Title: Things to do in self isolation!
Post by: freezestime on March 18, 2020, 08:52:02 AM
Friends, are you in self isolation and ran out of things to do? This thread is meant to provide ideas to beat boredom!

Start or continue your customs!
Clean your house, like a deep clean or those things you always tend to forget about!
Go through your things! Put aside clothes you don't wear anymore, maybe search your attic, stuff like that!
Rearrange your ponies!
Style ponies!
Draw things! Maybe an oc you haven't drawn in a while, or maybe draw some interior decorating!
Do a virtual clean up and organisation! Get rid of files you don't need, create folders for things and put them away for easier organisation!
If you have a pile of stuff to sell, tidy them up, take pics and list them!
Photograph your collection, or the ones you really like!
Learn to sew or do sewing! Make a cute frilly dress for your favorite pony maybe!
Play the new animal crossing game!
Look through old photos and maybe transfer to a digital platform!
Organise your surroundings! Maybe just your room, maybe make up drawer, ect.
Play a game on your steam account.
Make wishlists! Of the ponies you want, acessories you need, upgrades or even of other things like Barbies or those early 1900's troll gnome things.
Make sure to do any uni/school work though!
Daydream!
Plan out things you'd like to do in your future! Maybe moodboards, talking to another being about it or write it out on a word doc!
Search up your name/username and look at the results!
Do the Florida man challenge!
Contemplate your life choices.
Watch an anime/read a manga you've been meaning to or need to catch up with.

Any other recommendations from friends are appriciated!

Tabletop Simulator has been a valuable game for my online friendships, and I'm sure that can extend to real life friends you might not be able to meet up with. You can download lots of pre-made games or make your own.
eBay is poppin' right now, so definitely list stuff if you have anything. I think it's a good time to finally do some grudge work around the house and clean your windows.
If you have any fresh fruit or vegetables, plant the seeds and see what happens!
Read a really long fanfiction.
Make videos analyzing your favorite media or talking about that fanfiction.
Clean your pony stash. Pick some ponies to curl hair or give a little makeover.
Get bold with some paint!
Learn some new software or a new skill in that software.
Play against me in Them's Fightin' Herds.

I'm not in self isolation yet but work has been cancelled for at least another week.

I will probably be watching a lot of anime, talking about anime etc..

I have several manga books I haven't read.

I also have some diamond painting kits I haven't started yet.

I have a lot of adult coloring books that I can color in.

If someone else is stuck at home with you, board games can be a good way to pass the time!

There's some really fun ones out there...

I've only started playing them so I'm not sure I'm able to make great suggestions. But https://boardgamegeek.com/ is a place you could go to research.

Maybe if other people are into these things, I'll just compile a large list here :) I'll start with the ones I own, and then if I think of others I've played at the local game shop I'll add them. I'll try to add links when I get the time.

I prefer laid back games, and nothing too extreme with competition. ^_^

BOARD GAMES
co-op  player games:
2-4p Pandemic (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/30549/pandemic)... (ha)
2-6p Flashpoint (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/100901/flash-point-fire-rescue)
1-4p Burgle Bros (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/172081/burgle-bros)
2-7p Captain is dead (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/159503/captain-dead) (this one is great, but intense. don't start out with it).
3-6p Betrayal at house on the hill (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/10547/betrayal-house-hill)
2-7p Mysterium (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/181304/mysterium)
2-5p hanabi (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/98778/hanabi) (i enjoy this with more than 2 players. also i enjoy the tile version (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/272743/hanabi-deluxe-ii).)

competitive 2+ player  games
1-5p argicola (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/31260/agricola)
2p agricola:all creatures big and small (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/31260/agricola)
2-4p takenoko (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/70919/takenoko) - CUTE PANDA!
1-4p sagrada (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/199561/sagrada)
2-5p tokaido (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/123540/tokaido) (would be better 3+ since 2 players need to control a third player).
2-6p nico burger (https://playnation.com.sg/nico-burger-game-english-rules/) (silly japanese stacking game)

I posted this earlier this month in a thread about just generally being at home all the time so I'll put it here too with some new additions

* Youtube, literally any subject you enjoy is on there. You could watch/do exercises and yoga, diy arts and crafts. I personally enjoy PBS Eons and Space Time channels
* Drawing, painting, adult coloring books
* Reading books, manga, fanfiction, blogs
* Writing a story
* Journaling, daily journal, positivity journal etc
* Making collages
* Cleaning the house, or ponies
* Organization of rooms, drawers, shelves, one area at a time
* Video games, console, pc or app
* Learning a new language, coding, trade or craft
* Curating an Instagram
* Doing make up looks
* Building dioramas or displays for toys and collections
* Cooking and trying new recipes, meal planning and prepping
* Creating your own blog or youtube, I found blogging very rewarding in the past and I just wrote about my hobbies
* Get penpals and write emails (I changed from snail mail because we should give postal workers a break)
* Mediation
* Make a Vision board
* Plan a future vacation, look up sights restaurants etc. Create a Google map for them
* Pick out a time frame and location to study the history of it
* Call loved ones you don't often see
* Look up ways to serve your community during this time
* Organize digital photos
* Play with your dog, cat, pets

I would also add to this some info about creating structure and routine. I'm a health coach and many of my clients are struggling with working from home, not working, having kids home etc and the impact on their routine. So I'd recommend:
* Create a new hourly schedule for yourself
* Use a calendar to schedule in work, breaks, meal prep/cooking, exercise etc
* Find things to do as a family like a YouTube exercise video or science experiments
* Set reminders on your phone for walking (around the house or your block) and stretching
* Set time limits on social media, and set time allotments for things like cleaning, creating, etc
* Have a set cut off time for work, just because you are at home and continue to work do not

I'm not in isolation yet.  Still going to work actually, but I have plans for in case it happens.  I've already cleaned my living spaces so I'll just have to keep up on laundry.

Puzzles
Scrapbooking
Painting
Writing (got a few Nanowrimo novels I could work on)
Reading
Working on some custom ideas
Working on my Couch to 5K challenge on the treadmill
Watching "Chuck" for the first time (everyone keeps telling me how awesome it is, I just haven't had time to watch)

Honestly, I've got enough projects going that unless I run out of supplies, I could keep myself busy for months and still not be all done.

I have to manage coralling overly independent over 70 year old parents with underlying health conditions into my day (we are making small progress on the using of tissues instead of hankies, well done Dad, and the not putting hands all over faces, keep going Mum, and the yes we do need to wash our hands when we've been on the bus...) but yeah, whether I can keep them in hand for the whole 12 weeks of the current advised voluntary shielding is questionable.

HOWEVER we are allowed to go for walks because we live in a not very congested area and it's possible to keep distance between people so we are going to do that. It is good for all of us.

Adding to the list - getting outside as much as you can without breaching the lockdown is important for your health - one reason things transmit so much in winter is being inside all the time. If you have a garden, spend time in it. I'm definitely going to focus some of my time on that and suspect Dad will as well.

The biggest issue is the one mentioned above for me and that's structure. The less I can do the less I generally get done. But we have a lot of sorting projects to go through, and I've also got some writing things I want to work on as well. There are anime series to catch up on and TV shows, too. Books to read. Etc.

Loving the suggestions being made so far as well.

I'm keeping in touch with friends online but because many of my uni friends live in other countries we have different time zones to deal with. But it would be amazing to have some kind of online activities as well with people...if just to communicate with people OTHER THAN my parents for the next three months -.-.

Not a whole lot for me to do... I can draw more I guess? Things like cleaning and redoing my journals are easy to do in a single day, I can't really keep myself busy like everyone else. I don't have anything to play or watch. People keep talking about their backlogs they can finally work on but I'm not one who really... likes anything to have a backlog. XD I haven't watched a show start to finish in years and the last game I bought was Mario Odyssey. I just don't like anything and I'm not open to trying anything because I know that I just don't click with most things. Why bother trying to watch a show that doesn't interest you within the first five minutes?

I'd like to learn a new skill and try out crafting but not only do I not have supplies, I'm not allowed to have anything messy in my room... not even drinking water!

Luckily Animal Crossing comes out soon...

I am technically not quarantined, but since I work from home and there's still enough food in the kitchen for another week or so I basically haven't left home since Sunday (although I'm planning to go out for a moment in the morning to catch some fresh air and see if the nearby gas station has any hand sanitizer) and when I'm not busy working I mostly just watch YouTube or something on DVD, I also have the first six seasons of The Simpsons and all episodes of Dexter's Laboratory on my PC. I was also thinking about finally doing something with my ponies' hair, but I always feel too tired or too lazy for that.

I’m not quarantined.

Well I’m still taking the dog out with my mum (till my dad and brother get home, or maybe not because the might have to go into isolation).

When my new re root tool comes I’m going to be doing my ponies hair, and making my own Princess Ponies.

Playing games on my iPad

Watching Disney +

I also echo the above!

I brought in some plastic troughs and set them up to grow salad near the windows. Lettuce, spring onions and coriander apparently don't need as much light as a lot of crops so I have high hopes.

Get a 1/12 dollhouse kit & build it, then paint it, then use spare bits to make furniture, paint it, then put some Ponies in for a scene. take the piccie & share.
Start/continue writing that story.
Sort your Pony collection logs.
Practise Customising on your McDonald's & Phonies.
Rearrange your collections.
Rearrange your furniture if fit enough.
Draw/colour/sculpt/sew/knit/crochet/ whatever crafty stuff takes your fancy.
Do some jigsaw puzzles.

There are also plenty of free to play games out there if you look them up. They don't have to cost anything if you don't want them to, & can definitely while away the time. Also anybody who said clean or tidy I second them.

Thought about this one --

Maybe if you craft you can sell and donate it to a cause that helps people impacted by the virus.
It could be on a big scale or small scale. Helping someone during this time would be cool!

We're not quite in isolation yet, but we're definitely heading that way with more and more restrictions being put in place. It will be hardest on my mum, she likes to get out and about; she's pleased that she'll probably still be able to go for bike rides and walks if she avoids people.

My girlfriend and I luckily have quite a range of indoor things to do. We're fairly used to having to spend time at home due to various health conditions (we're just not used to the rest of the country joining in as well!). There's drawing, writing, rearranging the toy collection, taking photos, reading, playing with our cats, watching YouTube, etc etc. We also have big plans to tidy the house from top to bottom, starting with the attic and finishing in the garage! Quite looking forward to getting stuck into that, and if my parents are unable to go to work they can help with it too. We already had a little look in the attic and found the caravan my dad made for my Sylvanians when I was little! It needs some repairs, so that's another fun project.

It's an awful situation at the moment and so scary so we're trying to make the best of it by finding fun things to do.

For me, isolation to my house instead of ever having to get out and work would be the dream. Nearly all of the activities I love to do are at home in my room, and for those that are not, I've foregone a lot of them due to pain from walking, anyway.

In less than 24 hours I have Animal Crossing New Horizons. Hopefully that game doesn't limit what we can do horribly in the beginning like New Leaf did.

Spent a good couple of hours in the garden this afternoon.

So glad to have it :D

Also, my sister and I have this belief that pretty much every situation in life can be summed up by a Blackadder or a Red Dwarf quote/moment.

And they do not disappoint...even for this one.

Container gardening from kitchen scraps (green onions are super easy) but I'm also collecting seeds from bell and serrano peppers as I use them.
Taught my kid how to properly fold a fitted sheet!
Made sourdough starter, won't be ready for a week or so.
Sorted my prismacolor collection by colors and actually colored in my coloring book!
List stuff on eBay (I do wipe it down with clorox wipes and let dry before shipping)
Creating fun snacks for the hamster and rat, (why yes, I did make tiny breakfast tacos for them! )
Planning on making cardboard furniture/maze for rat cage.
Listen to my husband on conference calls and listen to him vent afterward.
Read. I have 1984 that I've never read and also Fall or Dodge in Hell.
Keep my kids fed and from driving each other crazy, also trying to calm my 17 year old down as he was supposed to graduate and go off to school but hasn't been accepted anywhere. How does he move out if he can't get a job or go to school?
Writing letters to my husbands Grandmother. The youngest is sending a card and I'm doing a penpal type letter. Thinking there may be other people stuck in nursing homes who are feeling more isolated so I thought this morning that I may call and ask for names of people who might appreciate a letter or card, even from a stranger. Plus thank you notes for caretakers right now! They are having to keep up the spirits of the people living there whose families can't visit right now.

Something I do quite a lot is repurpose packaging and other broken items for use in the plant growing/garden/other things that means they don't get thrown out.

Because I feel like it's good to recycle but better to repurpose within the home and then they don't have to go through the process of BEING recycled. Today we had soup. That's a new plant pot. At the moment one of my overwinter plants is using an old curler frame to support a damaged branch, and another is using an empty biro as a support. I've been thinking that with all this going on and me spending more time in the garden, I want to scale that up. Right now we don't know if the council will be able to do collections as often and it will be enough dealing with things like food waste (a separate bin/collection here) and such without having to deal with a mountain of plastic. So I think I'm going to go through whatever else we have and see what else can be used for plants going forward. Water bottles make good temporary greenhouse covers for individual plants...

I also just bought vegetable seeds for the first time in my life. Marks and Spencer up till this point had been giving away free little seed packs with purchases over £20 and I've been germinating the lettuce and the basil already. But it strikes me, why not grow some stuff of our own as well?

I also have some tidying to do, but that's for a rainy day. Thankfully this week the weather is meant to be not too bad.

Don't forget you can still go outside as long as you maintain distance. Walking, running, and riding bikes are all feasible options.

Not when you're in a country or region where you need a permit to go out. One of my Italian friends can't even randomly decide to walk her dogs without facing a fine or even a prison sentence.

Wardah probably was referring to areas in the US which have been told to "shelter-in-place" and places less restricted. :) It's good to get out while we have an option to. Obviously some places have more restrictions.

But it needs to be recognised as Zapper indicated, this is a global forum and not just the US and different regions have different restrictions in place.  So advice like that should probably be given with the region for which it is intended.

Haha xD I suggested to my mother we could make a den but she wasn't amused.

I saw some videos online of people in the Phillipines backpacking around their apartments and exploring the cupboards/climbing wardrobes after their president suggested they ought to have a holiday at home as there were probably parts of their homes they hadn't seen before.

That amused me.

If anyone can sew, maybe look for an opportunity to make masks

I saw this first-- https://www.providence.org/lp/100m-masks and it looks like it will be fulfilled (yay).

But I also saw this list, I'm sure it isn't complete by any means: http://www.trainwithbain.com/sewmasks-for-the-millionmaskchallenge

*sigh* I'm finding less time to get anything accomplished having to work at home and watch/teach a child-- and even then, she's not even here all day. I thought I'd gain my 2 hour commute time. Nope.

I gotta figure out how to squeeze in some quiet/self care time in my day.

We’re not too restricted in my state yet, so I’ve taken the opportunity to enjoy some more walks outside. I don’t often have time to do that :)

For indoor activities I have a lot set aside in case I can’t go out at all anymore. Some of my plans include:
Working (still gotta work full time)
Making jewelry for ponies
Coloring books
Drawing
Sculpting
Paint your own pottery (a local business here is offering this and I wanted to support them)
Stationary bike/ mini stepper
FOOD!! There are so many good delivery options right now! :P
Baking
Watching tv/movies
And of course....killing time online.

I feel like I have enough planned to where I shouldn’t get bored. I just hope I don’t go stir crazy if I can’t leave the house, I usually like to try and get out and get fresh air at some point in the day

I'm on day 22, or 23...the cabin fever is real. Tomorrow I decide if cherry blossoms are worth risking a train ride.
...probably not.
Tonight, I have spent 4 hrs on pony makers and dressup doll programs.
...10/10, would recommend. Marvelously relaxing, lol.

I have been self isolating as much as possible only going out to buy food a few times and not coming in close contact with anyone while there. I’m already starting to get cabin fever despite trying to distract myself with things I can do inside. The weather has been gloomy or cold most of the week.  I could go outside in the yard at least if it was warm. It’s supposed to  be warmer next week though so that should help.

I'm trying to keep myself occupied but already feel cabin fever setting in.  Here are some of things I've done so for or I am planning to do

Adult Coloring/extreme dot to dot puzzles

Video Games

Watch tv

Watch anime

Reading books that I've put on my "to be read" list

Puzzles

Getting out for a short walk on nice weather days.

Does anyone have any suggestions for other activities? :D

Turned on Pokemon Moon for the first time in 3 years. Couldn't remember anything about where I was or what I was meant to be doing. Randomly managed to stumble on whatever the bad guy town is called. Then got totally lost trying to get back to wherever I was meant to be. But reminded myself how much my Ninetales and co love me xD.

I still have to clean sooo many ponies... when I recorded a new video for my YouTube channel today, I noticed that Mama Sweet Celebrations has a lot of pink spots on the ND page. Now I have to do something against that! Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, welloxon..!!
