Pony Corral / Anyone tried Wal-Mart price match on Ponies?
« on: November 08, 2013, 04:24:06 AM »
So, Wal-Mart's price match. They seem to be calling it something a bit different for the holidays, but oh well.

I've never used it, but it sounds like you have to bring in the competitor's circular to prove the price. What if you don't have the circular (or the store doesn't make one)? It says Internet prices aren't good enough proof, so I'm guessing that even if the store's website has the same price as the brick-and-mortar store, showing the website wouldn't be acceptable.

Is there any other way to verify the price so Wal-Mart will price match it? It could sure be a useful tool to get Pony merchandise cheaper sometimes!

Pony Corral / Best price for Equestria Girls two-pack?
« on: November 06, 2013, 12:48:23 PM »
I really want the set with Twilight and Sunset, but I can't see myself paying $30. I thought I remembered some stores charging around $26, which I'd prefer since that would be the price of two single dolls, but I can't think what store that would have been or if it was just a temporary sale. I saw the Target coupon mentioned here on the Arena, and I went to their site to see how much they charged for the two-pack to determine if the coupon would be much of a deal if I used it on that, but they didn't have it listed on their site. Blah.

So ... does anyone know of a store that's charging less than $29.95 for the set? Or is that the best price and I'll have to bite the bullet and get it for that?

Or I suppose I could wait and see if there will be any good sales on it over the next few weeks.... But there's no guarantee I'll see much of it the closer we get to Christmas.

Pony Corral / Owning more than one plush of a character?
« on: November 05, 2013, 08:30:20 AM »
So I know there's people who love to buy more than one figure of a character (and when they're in different lines, like Playful and Fashion Style, it makes perfect sense to me). But what about plushies, which are generally more expensive and certainly take up more room than figures? (And which sentimental fools like me consider "buddies" more than figures.)

I have the greatest struggle getting past what I feel is the illogic of owning more than one plushie of a character, even if the plushies are different. I have one of the old talking Twilights and I love her so much. But since Twilight is my favorite, I've sort of entertained the thought of a Build-A-Bear version too. But then I didn't feel the Build-A-Bear version was really that much different in size (she seemed bigger the first time I saw her as opposed to the second time). And the issues I had with finding messed-up tails on every single one available, as described in another post, didn't help my opinion any.

I think I still kind of want the Build-A-Bear version, but since the brushable hair is just about the main attraction to me, I don't like having to resort to getting one with a tangled tail and glue stuck in it. Aside from that problem, though, I still have to battle my own doubts and dislikes of owning two of the same character. And I suppose I wish the price was a little cheaper, even though I guess $25 is pretty good for a plush of that size.

If it was Luna, or another character I didn't have that I wanted, I don't think even the screwy tail would have stopped me. Which means it's this other hang-up that's really stopping me.

So, does anyone else have the issue of owning more than one plush of a character? And have you wanted and tried to get past that? How?

Pony Corral / Build-a-Bear Ponies' tails
« on: November 04, 2013, 11:30:59 AM »
So I was at the local Build-A-Bear and must have gone through every available Twilight. The tails were all tangled, and worse, most seemed to have glue stuck in them! Oy vey. The manes were all okay, though.

Is that normal for the Build-A-Bear Ponies' tails?

Pony Corral / Durability of Equestria Girls dolls?
« on: October 29, 2013, 01:42:49 AM »
So while I probably will never collect the whole Equestria Girls line, I'm so nuts about Twilight that I'd like to have at least one of every incarnation of her. I was seriously considering picking up her doll tonight at Wal-Mart, but I keep being deterred by how small and out of proportion the dolls' arms are and how big the heads are. Then I tipped the box and happened to, well, look up Twilight's skirt. It looked to me like the legs and hips were awfully small and close together and cheaply done, nothing like the stronger-looking hips on dolls in days gone by.

So my question is, how durable are these dolls? Are the legs stronger than they look or do they tend to break off at the hips? Not that I'd be playing rough with them, but if the legs are liable to break off in my hand while simply holding or posing them, I would probably decide to pass.

Pony Corral / How do you tell them apart?!
« on: August 16, 2013, 04:53:40 PM »
Whenever I see Tumbleweed and Milkweed, I am always puzzled at how the posters seem to know exactly which one is which. I've heard they're identical twins, so what's the magic secret in figuring out Tumble from Milk?

Pony Corral / List of Softies/G1 Plushies?
« on: August 11, 2013, 08:21:45 PM »
I'm amazed by how many G1 plushies/softies there are. I wonder why I never knew about them as a kid. Has anyone composed a list of all the characters released in this form?

So it's the end of June ... and the Applejack and Octavia plushies are still no-shows in my area. This is ridiculous! Are they popping up any better anywhere else yet?

I'm starting to wonder if Applejack merchandise is just destined to be rare everywhere. I haven't seen her Crystal Empire figure in weeks.

Or do you figure that one plushie per character is enough, even though each company makes different-looking plushies?

I usually only like having one plushie per character, unless there's something really unique and/or appealing about another company's plushie. I wanted a Twilight Sparkle when there wasn't a lot of choice, and I chose the talking one because she seemed the most show-accurate of what was around and also because it just seemed too geekily fun to have Twilight talk and sing to me. I have no particular desire to have another Twilight plush, but I'm collecting the Funrise plushies of the other characters. I may or may not get the Alicorn Twilight plush; I still don't like the idea of her being an alicorn, so I haven't decided whether I'll get any of that merchandise.

On the other hand, I have two Shadow the Hedgehogs because they're vastly different in size and appearance. I just wish my big one was furry. I don't understand why a lot of plushies these days aren't furry. I'm glad the Ponies are!

Pony Corral / G3 foot magnets
« on: April 25, 2013, 12:19:34 PM »
Anyone know if the G3 Ponies with magnets are safe to have near electronics like CDs and computers? I just got my first G3 and I adore her, but I don't want to accidentally cause some of my stuff to get erased from having her too close to any of it. I don't know if those magnets are strong enough to do any real damage.

Pony Corral / Autumn Ponies!
« on: April 21, 2013, 01:28:10 PM »
How many were there? I know about Autumn Skye, Autumn Crisp, Autumn (who really doesn't have autumny colors!), and I think Gusty qualifies too (even though she looks like the poster child for not only autumn, but Christmas). Halloween Ponies also count!

The Dollhouse / PC on Sailor Moon 11.5" Irwin America dolls
« on: April 17, 2013, 03:27:06 PM »
I think it's the Irwin America---the ones that came in either yellow or light blue boxes and had visible noses? ;)

I don't collect dolls as a general rule, but I love Sailor Moon and off and on have longed to have more of the Irwin America dolls. Since eBay is overpriced on Ponies, I'm wondering if they're overpriced on Sailor Moon dolls, too. The MIB Irwin America dolls, the 11.5" ones, seem to invariably go for around $50 each now. Is that what they should be priced as?

I have the dilemma of several things: 1, I'm not sure I want to spend $24 to get Rainbow or Pinkie when I have the Funrise releases and am okay with them; 2, Still, I want to support Build-A-Bear in their Pony activities so they will hopefully make more characters; 3, Neither Rainbow or Pinkie are particularly favorite characters of mine; 4, I've heard the BAB versions are bigger than the Funrise ones, and in any case, I love their hair. And I'm impressed by the pictures I've seen of the BAB plushies.

So, what is everyone doing, BAB plushie-wise? Especially if Rainbow and Pinkie aren't among your favorite characters, either. Would you still get them (or one of them)? Or have you gotten them already?

(I like Pinkie better than Rainbow, usually, although I am very impressed by BAB Rainbow's wings....)

I don't know why, but for me it would be the G1 Sundae Best Ponies, to represent the late eighties/early nineties. I think friends of mine must have had some of them, even though I don't remember, and that's at least one reason why I feel so extremely nostalgic about them even though I don't have any (yet). For some reason, their 3-D marks and the fact that they're sundae-themed makes me think more strongly of that particular era of time than any of the other G1 Ponies. Maybe fake food in general was a common thing I played with around that time? Or maybe it's because of Strawberry Scoops' sundae (which I have but don't know the location of at the moment).

Pony Corral / G1 Pony Books?
« on: April 11, 2013, 04:03:27 PM »
Does anyone own any of the G1 Pony books? I'm wondering if there's any that feature Sugarberry as a main character. I know she was on the cover of at least one, but that doesn't mean she appeared much. Seems like she only turned up in the U.K. comics for a panel or two each comic!
