Title: G4.5/Reboot Pose Classification Question
Post by: tailrustedtealeaf on September 20, 2019, 12:03:49 PM
I've been working on the new pose page (http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/G4.5_Poses) on the MLW. It's good fun, made me excited to get new ponies again, and a good use of my time.
You see that the Merpony pages aren't existing yet.
My delimma:
I know there weren't many different characters released. The pose page is meant to showcase the variants moreso than anything else, and to serve as an easy to navigate and identify exactly what set a pony is from.
Should I organize the poses according to the tails, or the bodies? Am I overthinking it? I think doing it by body would make more sense because the tails are all interchangible, but I want everyone else's two cents.
...Does anyone else even care about G4.5?  :P

wow you’ve done a great job! thank you!

i assume your question is referring to only mer ponies.  i say organize by body it seems to fit more with the rest of the page.

Not sure if this'll help, but in this case there are just enough poses to call them by name.

 2 baby poses:
Lily Drop: Lily Drop, Jelly Bee, Seafoam, Crystal Pearl

Bubble Splash:
Bubble Splash, Ocean Gem, Sea Poppy, Sun Twist

Rainbowdash:
Pearly Rainbowdash, Flip n Flow Rainbowdash, FS Rainbowdash, Moulded Rainbowdash

2 Rarity: Pearly Rarity and FS Rarity

2 Princess Skystar:
Princess Skystar and FS Princess Skystar

Queen Novo

Haven Bay

2 Applejack Pearly Applejack and FS Applejack

2 Fluttershy:
Pearly Fluttershy and FS Fluttershy

3 Pinkie Pie:
Swimming Pinkie Pie, Flip n Flow Pinkie Pie and FS Pinkie Pie

2 Twilight Sparkle:
Flip n Flow Twilight Sparkle and FS Twilight Sparkle

And there was that little blue merpony that came with the book playset.

Hasbro you and your m6 obsession sucketh.

That was my original thought LaW but making a whole different page for each character just feels unnecessary for characters that were created only once. I classify FS and brushables as different kinds, but I'd feel bad shoving them all in a page together.
I'll probably do the upper body one and just note the tails are interchangible.

I think each character deserves their own page, except maybe one-off blind-bag only characters... A lot of G1s/G2s were only released once, after all.

They do have their own page, but this is talking about the poses. Making an extra pose page for each character seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Its not that difficult to figure out, if you go by the rest of the site's pose pages.

Half n half it  Do the individual poses for the unique characters, then do or add one page with every pose for for the over produced characters.

For example:
Lily Drop has 4 ponies in one pose. Just as all Kimono posed ponies have their little page. That's one page.

Haven Bay, Queen Novo and whats-her-face are unique, so keep their pose seperate. There's three other pages.

Do one page with all of Rainbowdash's poses. Or you can add it to G4 RD's preexisting page. Which is no different then a pony like Gingerbread having more then one pose in different parts of the world.

And so on.

Haven Bay and Skystar have the same exact pose except for the little bits on Skystar's head. hmm.
I was totally misremembering the rest of the ponies, I thought they all shared bodies sometimes...so I guess they all get their own pose pages. Whoopie, how fun. Boo. :P

Ohhhh I get you now, sorry. I think having some similar/one-off poses sharing a page would be fine, I think some of the pose pages do that already?

How about doing it like Peppermint Crunch:  her "pose page" redirects to the Firefly pose page, but because she actually does have differences (different head), she also has her own "subcategory" listed ON the Firefly pose page.

So, like, you could have one pose page based on body, but then separate entries on that page for all the variants due to different heads or tails.

Good idea. Maybe I'll split the other poses based on open or closed mouth, too.
