Title: Can I leave accesories on a pony?
Post by: starrynights on March 10, 2021, 01:49:22 PM
Hi there, I just got this beautiful Silver Swirl with her accesories

I want to display her with her hairclips on, but I am worried leaving them on her for a extended period of time will stain her...
What should I do?

Is it a hard plastic? I feel like that would be fine...I'm trying to recall plastic accessories that stain, but can only think of the pink saddles which may be due to the sort of plastic?

They are hard plastic and slightly transparent.
She came with a few pink spots on her back, which I worry could have came from the clips being used in the past - but this may simply be regrind

I think in this instance, I would stay clear or try to seperate the hair from the body using tissue paper or something. I don't think white ponies typically get regrind.

I don't have much to say other than her hair looks great! Did you style it yourself?

You could clip them on a ribbon and display the ribbon near her.

Seal them with a spray sealant. Something like Mr. Super Clear or Dullcote.

That’s not regrind.  Plastic degradation on white ponies is usually brownish.  Regrind is only pink on ponies that are already pink-ish.   It’s possible those pink spots are from the barrettes.  I’m not 100% sure as there are fewer G2s in general, and I haven’t seen this particular problem reported before.  It’s still quite possible.

Personally, I don’t usually keep accessories on ponies for display due to the potential for staining, and the chance of them getting lost.   However, if I wanted to display the barrettes on a white pony, I’d use some carefully cut, low-stick paper medical tape applied to the back and any point that touches the pony(possibly including the inside of the clip that touches the hair) to carefully and discreetly make a removable barrier between the barrette and the pony.  If you decide to go that route, make sure you get the tape that’s designed to be removed easily, otherwise you’ll be dealing with a sticky nightmare.  Otherwise, I’d just display them separately.

I am thinking of sealing them with some brush on duraclear so they stay glossy.

I always remove them to avoid possible color transfer after reading about a Pumpkin Tart that had stains on her from her cat ear costume

I've wondered the same thing. I'm slowly getting Big Brother accessories and I don't want them to stain.

I have some ponies who were already stained by accessories so they get to keep them. Anyone else does not get displayed with accessories.
