Title: Acetone
Post by: lovelauraland on June 11, 2021, 07:14:00 AM
Anyone have a specific make of acetone they use to clean their ponies, specifically to remove cutie marks off bait ponies?
I’m having trouble finding a good one at a reasonable price.

Thank you x

Acetone is a chemical compound so unless something has been added (as in nail polish removers), they should all be the same.  :wonder:

I used to buy mine at the pharmacy but the most affordable ones I've found are those at the paint sections of hardware shops. Not sure if that's helpful, waiting for someone from the UK to suggest brands!

Echoing Griffin's point-unless you are using a nail polish remover that has additional ingredients, it should all be about equally effective. I still just get mine at my workplace because it's easier, but you will likely have better mileage getting a large amount from a hardware store.

I just get 100% acetone.  I haven't found one brand to be better than another.  As the others have said if it's 100% it should all be the same.

Thanks guys, I did buy pure acetone but it’s not good so they must have added extra stuff to it or watered it down. I’ll try another one from eBay

Hope you find one that works! It's so disappointing when you're trying to do something and your tools or materials aren't working the way they should :throw:

eBay seems like an odd place to get acetone?  I've always just gotten it from a grocery store or pharmacy for a few dollars a bottle, and one bottle lasts a long time.  It's always worked great, as Griffin said, as long as you get the 100% acetone.  Right now I am working my way through a bottle of store-brand stuff.

Hope you get something that works for you.  What kind were you trying that didn't work?  So everyone can avoid it!

I use accetone in furby customization sometimes. I just buy it from my hardware store. I wouldn't trust ebay, since you can't be too sure how they are storing it and at what temperature, whereas a physical shop would be more prone to inspection.

I just buy store-brand 100% acetone nail polish remover from Walmart or any grocery/general merchandise store. It's usually less than $2. It whisks symbols right off...almost too well if I accidentally get it too close to something you didn't want gone!

Not a specific brand but I will tell you that it needs to be 100% Acetone.  I've tried just regular "Fingernail polish remover" and it's just not the same :)

Thanks loads, I think I’ve been trying stuff that isn’t pure enough so I’m waiting for a pure one to come in the post
