Title: Does anyone have the original tag that came with the Wedding Prance figurine?
Post by: SpacePinto on September 01, 2019, 08:57:27 PM
What exactly does it say? Does it by any chance mention whether Glory is supposed to be male in it?

What year did it come out? Was Glory supposed to be male? Anyway I'm searching it up

I don't own a tag, but as far as I've seen from photos they only have the name of the piece on it. No description or backstory for each specific piece.

So it's correct to say there was a F/F wedding in Ponyland back in 1985. :) (although the reason it happened is likely because they didn't put much thought into to what gender each pony was supposed to be early on)

That's why I was hoping they didn't simply turn her into a guy here.

Hmm, were there any catalogues featuring these figures? Maybe those would have descriptions.

The wiki has a photo here (http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/File:Wedding-prance.jpg) of the tag - the text isn't too legible in that photo, but it's legible enough that you can see it's the same text as on Medley's tag (http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/File:Porcelain-medley.jpg), so yeah it looks like they all just had the same generic tag.

Realistically speaking, Glory's probably meant to be a dude here. I doubt they were thinking too hard about the ~canon~ or whatever, stuff like that was a heck of a lot more flexible back then. Doesn't really matter, though, it can be whatever we want to be :p

I have catalog scans here, no description I'm afraid. Sorry for the slightly blurry photos, I don't have a scanner. Some interesting differences on a few.

Oh wow, those are awesome, thanks Rhaegar! Sucks that there's no description, but it's still cool ^^ I love old catalogues.

I know they probably just wanted to use Glory as a random stand-in for the "husband", but technically she is still canonically female, so if they didn't explicitly state anywhere that she was supposed to be genderbent here then it would mean that, even if it was unintentional, MLP actually had one of the first modern portrayals of same-sex marriage in western world!

Yep  And besides, Glory was always presented female in everything else she was present in. Books, her backcard story, comics...So most people even then would recognize her as a girl anyway. They’re such a lovely couple, makes my heart swell!!
