Title: repainting princess pony symbols?
Post by: milkywaymochi on May 16, 2023, 07:00:35 AM
Just got the lovely Princess Tiffany/Pearl, which I'm very happy about  I got her cheap because although she's in fairly good condition otherwise, one of her symbols has lost pretty much all of its silver paint completely, while curiously the other one's fine, so your guess is as good as mine as to whatever happened there. her damaged symbol is on her non display side, so I'm not too concerned with making it look *exactly* right if you see what I mean, I'd just like to give it a bit of a repaint for my own benefit. does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of silver paint I need, any specific brands for techniques I should use? this isn't my first pony restoration by a long shot but it is my first time doing repainting work on a pony, so I'm a little nervous haha

The model car paints would do well, lotsa metallic colors. Although I suppose any silver paint would suffice.

You want to use acrylic water based paint. Folk Art, don't know if that's a brand you can get in England, has very nice metallic colors, but really any cheap craft paint that's silver will be fine.

This is alcohol based, but maybe a chrome metallic paint? https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/chrome-paints/1429-chrome-paint.html (https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/chrome-paints/1429-chrome-paint.html) . with a base coat, this should work on the harder plastic of the 3d symbol.

or you could have a go with nail foil. I think if you did a base layer with say, tacky mod podge, you could adhere the foil to that. :)
