Pony Corral / mispackaged Fun at the Fair set
« on: April 14, 2012, 04:36:04 AM »
Regarding that mispackaged Fun at the Fair set that has Sweetie Belle and SCOOTALOO instead of APPLE BLOOM:  Is that set hard to find?  Has it been found in the US?

Yum-yum has been nice enough to consolidate a whole lotta ponies that I've bought from various Dutch collectors over the last several months.  I'm definitely getting tracking for the package, and it's going to be expensive enough that I think it's worth insuring.  Will that mean that I'll be hit with a big ol' duty fee?  Does anyone know how this works from experience?

I actually called US Customs with my questions.  They weren't sure if there would be a duty fee for toys like this, but they seemed to think that, even if there was one, it wouldn't be insanely expensive.  Even a $50 fee wouldn't upset me tooooooo much, but I really hope it won't be more than that.

What's in this awesome package, you're wondering?  Some pretty good stuff:  MOC G2 Copper Glow, MOC G2 Prince Firefly, MOC G2 Lady Elegant, lavender Woosie, Dad Berrytown, 4 Dutch ponies, and numerous other ponies and items.  So, yeah, I definitely don't want this package to get lost or damaged.

I also asked Customs if there was anything I could do to prevent the ponies from being damaged in case the box was opened for inspection (remembering past horror stories I've heard, including the recent ones about Venezuelans).  They didn't seem to have any advice other than to file a claim against damages if they were ripped apart.  But I also asked if it would help if I wrote a note explaining that they were vintage toys and asking them not to damage the items; they said it might help.

Does anyone else have any other advice about getting international package safely though Customs?  And preferably without spending more than necessary?

And should I declare the full value of the items in case I do need to file a claim?

Thanks everyone!  And a big thanks to yum-yum for consolidating this package for me!

Pony Corral / number of Arena members?
« on: March 27, 2012, 08:44:52 PM »
I have to write about an organization of which I am a member for one of my classes.   :P   Blech!  Don't feel like writing about work.  Haven't really been very active with sports lately, so I guess I shouldn't talk about that either.  So I think I'll write about the Arena!

How many members are there total?  And how many are currently active (have put in some sort of appearance within the last, oh, I dunno, say 6 months or so)?

MLP Nirvana / Gusty variant with PURPLE streak???
« on: March 06, 2012, 10:52:56 PM »
I've been meaning to make a post about my possible Gusty variant for a while now.  I got her a long time ago from someone in the Midwest who mostly collects Breyers; I don't think she knew much about ponies.  She said she found this Gusty at a garage sale.

As you can see, her streak is purple instead of the usual red.  Other than that, she looks like the normal American Gusty.  Her hind feet are stamped c '84 HASBRO PAT. PEND. and HONG KONG.

There are a few things that make me think she's a real factory variant:  The first is the messy plugs inside.  When ponies are rehaired, the plugs usually look much neater inside, right?  Originally, I wasn't planning to open her up just to prove her authenticity, but her head was already loose.  But I still don't think she was rehaired because the old glue was still clinging around her neck, and I think if she's been rehaired that old glue would have been peeled off.

The ends of her mane also show just a little bit of age and wear, and the purple streak is no different.  I wouldn't call it dry, just not fresh.

And there are a few other weird things too:  As you can see in the second pic, the purple steak is actually a little longer than the rest of her mane.  Looks like sort of a bad factory job.

And finally, the ends of her purple streak are even, but, you know, not super duper even.  By that I mean that they don't look like they were all cut straight across with a pair of scissors.  The plugs closer to her ears are actually just a bit shorter.

So what do you think?  Is she the real deal?

Pony Corral / head-body mismatch on G3 Euro Breezie Willow Wisp?
« on: March 06, 2012, 06:51:29 AM »
There's a G3 Euro Breezie Willow Wisp that I'm thinking of buying.  (She's yellow, if that helps you figure out which one I'm talking about.)  She has a pretty noticable head-body mismatch.  Normally I pass on ponies with faults like that, but I know it's actually normal for some ponies.  I don't want to say "I'll wait for a better one" if a perfect speciman doesn't exist.  So is it normal for this pony to have a head-body mismatch?

MLP Nirvana / Princess Serena slight variant
« on: March 06, 2012, 04:57:38 AM »
OK, so about a week ago I mentioned that I had a weird bubblegum pink haired version of Princess Serena with a slight variation.  The little jewels around the edge of her symbol are green on her DS and purple on her NDS.  I promised PKW that I'd get around to posting pics.  I'm done with finals now, so here they are!

Pony Corral / ID please Baby Princess Sparkle's lace ribbon
« on: March 06, 2012, 12:09:06 AM »
I'm pretty sure that this is the lace ribbon from Baby Princess Sparkle.  Can you guys help me confirm?  Thanks!  I have this playset from my childhood collection (in storage) and don't need it, so it will be available for sale or trade for another HTF accessory.

OK, I can't get this to work.  I have the images in my photobucket album.  I can even see the thumbnails in the "attachments" section of my post.  What do I have to do to get them to upload in the thread?

OK, after much hand holding and help from members on the shoutbox, I'm finally getting pics.  Here we go:

Please see my for sale/trade thread:

I'd like to trade Baby Princess Sparkle's lace ribbon for another HTF accessory.

I also have Secret Surprise Stardazzle's purple beaded heart bracelet.  I'd like to trade it for Secret Star's white beaded heart bracelet.

And I have an extra Fashion Style Rarity prototype with blue and purple hair.  I'd like to trade her for one of the white Fashion Style Celestia prototypes.  The ones I'm looking for are both white winged unicorns with Celestia's symbol.  One version has Celestia's eyes and blue and purple hair, and the other has Rarity's eyes and two-toned purple hair.

I'm also getting an extra variant that looks like Pinkie Pie with Cherry Pie's symbol.  I'd like to trade her for another prototype that I don't have.

Thanks!

MLP Nirvana / Does Mexi Applejack have a forelock?
« on: February 24, 2012, 04:23:45 PM »
I just won her, and she looks to be in great condition.  She has a forelock that looks factory-cut; it's about the right length and thickness.  But some Mexi's have forelocks and some don't, and I can't tell from other gallery images if it's really supposed to be there or not.

MLP Nirvana / Peruvians with short manes?
« on: February 06, 2012, 05:45:06 AM »
I keep seeing some Peruvians (like unicorn Bow-Tie) with short manes.  At first I figured that they'd been trimmed.  But now that I've seen several that are all like that I'm starting to wonder if short manes are normal for some Peru ponies.  Can anyone enlighten me?  Are there several that are like that?

Pony Corral / cleaning dirt from So Soft ponies
« on: January 27, 2012, 01:25:32 AM »
So I've gotten some really nice So Soft ponies lately with great flocking, like a barely-played-with Bouncy and a display-only Twilight.      But Bouncy still has some light surface dust/dirt, and Twilight has some dirty patches from who-knows-where (looks like maybe some dirt got into her bubble before she was decarded).  So are there any suggestions for cleaning them?  I don't want to just grind the dirt/dust in farther.  (Bouncy especially looks like the dust is just on the outer tips of her fuzz, while Twilight's looks like it goes in deeper.)  I don't want to immerse either of them in water; I think that causes flocking to sort of roll up into little balls of fuzz.  And they've got great original curl (I don't think Twilight has ever really been brushed), so I don't want to touch it or get it wet.

MLP Nirvana / combs for Peru Firefly and peg Blossom
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:31:15 AM »
I saw MOC Peru Firefly on Ebay a while ago.  And now that the gallery's back up I can see another one along with MOC Blossom as a pegasus.  Is it just me or do the combs that come with them look like Rose Petal Place combs?

MLP Nirvana / Brazil Shady's body color?
« on: January 26, 2012, 06:07:02 AM »
Is Brazil Shady about the same color as UK NSS Shady, the same bright magenta pink?  Or is Brazil Shady more orangish?  (Maybe she often fades to orangish?)  Thanks!

Pony Corral / restoring MO Li'l Sweetcake: tail rust and removing head
« on: January 17, 2012, 12:26:02 AM »
I just got a very nice Li'l Sweetcake for a pretty good price, yay!  Her condition is great, but she has the beginnings of tail rust.  I've heard that toothpaste is good for cleaning rust, so I'd like to try it by removing her head and cleaning inside.  Sweetcake is a Peek-a-Boo Baby, so she doesn't have a neck seal since her head is designed to turn.  Can I just pop it off?  Will I be able to pop it back in without causing any damage?  Sweetcake is a fairly hard-to-find mail order G1 (she's one of the little unicorn sisters), so I don't want to risk damaging her.  The rust is quite minor and I could actually live with it.
