Title: How to display seaponies?
Post by: kingluke on April 08, 2022, 10:36:56 AM
Hello everyone,

I have a bunch of baby seaponies and a couple adults. I've tried displaying them in homemade stands (from cardboard) but it ruined one of them :(. I know there are fancy resin ones, hqcg1 shells and of course the original floats  and such. I'm not looking for expensive pieces like that.

I have some monster high stands I could use to make new ones but I'd rather hear from you how you display your seaponies.

Any ideas are welcome :)

I've seen someone display baby sea ponies in egg cartons.

I display mine in glass jars that I decorated with sea themed stickers and glass rocks in the bottom.  I use the fruit and yogurt jars you find in the grocery store sometimes. Jam and sauce jars are good for adults. Could also buy some at art n crafts shops.

I've also seen someone display their ponies in a terrarium/aquarium.

I know PinkKittyWinks makes some stands out of resin and lists them on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/shadowonthemoon?section_id=25823842).

I just kind of let them lay on their sides. It would be a fun project to make some stands myself out of clay. :)

Thank you for sharing my link TRT

I related the stands out of a nescesity to display my own ponies.

I saw a neat display using egg cups/egg stand :) The ponies fit really nice and it could have been painted to fit a seapony theme.

You could make your own stands from airdry clay or fimo if you feel crafty.

I would probably try cutting up cardboard toilet or kitchen paper tubes into rings. If they fit I would then cut strips of white acid free tissue paper and wrap the rings neatly to make them look clean and white. I don't have any other plastics, paints or coloured items stored near my ponies so my displays tend to be quite sparse or quite simple. Ceramic or glass egg cups would be nice though, I agree.

Edit: Full disclosure the toilet roll thing doesn't work! They just fall over. Wirth a try.

I saw someone display baby sea ponies using clear plastic dome lids, like you’d find at 7-11 for Slurpees.

Amazon has some.  Just look up “plastic dome lids”. You can cut your own hole to size.  You could also put some kind of decorations inside the lid(glass pebbles, lights, plastic crinkle wrap, bubble wrap, fabric, etc). As long as it doesn’t have dyes or paint that could bleed into the pony, you could do all sorts of things.

You’ll probably need something more substantial for the adult sea ponies though:/

Well...it's not exactly glamorous, but I have the 3 baby sea ponies I own crammed upright into an extra bathtub that I have from the Lullaby Nursery. It works, and bonus points for the fact that my kids think it's hilarious.

I like the idea of the clear lids from slurpee containers filled with lights...if I ever get a real place to display my stuff, I might make those.

I’ve always wanted to put mine into the pony bathtub! The one with the shower head and sea pony accents. Just a whole bunch of baby sea ponies crammed in there!

Other than that, I’m thinking of finding a way to suspend the sea ponies from clear filament or fishing line using the drainage hole in their heads. Then I want to buy a cute fish tank or pretty glass jar (both would need a lid) and deck it out with gravel or flat marbles and a few fake plants to make a sea pony aquarium. I’d suspend the ponies in fun poses from the lid! I wouldn’t actually fill it with water, of course.

Haven’t tried this yet but I’ve been thinking about it! If anyone feels inspired, I’d love to see what you do.

i've displayed mine in small glass candle holders. sometimes i'll put their floats on if i have them. but i don't think that's good for them long term.
