Title: G1 to G5 Custom - Locket (Glass Eye Attempt)
Post by: tailrustedtealeaf on February 03, 2022, 09:45:08 AM
I've been tempted by the LPS customs on Instagram with glass eyes to give it a swing myself. The G5 face molds lend themselves perfectly to having glass eyes!

Since Valentine's Day was coming up and I wanted to see how well it would mirror a Twinkle Eye, I chose Locket:

She started out as a Fashion Style Zipp Storm, the one with glitter all over her wings. I took the glitter off (to the best of my ability/sanity...), and repainted her with an airbrush. Her wings were done by hand. I think the multi-color wings are such a fun aspect of G5! Twinkle Eyes have such fun color palettes, they're perfect for translating to this gen.

The hair is Shimmerlocks Cotton Candy, Powder Puff, Blossom, and Cantaloupe. The tinsel is Sulky Holoshimmer Light Silver thread (can't find my got-dang clear thread, but this matches the bits in her eyes). Her eyes are UV resin with acrylic for the whites, and painted with pink for the irises. There's some glitter in there and the little flower charm is actually from Michaels! They had a small UV resin section with little bits like this.

I really want to get my hands on another one of these bases. My favorites are the Pegasi for sure, their wings make it so fun to paint them! I just wish there were Zipps sold singularly without all that glitter all over the wings. It's removable, but a paiiiin.

I had also originally intended for the glass eyes to be just for Twinkle Eyes, but I don't like painting eyes...and I REALLY like how these look...

Wow such a cool idea! Did you use doll eyes for her or did you make them yourself to fit the pony?

Also that blush and gradient on her hooves is so cute!

I cut out the eyes first just using an exacto. Because her eyes were about even, I followed the factory eyes. Then I made the eyes seperate, and popped them into her head through her neck area (which I cut open to remove the hair). It's a bit tricky to arrange them, so I used a tissue or paper towel behind the eyes to hold them in place while I poured some more resin on top and then set it to cure. It's not the most stable, probably because there's no proper backing, but she's just sitting on a shelf, so!

I made them myself! You can get eye molds off Amazon. :)

She looks awesome!!!  I'm not familiar with that eyeball technique at all, but I do like the look.  And her hair, gradient, symbol, wings, all look wonderful!
