Title: Preserving the integrity of ponies with forelocks?
Post by: Mana Minori on August 26, 2020, 10:04:12 AM
I like the g4 ponies with forelocks. They were very shortly produced before the forelocks were taken away in the design and all the ponies began prematurely balding and developing receding hairlines like Middle Aged men.    So I was surprised to find that I had gotten an Applejack with a forelock, with my early 2011 toyline exclusive ponies, Snowcatcher, Flitterheart, and Ploomette. I was going to use AJ to turn into a custom, but now I’m not so sure, now that I discovered her little forelock. Do I preserve the integrity of the forelock, or hack it off? Am I holding the forelock too sacred in the g4 line, or just being ridiculous, because I’m possibly putting more value in it than it’s worth?

I think the forelocked ones are particularly hard to find. I've only seen a few of them in my G4 days, primarily Rainbow Dash. I would sell her online, or I'd be happy to trade her for some baity earth ponies!

'Prematurely balding and developing receding hairlines like middle-aged men'... XD XD XD

I would preserve the one that has a forelock, or pass her along to someone who wants her; I hardly (if ever) see G4s that have them.

The forelock / bangs really improve the G4s A LOT, I wish they'd kept it for the whole line.

That's my only contribution on this subject.  I think forelocks in general are great, I don't want to upset people but I did take scissors to a couple of my G3s when they were still on the shelves.  :P

they indeed do seem quite rare. I just happened to find a forelock Twilight not too long ago. And I just checked to see if the other AJ I got about two months ago was forelocked, and surprisingly, she was. So now I have two. Makes it a bit easier to decide what to do with my recently acquired AJ, but I still hesitate due to the rarity of the forelock

My trade offer still stands if it keeps nagging at you.

I feel like the general good rule of thumb for whether or not to customise something is whether there's someone out there looking to trade for it before you do it.

It's harder to know with G4 what will and won't become sought after going forward, especially with so many M6 things. But if there aren't so many with forelocks, then probably it's better to find one with ratty hair and no forelock instead...

yeah, that’s a good idea actually. I’ll definitely give that some thought before I make any rash decisions to customize.
I definitely don’t want any regrets.

I would keep them intact, personally, but I'm really not "up" on what is considered baitable or not in the G4 world!  I really like the bangs when they did them, though.  There should be a plethora of "ordinary" Mane 6 toys running around ebay and even here, I reckon, that you could get for cheap to use.

I hate it when people cut hair for no reason. Unless its ruined beyond hope  and you have to do it, I personally wouldn't.

I've done it once and on a model horse I found at the swapmeet. Nothing i could do would tame the frizz and slight matting on this poor beast. I swear I could see it crawling up the tail. I had to trim the hopeless hair and braid it, because the frizz was spreading! I was so upset at myself that it soured my elation at finding him for a while.

 At balding like middle aged men.
