Pony Corral / Show me your Paradise Estate displays!
« on: June 03, 2017, 10:04:14 AM »
Sooooo, guess who did something wild and bought Paradise Estate? XD

It was relatively cheap. 9.99 with $50 shipping, and the lot contains a fair number of its accessories (and a few accessories from ponies). Missing the patio and pool though, but hopefully I'll be getting those soon. Problem is, I bid knowing that I had absolutely no plan for how I would display it. And I've thought about it a few times, wondering what I would do if I were to acquire this beast of a playset.

So... looking for a little inspiration, and maybe some pics to get me excited for when it comes in. If you have Paradise Estate, if you have it displayed, I'd love to see it. :)

Pony Corral / No, not mold!
« on: April 01, 2017, 08:16:39 AM »
UGH.

So yesterday, to my horror, I was organizing the walk in closet that doubles as my pony room, and on the wall opposite where my ponies are displayed, down near the floor, was thick marbling of mold on the wall! I was able to get it all off with a bleach cleaner, but now I'm worried about my ponies. I took a quick look over them, but didn't spot anything alarming.

Do you think I should worry? I'm wondering what I can do to keep the mold at bay other than not pile so much stuff against that outside-facing wall, and clean it periodically. We normally keep that door to the closet closed, so I might try keeping it open more often to let it air out.

Pony Brag Arena / Oakley and Cuteasaurus (with Cha Cha)!
« on: March 27, 2017, 05:25:35 PM »
Oh my gosh.

I've been waiting to make a big announcement about this until they arrived, but... now I can't wait any longer now that they've arrived! I added Oakley and Cuteasaurus to my herd for just $20 and $25 via BIN on eBay, and I'm just so ecstatic! They look beautiful. Great symbols, lovely hair... When I opened the package I could hardly believe they were in my hands.

So here they are, pre-spa. And a final picture with Cha Cha, who I got a while ago in a large lot. Just need Edgar now!

Customs / Winger rehairing woes...
« on: March 25, 2017, 08:43:17 AM »
So, I'm completely rehairing a Glow right now (with Buzzer and Moonjumper on deck), and I'm finding that the tiny size of the head and neck is a real problem!

At the moment, I'm stuck at trying to get the last cut off stubble of the original hair out of the holes cleared away so I can get the new hair in. The plug makes the hole for the neck so tiny, there's very little I can fit in there. Anyone who has rehaired wingers have any tips to move this process along a bit?

Pony Brag Arena / Complete Flower Fantasy set! <3
« on: February 08, 2017, 02:34:38 PM »
I did it!

Thanks to a lot of luck and perseverance, I have all three of the Flower Fantasy ponies, and they're so lovely together!

Flowerbelle was my last one, bought for only about $25 including shipping. It was a close call, too. She came in from Canada and for about a week we thought the package might be lost! But one happy day she arrived safe and sound at home, and just as lovely as I knew she would be.

I never thought I'd complete this set so soon... none of them are CRAZY expensive, but I don't acquire ponies that are that pricey very often unless I'm lucky enough to get them at a good price. So it's a lovely surprise to be able to see all three together!

Every year, for my birthday, I treat myself to a pony that's a bit more expensive than ones I usually will casually buy on eBay or on the Arena. Past birthday ponies include Mimic, TAF Buttons, and Baby Princess Sparkle, and this year I completed my second set of princess ponies with Princess Taffeta. <3

I've been wanting her for so long as she's so lovely, and I really enjoy this set, and so I splurged to get her in really good condition. Having bad tinsel was a dealbreaker, and mine has nice tinsel and great hair.

Coincidentally I've been working on collecting the Slumber Party gift pack accessories, so I thought I'd combine them! I use one of the low bookshelves in our living room to showcase a rotating pony display since all my G1s live in a walk-in closet.

So, here's the princess slumber party!

Pony Corral / Rarity of Slumber party accessories?
« on: January 08, 2017, 07:59:54 AM »
So I've noticed that accessories from the Slumber Party gift pack come up for sale much more seldom than the Birthday Party pack accessories. Heck, I got an almost complete set of the Birthday Party accessories for only about $20, and I seldom see the Slumber Party stuff.

I just got the popcorn, TV, and cookies from Scarletjul but it seems hard to find anything from this set for a good price. Do I just have bad luck? They're such cute accessories but I find it hard to justify paying a lot for accessories when I still have quite a few actual ponies left to complete my G1 collection.

Price Check Archives / PC Remco Sea Pony with base
« on: October 05, 2016, 08:10:55 AM »
So, I'm in Brighton again for a few weeks visiting my husband's family, and I can never help but look around for ponies when I get the chance. While I've never found much at Snooper's Paradise it's hard to resist trying.

This time there was a basket of G3s (I got two), and in a locked cabinet a Remco Sea Pony, with her base. Her hair is very dry and she has a couple tiny spots of mold, but her other marks should clean up fine. For 6 pounds I couldn't pass her up. I know pricing fakies can be a bit tricky, but did I get a decent price? I told myself when I learned that Remco made sea ponies that if I ever saw one, I would be sure to pick one up.

(would anyone be interested in pictures?)

Pony Brag Arena / Five Year Collection Brag! (very pic heavy!)
« on: September 29, 2016, 04:34:41 PM »
It feels like a while since I started seriously collecting MLP shortly after Friendship is Magic began, and it brought me back to my enjoyment of My Little Pony. Since I bought a few G1s, thinking I would just select ones I really wanted. Since I joined the arena. Since I began scanning for great finds and deals, checking thrift shops at every chance for a treasure.

I've always had to make do with small spaces to curate my growing collection, and I've shared pictures of the walk-in closet that houses my G1s and G2s now (most of my G3s are packed away, and my G4s are in me and my husbands' bedroom atop the entertainment center). Here, I did my best to showcase how far my collection has come from buying a small lot of 3 Flutter ponies so that I could get my childhood ponies back, with a little extra attention to VIPs (Very Important Ponies). A lot of these are bought from Arena members, many more are from eBay and others finds from local charity shops. That comprises most of what I've got here, though there are the odd Craigslist finds and gifts from friends and family, too.

So here we go!

Pony Corral / How do you store/display your pony stickers?
« on: June 25, 2016, 03:24:10 PM »
So... I've had a small collection of the official stickers that came with ponies for a while. Maybe a handful? But recently I came into possession of 10 new ones stuck to a playset shell. If they are not on their backing, what's your recommended way to keep these organized and easy to see what you have? I'm kind of stuck (pun intended). :P I'd love all of your input!

Pony Corral / Int'l Princess Sparkle restored! (lotsa pics!)
« on: March 18, 2016, 05:03:54 PM »
So a little bit ago I posted about getting myself an International Princess Sparkle on eBay... kinda baity, kinda dirty, no "saddle" part... I've been dedicated to trying to get her looking lovely again, and I thought I'd show my results.

Here's how she arrived: ratty hair, tangled tinsel that had gotten snarled up in her crown and bow tie. A red stain on her face, and her battery cover saddle was missing. In addition, the contacts in her battery compartment were rusty. Still lots of beauty there, but lots of work to be done!

There was quite a bit to do. I gently scrubbed the red from her cheek, then carefully untangled her hair from her crown and bow tie.

I used boiling water, dryer sheets, conditioner and a curling iron set on low to tame her hair and tinsel.

Then, I set about replacing her saddle. The wonderful Nemubones gave me some great detailed shots of how it should look, and... while I'm not very good with sculpting and paint detail, I think I gave it a pretty good try. Overall I'm pleased with the result.

Tadah!

While her saddle replacement isn't perfect, I think it's a pretty good try for handmade. And in the end I think she looks wonderful and I'm proud to have her in my herd!

Pony Corral / Need detail of Int'l Princess Sparkle's saddle!
« on: March 10, 2016, 04:23:35 PM »
Hi! I know this is a pretty specific request, but...

I recently got a baity Euro Princess Sparkle for really cheap (around $9, shipping included!) and I'm well on my way to getting her looking beautiful again! She even lights up! But she's missing her saddle and I'm determined to try to make a new one for her out of air dry clay. I'm fairly decent with the stuff but I'm having a hard time finding good pictures of what it looks like, especially the way it "folds" at the top and the crown symbol on the sides.

If anyone who has her in their herd could help me out with some good reference pictures, I'd be really, really appreciative. And after this is done, there'll be some glorious before-and-after pictures! :3 Thanks in advance, everyone.

Price Check Archives / PC: Sea Mist, High Tide/Sunfading advice?
« on: February 05, 2016, 05:06:08 PM »
My great recent run of ebay luck is holding out into the new year! I snagged these two girls in two lots of $15 each. Now, they're not in superb condition, but I'm just happy to have them. I love Sea Ponies and now I have half of the more expensive Year 3 adult set.

A couple questions, for those who are good at appraising:

1) Can anyone put a vague value on what these girls are worth, in their condition? High Tide's a bit frizzy. Body is nice but has a faint age spot on one side. Sea Mist is covered in blemishes as well as purple and pink marks, but her hair is super silky. However, she has some little poke holes, especially around her face. Check the pictures. She still looks fairly nice to me, especially since I'm so happy just to have these in my herd.

2) Can the purple and pink marks on Sea Mist be safely sunfaded? If they could be lessened she'd look significantly better, but I'm not sure if she'd burn. Does anyone know?

Thanks guys! :D

Pony Corral / Oh no... I've started collecting accessories!
« on: January 27, 2016, 12:45:57 PM »
Oh dear, this could be the start of something both wonderful and fearful.

So, I recently finally got myself a copy of the G1 Collector's Inventory, and I had a wonderful time taking inventory of all the ponies and accessories and pony wear I have. Now that everything is checked off, I've been getting...

THE URGE.  :yikes:

I have a fair amount of accessories. Combs, baby stuff, etc. A few ribbons and most of the accessories to go with the playsets I have. But now I'd like to work on making my collection more complete. And so I was wondering, for those of you really keen on accessory collecting (I know a few of you already :P), what is the best way to get a hold of pony accessories, if I decided to buy a good number of them at a time? Right now I mostly have stuff that came with lots, stuff that just sort of found its way to me.

Thanks guys. :D
