Trader & Shipping Support / Partial Refund Fiasco
« on: October 03, 2014, 05:29:46 PM »
Here's what happened:

- Item's condition was grossly misrepresented by seller.
- Case opened; seller acknowledges and offers 50% refund of $120 purchase price.
- Seller is unable to refund as PayPal is holding funds.  Case escalated, eBay refunds me.  (I get $60 back)
- Seller's funds are released and she refunds me without realising eBay has already refunded me.  (I now have $120 back)
- Seller contacts me with invoice for the second refund, I pay immediately. (Seller has $60, I have $60)
- Seller also contacts eBay and they refund her a second time, however the funds are not taken from my account. (Seller has $120, I have $60)

My PayPal account has been empty so there would have been no funds to take anyhow.  My concern is that a) the funds will be taken from me again once I have money in my PayPal account and b) none of my business really but the seller has funds from eBay that she is not entitled to.

I can't get hold of eBay because they have closed the case following my refund.  How can I contact them to let them know about this situation?

Pony Corral / Where in the world... (help with G3 releases please)
« on: August 26, 2014, 04:52:09 PM »
I was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly where in the world the following ponies were released and if they were store exclusives, special events etc:
  • All three Art Ponies
  • Blank Pony (I know she was available online through the Hasbro site but was she sold in stores or anywhere else?)
  • Junko Mizuno Pony
  • All 2007 holiday ponies: Candy Heart, All My Heart, Fun Fairy, Lovely Ladybug, Snow'El II, Jolly Lolly, Mittens II, Flower Wishes, Morning Dawn Delight, Bashful Bonnet  - I originally thought these were store exclusives but can't find any evidence of this.  Were they sold outside the US?
  • 2008 Halloween ponies Scootaloo and Star Song
Many thanks.

MLP Nirvana / PC please - Alternate May Lily of the Valley - rehaired
« on: July 15, 2014, 12:59:59 AM »
Not sure if this should be here or on the Nirvana forum.  I'm sure this will be moved if my guess is wrong!

May I please have a PC on this girl - excellent condition aside from the rehair.

Customs / Seeking donor tails [both found, many thanks!]
« on: May 20, 2014, 12:23:04 AM »
The tea rose tail (matches Sundance and Cotton Candy) needs to be uncut and in very good to excellent condition.

The Sugarberry tail should be uncut but in played-with condition, not silky smooth!

Please let me know if you can help with either.  Thanks!

Both found, many thanks!

Pony Corral / Anniversary Retro Re-Release Ponies - G1 or G3?
« on: May 07, 2014, 08:41:22 PM »
I'm creating a spreadsheet to keep track of all my ponies, and using filters to categorise them into different groups.  For each entry, I'm assigning things like generation, year, pose, colour, condition.  But I'm not sure what generation to assign to the retro re-releases!  Are they G1s as they are reproductions of G1 characters, or are they G3s because they were produced in the G3 years?

No right or wrong answers here, but I'm curious to know what you all think.

Night Glider is in very poor condition. You name it, she has it. She has bite marks, cancer, I have rehaired a couple of plugs on her mane, her eyes are slightly scratched, she has been treated for tail rust and her washer has been replaced with a plastic one, and finally, when I removed her head, I accidentally cut through the plug. So her head is fixed on with super glue. More pics:

Yum Yum is in reasonable condition. I have also managed to sunfade out a couple of marks but some still remain. She has a red dot on her forehead, another on her DS wing and a faded pink mark on her chest. She also has a scrape to the blush on her DS - this is an actual scrape to the plastic, not a blush rub. Her hair has faded to white. She had extensive pindot which I have now removed. More pics:

Up, Up & Away is in poor condition. Her major flaws include a scrape to her symbol and a large rub to her DS eye. Additionally, her tail is dry, her hair is faded and her forelock seems to be a few plugs thicker than it ought to be - I think someone may have cut a few extra plugs of her mane to forelock length. Also, there is some pindot to the undersides of her hooves and some larger pockmarks which I believe may be factory bubbles in the plastic. Finally, she has a little trouble standing.  More pics:

This is a follow-up to my post in which I was initially worried about a zero-feedback buyer.  When I decided (against my gut feeling) to allow the bid to remain, the bid won and the buyer issued a chargeback just days after the item was shipped, claiming unauthorised use of her credit card.  I have no doubt in my mind that the chargeback was fraudulent.

I advise everyone to add the eBay account "iciloo" to their block list. *edited out names due to privacy concerns* PL

If you're interested in the details of how I got my money back, read below.
Spoiler
I responded to the initial claim with a photo of the addressed parcel with postage attached, and a photo of the receipt as proof of postage.  The claim was then moved on to the buyer's credit card company to investigate, with PayPal disputing the chargeback on my behalf.  It took around a month before I finally received an email with the outcome:

Hello foalpatrol,

As you know, we have been using the information you provided to dispute a
chargeback filed against the transaction detailed below. Despite our best
efforts, the buyer's credit card company decided in favor of the buyer.

Unfortunately, we do not control the outcome of the chargeback decision
reached by the buyer's issuing bank in a credit card transaction. By
accepting the terms of the PayPal User Agreement, you agreed to accept the
decision of the issuing bank as final and legally binding for this type of
dispute.

So I sent an email to the buyer in a last-ditch effort to recover my item; and another email to PayPal.  The one to the buyer said:

Hi XXX,

I am the seller of the item "XXX" on eBay.

I am sorry to hear that the transaction was unauthorised by you. Should
the item arrive, please let me know so you can arrange to send it back
to me at the return address listed on the parcel.  If the item has not
arrived, could you please make a statement by return email to confirm
that it has not arrived so I can make a claim with the post office.

Kind regards,
foalpatrol

Needless to say, I haven't had a reply from her.  The email to PayPal (I didn't save it so I'm paraphrasing) said that I did not agree with the decision and that I wished to appeal it.  I said I wanted to take it higher and asked for the buyer's credit card company so I could take it up with them directly.  (I was given no information about the credit card company's decision - there was no explanation as to why they found in the buyer's favour, and I could not see any of the information that she had provided to them.)  I went on to say that I did not have my item or my money, and to add insult to injury, I was charged a fee by her credit card company for the dispute resolution, when I had done nothing wrong and could do nothing to prevent it.  Finally, I asked why my evidence of postage was deemed insufficent.  I said that the receipt for postage and a photo of the parcel, addressed and with postage attached, would be acceptable evidence in a court of law, so why is it unacceptable as proof for this transaction?  I wasn't expecting anything to come of that email, but at the same time I was not going to just sit here and take it, I promised myself when it first happened that I would fight it as far as I could.  So I was stunned when this email came back:

Dear foalpatrol,
Thank you for contacting PayPal Customer Support.
I have reviewed the documents that you supplied, and I do agree that you should be covered for this transaction.
I am going to refund you the amount of the purchase along with the fee that the credit card company charged you.
You will see this refunded to your PayPal account in the next 72 hours.

So, the money has been refunded in full, even without the PayPal fees being deducted.  The victory is bittersweet, however, since the scammer was not stopped, she is likely to go out and do the same thing to someone else, and the loss was simply passed on to PayPal.

My advice to anyone in a similar situation:
  • Take a photo of the addressed parcel with postage attached, and keep your receipt - this is what saved my bacon.
  • Be polite and reasonable in all your communication with PayPal and eBay.
  • Never give up - even if you're told you have no chance, keep on fighting.  You only have no chance if you don't try.
  • Don't accept a decision as final if it's not in your favour.  Question it and request to appeal.
  • Trust your gut - if you think a bidder is going to cause problems, remove the bid.
  • Insist that all low-feedback bidders have their item sent tracked.

Trader & Shipping Support / Just a quick question about US post codes
« on: January 05, 2014, 08:09:01 AM »
On ebay, in my buyer's address, the post code is provided like this:  12345-6789

But on the print postage page (not that I can print postage anyway because I live in New Zealand, but I was just looking) it's the exact same address except the postcode is provided like this:  12345

So what's the -6789 bit, and is it necessary?

I have over 50 feedback from buying but this is my first time selling on ebay.  A buyer with 0 feedback has bid on one of my auctions.  I'm a little concerned that I could be taken advantage of - especially since paypal holds the money for a certain length of time with new sellers.  Does the buyer get instantly refunded if he/she claims that the item was damaged or didn't arrive?  Any thoughts or advice?  Do I have any recourse if the buyer is dishonest?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

SO this is what happened next.  I get this email from Paypal:

We were recently notified that one of your buyers filed a chargeback and
asked the credit card issuer to reverse a payment made to you on 30/12/2013.

The buyer claims that this purchase was made without authorization to use
the credit card. Their credit card issuer needs additional information from
you about this transaction.

Kicking myself for not just removing the bid.  Now the item is in the post and I don't think I'll ever see it again or the money.  Anyone had this happen?

Pony Brag Arena / Most amazing Christmas RAOPK!
« on: December 13, 2013, 05:02:12 PM »
This gorgeous girl arrived today from my pony friend Endocat.  I fell in love with her when I was at Endocat's house and couldn't put her down.  Endocat had listed her for sale a couple of times but I didn't have the funds to buy her at the time, and when she stopped listing her, I assumed she had been sold.  Imagine my surprise when I looked in my mailbox today and found her there, wrapped in Christmas paper  Was fully bawling my eyes out when I realised it was her underneath the bubble wrap!  And I still can't put her down.  Love this pony.

By the way, she's also my first Argie.  Do you know how dangerous that is?

Off Topic / Pokemon Card Experts Please Come Here!
« on: December 09, 2013, 07:35:26 AM »
My brother is really into Pokemon cards and I'd like to get him some (or even just one really special one) for Christmas.  Problem is, I know nothing about them.  I'm looking on Trade Me http://www.trademe.co.nz/ and I'm wanting to spend around $30.  Would you Pokemon card experts be able to point me towards an auction or two on that site in my price range that would make a great present?
