Title: pony hair disaster
Post by: faespirit on July 25, 2020, 06:22:39 PM
So I went to check on my ponies and noticed that something terrible had happened to both meadow flower and sea swirl.
https://imgur.com/a/Sg4BdCZ
Their hair had sort of melted? when all I had done was left them sitting with my other gals. I never used heat or put anything in their hair just plain water—in fact, they were bought just three days ago as upgrades as my previous sea swirl and meadow flower had extremely frizzy hair. My guess is that it was maybe because of the sun shining from the window but I didn't think the hair quality would be that low. 0_o
what sucks is that they were the first pearly ponies I had ever seen with decent hair and now that's all gone.  :(

That concerns me, as the pearlies are one of my favorite sets and I own Sea Swirl. They're not even that old! Hasbro, what is wrong with you?

That's such a shame, the quality on the later G4s is really abysmal.  :(
What's the heat in your room like?

I honestly have no idea how it all happened but it pisses me off. I just left them sitting there. One minute ago they were brand new and the next their hair was ruined. I remember it being a little sunny but my room wasn't even that humid to begin with. I live in Pennsylvania which isn't even that hot of a state so. I'm clueless and devastated.  :(

It soars to over 100 where I'm at and it hasn't happened to mine, (knock on wood) so heat might not be a factor.

Then I wonder what was. I did leave them in a box with my other gals since I'm in the process of moving. None of my others were affected but could that have done something? It couldn't have happened randomly.  :(

I don't know and it still could be a factor. Or it could be something else entirely. Poor faespirit.  :(

update: I did manage to 'fix' them a little bit with fabric conditioner and cutting bits of melted hair.
https://imgur.com/a/4ff0VOO
sea swirl's hair seems perfectly fine now but her tail is mainly affected. The front half of meadow's mane is rough but the back half and tail are completely fine. I know their hair will never be the same but at least they still display nicely.

tbh if I had some spare hair with me yes .. meadow is such a pretty pony and I think she deserves to have much better hair. (plus she isn't that expensive) sea swirl is fine now for the most part.

Hi sorry for spreading lies I just found out that none of this was due to the sunlight. instead my nasty little brother had gotten to my ponies and burned their hair with a lighter. Hasbro hasn't dropped that low I'm glad.

Damn, I'm not happy to realize I wasn't far off  with that "melted cotton candy" comparison.
How despicable. Why did he do that ?

I know! :enraged: I remember we did buy some lighters for the fourth of july and he did use them. He probably got excited afterwards because we recently discovered he burned a small portion of our carpet and then saw my ponies. my mom has since thrown them all away. I'm just glad that I didn't have any rarer gals lying around otherwise I would've died of a heart attack ..

Ah, okay.
You never can tell with parents, sadly.

I'm afraid to find out what the fate of most later g4 ponies is gonna be in 10 years

edit: I just read the update but my point still stands  :P

He's like. 10. Not even a little kid anymore. By that age, you'd expect that he wouldn't do stupid things like that but no.  -_-

Oh noooo, and that's such a pretty set, too!  One of my favorites!

I checked my pearlies just now and they're currently okay . . . I feel like sunlight + window is the most likely culprit, but it does seem very strange.

Edit:  I just caught up with the comments and saw that the real culprit was your little brother!  OMG!  I guess I'm glad the hair isn't spontaneously doing it on its own, but boy would I be mad. (Also concerned that he's playing with fire, like yikes.  Stay safe!)

I’m getting kind of worried now, since most of my g4s are pearly like her.

Milky Dreams : Rest assured, the issue was caused by a kid setting the hair on fire. As long as you don't have a young individual meddling with fire and your ponies simultaneously, your pearlies should remain safe.
