Title: Basic Fun Ponies - Have New Waves Released?
Post by: Tulips on July 01, 2020, 06:22:00 PM
I haven't been active on here in quite some time, so I apologise of there is a current thread.

Have the new waves of Basic Fun Ponies released yet?

Lickety Split, Tootsie, Cherries Jubilee & Posey
Heart Throb, Surprise, Gusty & Sparkler

I've seen unicorns & Pegasus mentioned (Heart Throb in specific) but no word of the earth ponies? Have they released? I so desperately want a Posey and would be devastated if I missed getting her.

Cheers  ^.^

I have seen Sparkler, but her hair is different than the original. It had red in her tail, and her mane was half and half, rather than purple with just the stripe.

The new pegasus / unicorn wave is out. :)  The Earth ponies are a separate wave, I believe they are slated for Fall or Winter.  Don't worry, you haven't missed them!

If Lickety Split has been seen then there's probably a good chance others will also appear.

UK still waiting :(

Not to besmirch the person who thought they saw Lickety-Split, but I haven't heard of anyone getting any of the Earth ponies in hand, nor are there any listed on eBay.  And Basic Fun has always listed the Earthie set as a later release when they're asked.

Sometimes the mind plays tricks on you, you know?  For years I thought my BBE Baby Heart Throb had winged-heart symbols.  (She didn't.)

I'm nearly certain I saw here there 🤔 .... I remember thinking I liked her ice creams, but I'm more excited about heartthrob. Maybe a case of misplaced stock? I should have taken a pic

I found everyone except Heart Throb today. There were also 2 Gustys and 2 Sparklers at my Target but only one Surprise.

I've seen Gusty, Heart Throb, Sparkler, and Surprise at several Targets in Central Indiana.

No sign of Cherries Jubilee, Lickety Split, Posey, and Tootsie yet.

Most of the time, the Pacific Coast States gets new items first, followed by the East Coast States, and finally we get them here!

Thanks Taffeta.  :)  I was surprised I found them.

I wonder if the previous wave on the side panel means Basic Fun might reissue that set?

I've been away from the arena for awhile.  Could someone catch me up on these releases? What ponies has this company released and who else is slated to be forthcoming? How are they different from the originals in the 80s? One thing that bothered me about a lot of the early sets were the glittery symbols that would suffer glitter loss. Do these have glitter symbols or painted ones? Also I was just Dollar General and saw G1 Mash 'ems or Mashables or something..... I think they were from the same company.

I’m jealous you’re finding these ponies too!

I could probably be braver and go to Target to look.  But there is a covid spike in my area and I just don’t wanna.  I’m sure I could rush in and out.

Here's their website, although it doesn't show the newest releases: https://www.basicfun.com/mylittlepony/index.html

They have glitter symbols. I'll let others tell you more about the look and feel, I only have a couple (Bubbles and Seashell) and I haven't opened the boxes.

I'm still hoping this newest set will become available in Finland, I need Gusty! :P

I want Gusty, but I would prefer her in So Soft form so... Hm. Maybe they'll do those? I also hope they'll do the adult Sea Ponies because seriously.

I've rehaired a Skydancer, handled a Tickle but didn't finish rehairing her.
The plastic seems to be thicker and less squishy. The hair is silky and soft, but there is a bit of a gel-ish product on the forelock. This brushes out fairly easily though and the hair seems to be as soft as the rest underneath.
For rehairing purposes, the neck plug is much smaller. I've had to hack away a few chunks in order for my needle to properly get in the pony's head. The tail is anchored with a metal washer and clamp. If I remember correctly, the mane comes out very easily as well and is woven in rather than glued? I could be wrong, been a bit since I handled them.
The Mashems are from the same company! Makes me hope we'll see more retro pony stuff in general from them.

The glitter symbols are coated for protection (it seems). It doesn't affect their look.

The ponies themselves are harder than the originals.

I have a question: did Bridge Direct make all the collector pose ponies? I got a Blossom the other day and noticed it said Bridge Direct and not Basic Fun.

Yes, I was wondering where the Bridge Direct came into it, too - I've never really understood exactly what their involvement in the repros is/was ^^;

Bridge Direct and Basic Fun are the same company, Bridge Direct just changed their name :)

I couldn't remember if they just changed their name or it they merged with a different company. The first retro Strawberry Shortcake dolls had Bridge Direct on them.

Reporting from FL: Not yet but I'm gonna catch 'em all!

To Zelda (and also anyone else):
If you want them to do the adult seaponies or for us to finally have 10 dollar Mimic --do everything you can to make BF do well & sell LOADS of every wave. Spread the word for free on tumblr, facebook, pinterest or anywhere that you have to promote them & get other people to buy the ponies. The rarer releases are contingent on them doing good enough with what's here now. I personally, am shipping them overseas to people who couldn't ordinarily just buy them without huge markups & offering deboxing and whatever else that Amazon won't do. ANY extra sale is a GOOD SALE toward Mimic, Mountain Boys or Big Bros or anything else you can think of. If everybody bought 2 (one for you, one for a friend--who is paying you to buy it...) who knows how far they'd go. But the main point is that anyone picking up any of these does make a difference. (Also interacting with them does too----physical letters worked so if you feel like spending a stamp it's worth it)

I checked a Target in Ohio and haven't found any, much to my disappointment :c. I thought they might be on the Target website but I did not find any, and oddly enough I noticed that their online selection of retro ponies was very limited- I wonder why that is?

I checked Target today and someone had bought Surprise, leaving the 2 Sparklers and 2 Gustys.  I think this must be the same set I found last week because Heart Throb is still missing.  The G3 retros were on clearance for $7 at my Target.

Yes.:)  I’ve seen G3 Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Applejack.

I keep checking my local Target and still no new wave! East coast always gets it last. ;p

I found the newest wave yesterday with Gusty.. The Surprise had a badly damaged ripped up box, and her sticker was floating around in there. I didn't care so much since I plan to open her up. :-)

My husband says the same about the west coast and Transformers.

I'm not sure if it is so much about the local Targets getting things last, or more about the toys still sitting on the shelves. If the shelves still have the last release they are less likely to order a new batch. Of course this is assuming that the new ones are still using the same code numbers (since that is what has happened with the last few releases). All my local Targets are stocked with the 2nd wave of Rainbows and the G3 repros.
