Title: Surf Dancer and Sea Ponies in general
Post by: IceCrystal02 on April 12, 2020, 01:33:28 PM
I have a Surf Dancer, but I've no idea if it's the regular version or the Italian one. All the earlier ponies available over here were Italians, so I'm wondering if she might be Italian too.

How do you tell where the Sea Ponies were made, as they have no country stamp? My Surf Dancer has a "1" or "I" carved into her tail, do you know if this has any significance for her country of origin? I bought her when she was new, so this carved 1/I is definitely factory-made.

Her eyes seem Italian, in my opinion.

Ok, thanks! Is it the colour or how they are made? Here is another one:

The "I" on the bottom means Italy. Hong Kong ones have HK.

But her eyes and how her hair falls also identify her as Italian :)

yeah its how the eyes are painted, not so smooth as Hong Kong and a bit roughand usually out of the lines and hair like taffeta said, also they bodies are usually darker too ;)

the italians have stamped Eyes, while the others have painted Eyes. You can see on the italians, that they are often not exactly following the Eye contour of the mold, or as on your pony, the White shows outside of the eyeliner.  Also, italian Eyes are Always blue. :)

Thanks for shedding more light on Italian ponies shabbychicdee and Leikin! Mylittlewiki is my main source of information, but in the case of Surf Dancer, there aren't many photos and I couldn't make out a difference, as the photos aren't very large. I have quite a lot of Italians and I haven't even noticed their eyes are always blue, ha ha.

I've always wondered why the eyes aren't following the eye contour very well, but I've grown used to it as most of my first ponies are all Italian.

Oh, absolutely, actually, I would prefer the blue one with pink hair over Surf Dancer any time.
