Title: Glowing pony hair
Post by: lonewolf on May 03, 2019, 08:20:41 PM
A couple months ago I got me a blue light saber (from Ultra Sabers) at Planet Comicon in Kansas City, and I wanted to see what it looked like in the dark, so that night I took it into the room where the bulk of my pony collection is and turned it on, and to my surprise my shelves lit up with glowing pony hair and some ponies themselves. Examples from G1, 3, and 4 did it. The yellows were the brightest, but red and orange also glowed while everything else remained blue:

I decided to group all of them together and try getting a pic'. Unfortunately the oranges and reds don't show up that good even with enhancement:

What surprised me was this was blue LED light instead of blacklight. Now I want to get one to see if it makes them glow even further. Anyone else try this with their collections?

Oh yes, there are lots of great blacklight photos!

Blue LEDs usually do have some blacklight to them. Also, I, too have an Ultra Saber! Mine is green.

I really must get my eyes tested as I read the thread title as growing pony hair!

Wouldn't that be amazing though if you could, all these poor G1s with hacked off manes and tails, all we'd need to do is sow some seeds in a pot and voila they'd have new hair!

Lol. Cool thread. I had no idea that LEDs have some ultra violet. I assume becasue LED is so low power it is somehow safe? My knowledge of physics is a bit hazy.

Do you keep your ponies in chains when the lights are back on?  I just noticed them. Ok, Tirac. Release these ponies at once!

As a kid I was always convinced my Shady's hair glowed in the dark!

Maybe I was right >.>

Never ever paint a blind bag pony with glow in the dark paint. I did it to one of my Pinkie Pies, let’s just say when I turned my light off to play Among the Sleep on my PS 4 I got scared of Pinkie Pie not the game.

Pinkie Pie is scary generally. Your mistake was giving her extra scare powers ;)

I often wish they'd put glowing threads in Glowing Magic manes and tails...the stars and stuff are pretty in the dark but it would've been a nice gimmick (or maybe on a different set...perhaps on the Starlight Babies instead of tinsel).

Plus thanks to Pinkie Pie I got killed three times, but the funniest thing I painted with glow in the dark paint is Twilight Sparkle’s bum

I held my bf's blue Ultra Saber up to my ponies and other toys. Some pinks and reds glowed, as well as Surprise. Best of all, my Waterfire army's hair all glows except for the plush! Snuzzle and Ivy's hair glowed a bit, and white Valentine twin and the Great Skates blanket.
