she unfortunately has a good chunk of molded hair on the back of her head.

can I shave that off? - how thick is the plastic of her head?
what's the best way to get into these heads for rerooting?
if you have any photos of the process please share!

The molded hair is unfortunate. I haven't done any G5s so I can't help.
-
I don't know if it's gonna be the same, but I know someone customized Hitch and there was a rectangular "trench" like you might see on brushable model horses for his moulded mane.

I don't know what's wrong with hasbroken that is causing them to do this? But it looks awful. Poor Misty.
My advice, have a back up Misty in advance just in case removing that yields unfavorable results. Good luck.

the g5's are just horrid.
i've personally stopped collecting mlp my self.
the customer who ordered this is a regular and i want to do right by them.
i enjoy a challenge but i was not expecting this.
even they were surprised when I showed the photos.
as none of the product stock photos show that huge lump of plastic.

houston we have a problem.
soooooo, the plastic is a bit thin in places.
i'm using silicone on the inside of the head to reinforce it where its too thin.

what left dose stick out a bit but its not super bad .... im not confident to take this particular one down any further tho.
i've allready put a small hole in her ^^;
-
I'm glad that it didn't leave a gaping hole on top of her head. I'll be interested to see her finished up.
-
Good job!
-
the hair I've ordered for her is going to take a while to arrive so next update wont be for a while yet.
the silicone is cured now and feels nice and firm

update time~
i just got home from housesitting for a friend for a week so haven't been able to do much until now.
pulling the body apart on these ponys is disturbingly easy.
remove the 2 screws and she comes apart without any effort at all.

Looking better already.

I can't imagine having to deal with the plastic hair in back! One more reason why I don't plan to buy any of the current generation. It looks like you are making progress. Good luck finishing this custom!
-
Wow, they completely come apart. That's... interesting.

Looking fabulous so far!

Pretty colors

Oh wow, her hair is so cool.

Wow, she looks great! Molded hair on toys is so annoying - I was dealing with this recently while trying to find a Ken doll to use for a custom, and I just decided to opt for one with rooted hair in the end to save the headache. I'm impressed you were able to get the molding off.
