Title: Is baby cotton candy bait?
Post by: starrynights on January 24, 2021, 10:44:55 PM
I have tried everything and I can't get these stains off - from oxiclean to acetone.
She also has symbol damage...

The damage is a lot more noticeable in person, my camera is just awful at picking things up.
Is it alright to bait her or no?

Personally, I would try to sun-fade her (and add Salon 40 Creme to speed up the process) and her symbols don't look too complicated to touch up if desired. On the other hand Baby Cotton Candy seems to be one of the most common G1 babies based on how often she turns up on ebay, so if you prefer to customise her, I probably wouldn't feel too guilty about it.

Don't bait, sunfade

I also immediately thought that she is a candidate for sunfading, rather then using a cleaning agent. That sort of thing works well for stains.

People disagree with what "bait" actually is. I sort of see it as 2 major flaws. So she really wouldn't be "bait" to me (even as is. but ESPECIALLY because I think she'll be much better with sunfading). Although if you want to use her for a custom, then that's your call. People have opposing views on that as well, as these are vintage items.

Agree with the others! She has nice pink hair so in her current state I'd classify her as poor or even fair condition. I'd definitely try sunfading first!

I agree, sunfade should take that off easily and she'll look beautiful

Biggest takeaway.
I wouldn't bait.

I am worried to mess with sunfading because I heard that it can bleach the vinyl and then transfer to other ponies

You might be thinking of using Acne Cream. You can sunfade with no product and it will stop progressing once you remove her from the sun.

Oh, cool, I didn't know! Is there a guide?

I follow this guide.  (http://mlparena.com/index.php?topic=288994.0)I'm also a bad ponyparent and have just left a Princess Tiffany outside for a few months with no protection to fade highlighter, she was ok.

Thanks, I'll try it!
If the stains are only on one side, do I still need to turn her?

You should be ok without turning!

A lot of people are saying to try to sun fade her. Do that! If that doesn't work, then yeah, bait her. She can't get any worse, right?

I've had her in the sun about 4 days now, no change...

Honestly, I still think Baby Cotten Candy is adorable stains or no stains. But if the sun fading isn't working, you could always find a youtube video and do it a different way.

I don't know how much sun your area is getting...

but if I were sunfading where I live right now, I'd be giving it a few weeks or maybe even a month before I'd expect results.

Yeah it's winter, so depending on your hemisphere, it may take longer.  I had a pony take about a year to sunfade up here in Canada once.

It's always snowing here in the midwest, so that makes sense.
