This is long overdue. I started working on it about 6 months ago but then lost my art mojo. I didn't pick it back up until yesterday.
Back in September, I lost my older sister to lung cancer. It happened so quickly. In truth, I'm still grieving but I think more about the good times, so it's not too bad. I started this pony as a memorial to her, for myself. I use art as an outlet and it's something I needed to do.
The bait is my sister's favorite color, seafoam green. It had been sitting in my prepped baits box for a long time. It's one of those ponies with the harder plastic and the head turns. I hung onto it, waiting to have a use for it.
My sister loved the beach and birds. I knew I had to represent that somehow.

The base is made from polymer clay with real sand on half of it and sculpted water on the other.

My sister always wanted to get a tattoo of a feather turning into birds, so that's what the symbol is. I decided to sculpt it rather than paint because I have a bad tremor and can't paint tiny details anymore but I can still sculpt. I made it a little too big. The birds are very basic  I painted over the black clay with color shift paint that goes from blue to purple in the light and some pearlized pigment.

My sister was blonde and she never had braids, ever. Since she was going through chemo, all her hair fell out. But a short time after she passed I had a very vivid dream with her and her hair was in two beautiful braids (more like french braids on each side). In the dream I said to her that she had her hair back ^.^ Like I said, this dream was super vivid, almost lucid and whenever I think about my sister, I see her like this. It's much better than remembering her losing her hair.
The braids on the pony are also very basic and one is thicker than the other  But in the back they connect to make a heart and it just happened that way, which I like :)

I did repaint her eyes green but I kept the original lashes due to not being able to paint them anymore. (and I forgot to gloss them ^^; )
Thanks for looking

That pony is really beautiful, and such a lovely memorial for your sister. It definitely shows your love for her...it brings a tear to my eye  The feather/birds symbol is a very cool idea and also well executed, as is the beach base.
Hugs to you!

What a beautiful tribute to your sister. I especially love the mane braid-style and the sculpted base and symbol, and how you chose the tattoo that she wanted. I think your sister would have loved her.
I teared up a little reading what you wrote about wanting to remember her with hair...I can so relate! I'm in the midst of treatments currently, and I have made it my goal that my kids and husband not see me without hair...not ever. I want to be remembered how I looked before by them should the worst happen. I think your sister would be honored by your decision to give her the blond braids. I hope that you are doing okay, and that making her brought you a little bit of peace and healing.

She's so beautiful! I remember you posting on PI how you made the water and that was ingenious.
A lovely memorial for your sister, I'm sorry for your loss.

She's so beautiful, not just because of all you have put into creating her. I've never seen that hair style on a pony before, what a great idea. I love the colour combinations and how the sparkle in the pony is picked up by the sparkle in the symbol.
