Title: What's a good site to list sales/collection?
Post by: Khoufu on January 01, 2020, 12:46:35 PM
I want to list my ponies individually by category, kind of like ecrater but I don't want to do sales directly through ecrater. I just want a gallery with different sections. I was using Google Drive as a personal  checklist but Drive doesn't seem fast enough for casual browsing since it doesn't work well in mobile browsers.

What do you recommend for checklist photos that can be shared (especially for gift giving seasons) and an easy to view sale/trade list?

I used to use Photobucket, since it has the ability to create albums that are subcategories of albums, and you can add notes in the photo description to list prices.  Unfortunately, it's gotten super slow and (probably for that reason) you can only put up 250 pics and it now has tons of ads.  You can see my first sales gallery here though--I definitely didn't organize it as well as I could have:

I hate photobucket. It always crashes my browser and the ads are long and intolerable.

I would recommend https://flickr.com/ It also is now limited (used to be free and unlimited) but it will get the job done.  Easy to make a "sale" folder.  Easy to change photos from "private" to "public" or "view by friends only" if you like.

I actually upgraded to Flicker "pro" because the photos are unlimited- and it isn't TOO expensive for an entire year (Photobucket is ridiculously expensive)  but most people just open multiple accounts if they need more space.

What's the free limit on Flickr?

I forget since I don't have a free account anymore ;)

But it was fairly large.  Just not large enough.

I think Tumblr could work actually? No limit, you can tag posts for searching later (you can have a tag for blue ponies, g3, etc), but you might get some people liking and reblogging your posts, but if you don't say that they're for sale no one will really care, they just like pictures of ponies. You can't search multiple tags at once, unfortunately.

I thought Flickr had a rule that you can't advertise anything for sale on the site? Did that change?

I have Flickr Pro but haven't been active in ages. I just remember all the doll people I followed a couple of years ago labeling sale items as "for adoption" to avoid the rules.

The limit for free accounts on Flickr is 1000 photos.

I use Snupps and Tumblr. Snupps has folders that you want, but Tumblr is pretty much limitless (just a daily post limit afaik), although you might have to spend time to work on a design to make everything look easy for the buyers.

I'd say snupps, it's both an app and a website, and it has a 'list item for sale' kind of option (can't remember what it's called, as I've never used that function, but you can mark something as for sale), and made specifically for collections :)
