Title: How many G1 baby ponies are in your collection??

After seeing PonyBookworm and LadyAmalthea's nursery pictures I got curious to go count the babies in my cupboard. My sister and I share a collection so there are some ponies she has that I don't. So I only counted mine.

Including only loose baby ponies, I counted 222. I am not sure how much it would be if I included MOC since I can't get at them. There are maybe about another 40 or so MIP but I'm not going to count them as I can't see them right now to check. I think I also have some other loose newborn twins somewhere since I didn't see Noodles and Doodles in my counting. I have a feeling some of my twin pairs are with their accessories in the Rattles & Tattles box. So I only counted what was obviously in my cupboard shelves.

Count included:
All baby ponies including nirvana, variants, newborns, teenies, baby sea ponies and merbabies. Also pretty pals.

Count did not include:
MOC ponies, custom ponies, fakie ponies, ponies from other generations.

I'm curious to know - how many babies do YOU have in your collection??

(Please don't include HQG1C babies or other custom babies or fakies, genuine G1 ponies only please. But you can include MIP ones if you have them to hand, I just can't see mine to count them accurately atm xD.)

Let's see.. If memory serves...
Baby Ribbon, Baby Moondancer, Baby Surprise, Baby Gusty, Ember (Lavender), Baby Sea Breeze, and Baby Sundance.
So only 7 thus far.

Baby Ember and Baby Sundance are the only ones I specifically sought on eBay. The others are collectibles shop, thrift store, and yard sale finds.

Edit... I didn't count. It's a lot with duplicates in there. 99% of them are in this picture (no mocs/mibs)

Anyways, I counted 56 babies, newborns, and baby sea ponies. I didn't include duplicates, which would push the total closer to 80, I think. This photo doesn't include the twins/newborns, since it made the photo too wide to include them, and everyone saw them in their nursery already anyway!

ETA: okay, it is blurry, so the link shows it better, other than the fact that it cuts off Baby Frosting! Oh well.

And my picture cuts off Baby Buttons :/ And you can only see Baby Honeycomb's hooves. She's a bit shy.

Post by: Featherwurm on July 30, 2020, 10:32:21 AM: You know it's funny, the babies were definitely much loved by me as a child (I played with them the most by far, they had the most adventures and stories of interpersonal drama), but I've never added more any to my (admittedly quite small) collection since childhood. I have 6 babies and 4 teeny tiny newborns, making for 10 total and constituting of my 31% childhood herd and 23% of my G1 collection total (if we're counting just 100% Hasbro and no fakies).

You can tell that despite being generally a conscientious child, they're still much loved (I need to get Beach Ball and Sunribbion's hair fixed up at some point...).

Some day it's time to focus on them. It is great seeing those pictures, so many cute babies!

I have the rainbow babies, the first set of US Play and Care (because that is what I had as a kid), baby Lemondrop (regular with the dark symbols and NC), Baby Gusty (because she's awesome + a custom I made waiting to get one with sparkly symbols), baby Buttons the blue Ember, NBBE Cuddles and Tiddly Winks (because I had them as a kid and my original goal was to just replace my childhood collection), both Argie baby Butterscotches, a custom baby Powder that I made, Lucky Leaf (again because of awesomeness), a Peruvian baby Ribbon or Bow Tie or whatever she is supposed to be because I will clearly find whatever is released in that baby unicorn pose amazing. I only have 2 of the BBE ponies, because they came with something else. The Rice Krispies Christmas Pony. Fancy pants Argie baby "Gusty" .

21 or so? Which doesn't seem like a lot considering I've been collecting as an "adult" since 1995.

There are a few more I'd like to have, Baby Stripes, Baby Ribbon (or any of those baby unicorns, all of them, let's go! Get in my collection!), Baby Meadowsweet (no idea why she's the only one of the set I want, but I would love to find a hairless one to restore). Some Nirvanas I'll probably never get a hold of.

I have one of each US/ Euro Baby to exist except: Baby Rabbit (Dutch), the girl versions of Baby Sugarcake & Baby Gametime (I chose instead to Customise them as Baby Boys), Rattles & Tattles Newborn, & Jabber & Jebber newborn. I as yet have no Nirvana Babies but recently acquired Splashes to go with Swimmer (a take on her German name of Schwimmer), as well as having both pink & purple Embers. I have no pearly Babies or Baby Pony Armies.

I also have one of each HQG1C Baby, a bunch of Custom Babies, a load of G2 Babies & many G3 Babies

On another note, glad I helped inspire a thread Taffeta xxx

His hair is red and yellow. I commisioned him for her bday one year. She's interested in natural disasters too.

It’s easier to say what I don’t have. I don’t collect boy ponies, so scratch any in the boy poses. I don’t like the USA family ponies, so I don’t have any of those. I don’t like the ballet ponies, so I don’t have those.

Other than that, I tend to go for the babies first, so I probably have the rest of the USA releases, including all mail orders. I’ve been working on the UK and Euro ponies for a while, so I have almost all of those. If a BBE was released somewhere without the freaky eyes, I probably have both. I’m missing 2 of the UK Surprise Newborns. I have quite a few nirvana babies. I have 5 Greeks, at least 10 Argies(probably considerably more), at least one Brazilian, and a small pile of Mexicans.

All together I must have over 200 babies.

The baby brother are may favorites of the baby ponies, so if I started collecting babies they'd be first. The set is really nostalgic to me too. I got the 2 in my childhood herd (Baby Drummer and Baby Countdown) from a store my dad worked at when I was a kid. I hope to one day reacquire those 2, and Baby Paws and Baby Racer.

Post by: babyprincessnicole on August 01, 2020, 09:01:59 PM: Doing a rough count, I believe I have around 240-250 G1 babies in my collection if we are counting baby sea ponies too. I have all US release, plus most non-US (non-Nirvana) release (missing some Dutch release babies, sweetie babies, jewelry babies, seaside babies and the babies from the Surprise twins mom and babies set). Of the Nirvana babies I have 3 Brazilian babies and 4 Argentinian babies.

I love the baby sets! I grew up with BBE babies so I’ve always been fond of them even though I know they are unpopular. I’ve even grown to love the teeny tiny baby ponies.

I have a hunch now after counting that every time I buy an adult a baby pony comes home too. The other day I went to an indoor swap meet (before they were closed down again) and brought home a baby and a couple adults, and if I think about it, the time before that the same thing a few adults and a baby. Hmm.....they are sneaking in.
