This was the hardest poll yet for me as I love them all and consider this set basically perfect. But I noticed there were 5 pink pony friends in total so I can't help but feel maybe at least one or two of them could've been a different shade. I ended up picking baby Hoppy as my least favourite since I don't find her as cute as the others and is the exact same shade of pink as baby Woolly. Despite still liking her!
-
Mine is Oakly but only because Hasbro FORGOT HIS EARS!! Poor baby:(
-
Edgar I think. I'm not too fond of the colours.
Edit to fix typo ;)
-
Probably Oakly, his hands-like antlers creep me out.
-
Where is the option for all of them?
-
I like the ungulates- it makes them seem more like real MLP pony friends that co-exist in the same world, rather than random animals with hair slapped on. (Creamsicle, Cha-Cha, Spunky, Zig Zag, Oakly, Leafy, Woolly) BUT I do also really, really love Kingsly. <3 But I think they (Kingsly's never really struck me as either male nor female) make a bit more sense in that regard, as well.
Also Oakly DOES have ears! I didn't even realize until I was looking at pictures of him. They're behind the antlers.
Unfortunately I really don't like Cutesaurus.
I hate the name and she makes really little sense being in an MLP line, lol...
Which sucks cause I love dinosaurs! And honestly outside of those two points, she's really cute.
She would've been better as a Darlin Dino or something.
Hoppy is also really strange. But honestly still cute.
Edgar and Nectar are.... ehhhhh..... >_>
So they're probably my least faves.

Agree!! My least favorites are Kingsley, Cutesaurus, and Edgar, with Kingsley way at the top. Favorites are probably Wooly and Spunky.
-
Aaaahhh I don't think I can vote in this one. Pony Friends is my favorite set, I adore them all so much! I'd feel bad voting any of them because I want them all so bad (I've got three so far).
-
Edgar. He just looks off to me. Maybe it is the impractical stubby legs or the expression. Either way, his hair and species reminds me of someone I hate. So I don't feel good vibes from him.

Same. Like maybe there is another cartoon character with an annoying personality that he reminds me of, but I can't put my finger on who. Too bad, because usually I like elephants!
-
I'm not too fond of Edgar. His design just seems off and it's kind of weird he has mane. I suppose that goes for Cutesaurus as well but i still like them a bit.
-
I picked zig zag because of the round ears and kinda stumpy appearence, which doesn't makes sense to me
-
Sorry Spunky, but your name is just.......
That's the main reason I put the vote as I did. If only Spunky had a less dodgy name...
-
Where is the option for all of them?
Haha, I'd probably chose that if that were an option! I've never been overly fond of the pony friends.
-
Kingsley, Edgar and dinosaur are my least favorites.
-
I would go with Edgar... someone on the boards said something silly along the lines that he looked like Trump. I can't unsee that now so I giggle everytime I see him in the ponyroom.
-

I share the sentiments expressed here.

Yes I was about to cite this as my reason! I just can't shake it out of my head!
-
I guess Wooly
-
Edgar for me too, not really an elephant person and something about his colours just rubs me the wrong way. (Also I can't unsee the Trump thing now! Eek!!)
I don't really care for Cutesaurus either (I'm just not a dinosaur person), but eh, she's grown on me a bit.
-
Kingsley. I don't care much for the mold, and he's so freaking monochrome pink. They missed an opportunity for some different colors that would have made him stand out.
-

Haha, good thing I have no interest in him. I would probably have to kick him out of the pony room. I picked Spunky, even though I just bought her/him(?). Not sure what made me get him but he just looks so awkward. I am not that fond of Edgar or Oakly either. I am kind of surprised that Kingsley is one of the least liked. My cousin had him as a kid, so I just accept and like him due to that, I suppose. I had Creamsicle as a kid, found her at a thrift store. I did not know for sure that she was MLP, I just knew she resembled them and had similar eyes. I would not pass up Cha Cha or Cutesaurus at a good price, but not actively looking for them.
-
Eventually I'd like to get them all but if I had to nitpick my vote goes to Edgar.
For some reason the design of manes on an elephant looks weird to me. Even in MLP world it's a bit too much, like he's wearing a wig.
-
I love them all, but Zig Zag seems like a weird choice for a pony friend. Like do you really need a separate zebra toy in a line that is 99% ponies? Just seems like they could have subbed in something more unique. They had a lion, so how about a wolf or a bear or a peacock or something? (My concept for a peacock: molded tail, painted. The brushable hair would be on his head. Basically like Fairy Tail birds but a longer neck and smaller head.)
Also this thread has ruined Edgar for me, lol! But that's okay, I don't have him anyway. I hate that his name is just "Edgar". Seriously? Call him Peanut or Trunks or something.
-
Also Oakly DOES have ears! I didn't even realize until I was looking at pictures of him. They're behind the antlers.
Holy cow, he does!! Took me a while to find a pic that showed them. Thanks for the info!!
-
I love them all but I voted Kingsley. She's just...All pink.
-
I voted for Nectar. Nectar is still cute and all, but the sculpt and the smooth edges of the white paint make it look like the white part of the body is clothes instead of different-colored fur. If the edges were more naturally fuzzy it would look better.
-
I think the "problem" with Edgar's hair is the colour. I mean, the hair looks weird anyway on an elephant, but it might've looked less weird if it wasn't so...... blonde. Or maybe if he just had a little tuft of hair, like the baby pony pals.
I picked Spunky, even though I just bought her/him(?).
"Her" according to her backcard :B the only boys in the line are Edgar and Oakly (yes, Kingsley is a girl!!).
Well, the first two lines, anyway. Dunno about the Pretty Pals cause the only backcard for those that mentions a pronoun is Hoppy... the one whose gender is obvious anyway cause of her pouch. x)

Does anyone have a pic of his ears??? I thought he was earless, too!!
-
You can see his ears in one of the pictures on this site:
https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/little-pony-oakley-moose-vintage-g1-1817083182
The funniest thing about this is his backcard story is about the ponies asking him why his ears are so funny-looking! And then he tells them they're antlers. :P
-
They're all so cute though!
Kingsley is at the bottom of the list for me...
-
Always had a kind of disconnect to all the pony friends. We never had them here and when I discovered them online I felt they were an odd idea.
Still feel that way. Not sure who my least favourite would be though.

Or a rug...like Trump   XD :haha:
The only elephants that I have seen where the hair does not look too weird is probably on the baby elephant in Disney's The Jungle Book. One of the adults actually gets a buzz cut due to having too unruly of a hairdo. Lol.

Huh, I have always considered (King!)sley to be a boy, even though monochrome pink.
-
It's interesting in other polls how people point out how there's too much pink yet only one of the pink ones out of 5 is in the top 3.
-
I love Cha Cha, I had a toy Llama as a child and I've never forgotten him! Cha Cha is next level because MLP x Llama so I and very keen to add him/her to my collection one day.
Edit: I completely misread the thread! My least favourite is the Zebra one because I think she could have been a lot more zebra-like but she just looks like a calf to me.
-
Kingsley is a boy. He's got a mane and his name is Kingsley, not Queensly. I'm amazed that Hasbro was dumb enough not to know the know the difference between a male and female lion.
-
And yet her backcard (http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/File:KingsleyBackcard.jpg) clearly uses female pronouns multiple times. She's a girl. They just wanted her to have brushable hair like the others and didn't care that only male lions have manes in real life. (Although idk why they gave her a boy name as well.)
Lions don't have fluffy tails like that, zebras don't have horse tails, elephants don't have flowing blonde manes, and none of these animals are freakin' technicoloured in real life, but somehow the female lion having a mane is the one that everyone gets weird about. I don't get it!
Also it's rare, but there actually are (https://www.nationalgeographic.com/news/2018/02/animals-lions-manes-zoos-genetics-spd) reported cases (https://www.newscientist.com/article/2106866-five-wild-lionesses-grow-a-mane-and-start-acting-like-males) of female lions growing manes in real life.
-
He's a boy and just because Hasbro does not know the difference doesn't mean I'm going to agree with them. They were wrong, plain and simple.
-
Eh. I just think it's silly to judge this set, of all things, by real life standards. It's not like the rest of the pony friends are at all realistic.
-

Neither is a bipedal talking lion with a heart and crown on his stomach, but at least its creators knew the difference between a male and female of the species. And yes, impo the whole set looks ridiculous. I never did like the Pony Friends or Pretty Pals because of their brushable hair.
-
Honestly not a fan of any of these guys...Cuteasaurus is my vote though, she's weird even by Pony Friend standards.

lol well if we're going to bring other toylines into this, Hasbro are hardly the only toy company to make a female lion with a mane (https://he-man.fandom.com/wiki/Clawdeen).
-
Basically Hasbro said Trans Rights! ;)

You say that, but I seem to remember many male cartoon kangaroos being depicted with pouches also.

I thought of that *right* after I posted XP I really wouldn't have been surprised if they had said Hoppy was a dude.

That's right! I didn't even think of that and I have her toy in my pony room.
I guess to me Kingsley does not really have a regular lion mane, just a "mop on top" sort of thing going on since it is not down the neck and around his/her face (theirs?).
-

Me too! Sorry Edgar, I know you were here first, but ugh, yeah.
-
Poor Edgar!
So I don't have really strong feelings for any of them. They are cute, but don't feel like My Little Pony to me. Even when they were in stores, I went for ponies instead.

I suspect a lot of people had the same reaction, which is why they're harder to find nowadays.
-
With the Kingsley discussion, I personally see them as a "they," maybe more feminine but still both? Lol.
What if he was just born pink and can't help it! :P Lol. :silly:
Also I think it's totally fine to disagree with the gender Hasbro gave them, I don't think that really makes them "wrong," I think that's just a personal opinion at that point. :) They were the creators, so technically whatever they decided is what's "right" canonically for that character, even if it is a bit odd. But cartoons and toys, especially in the 80s, were never too concerned with accuracies like that. :)
-
Toy manufacturers really don't seem to have grasped lion dimorphism. Puppy in my Pocket had a lion called Lucy, who has cubs and a long flowing mane?! http://www.90sinmypocket.com/014-lucy.html
Maybe they just feel a mane looks more interesting and recognisably lion-like?
@Carrehz, those articles on lionesses with manes are really interesting. I came here to look at cute ponies and learnt new things about lions!
The confusion over Kingsley's gender actually makes me like him/her more! Trans headcanon accepted :). I'm not big on Pony Friends generally. My least favourite is probably Nectar, to me he (she? it?) doesn't really look like he belongs in My Little Pony the way the others do. Not sure why.
