but for the time being I have my hands full with Western.

I used to run the mlp-heartthrob blog over on tumblr. The vintage collecting community was great, but as for the rest of the site? Toxicity was getting harder to avoid - IMO, despite the creativity found there, it wasn't worth the grief. The Arena has a far friendlier atmosphere. ♥

I'm looking forward to posting my artwork and craft projects here again! Hope to see some familiar faces and have a good time. :lovey:

Pony Corral / Question about GAH: Nightmare Moon figure
« on: November 09, 2016, 12:04:59 PM »
I want to purchase one of these for someone as a gift, but have a couple questions before doing so:

1. Will most Walmarts have these in stock by default? Or are they an online exclusive?

2. Furthermore, the Nightmare Moon on Walmart's website is listed as GAH: Shining Armor but with NM's picture. Is it a typo, or will I order it only to find it's actually Shining Armor?

Pony Corral / Do you prefer to buy ponies seperately or in lots?
« on: June 19, 2016, 08:56:34 AM »
I have several G1s and G3s I'd like to sell - no rare ones, but there are a few that are either popular or uncommon. (G3 Lavender Cloud, for example.) But I'm not sure if it would be better to list them in lots or one by one.

I don't expect to sell any until after the fair - I just want to know how to organize them ahead of time so I can have them ready to go when I do list them. c:

Pony Corral / 'Old' collectors: how have things changed?
« on: June 06, 2016, 09:12:30 AM »
I've often read old-timers' comments about remembering the old days of collecting, namely the '90s and early 2000s,and began to wonder: how has collecting changed over the years? How have prices changed? What were the highlights of the aforementioned time period?

I began collecting with my mom in late 2007 on the MLPTP under the username Hobomom and Mimic - I was Mimic, she was hobomom. So while I've seen a lot of people come and go, I'm still very much a nooblet to the hobby. Some things I remember are the famous customizers (not sure if I'm allowed to name names?), new G3 waves, and stuff like that.

I also remember that, due to my young age, I probably irritated most of the community at the time.  If anyone recalls that, sorry for making you put up with me!

So, what were your memories?

The Dollhouse / Who is this doll?
« on: May 14, 2016, 02:59:15 PM »
I found this doll at the thrift store yesterday, and despite scouring the internet I couldn't find any information on her.

She is a 1970 Horsman doll. Height is approximately 13"; she is made of plastic and has flat feet.
