Title: Glitter loss comparison
Post by: invaderhorizongreen on December 15, 2018, 02:41:59 PM
Wow what a difference between gen 1 and gen 3

Star hopper just hit 30 years old, is slightly sticky, and has zero glitter loss.

Flower garland just hit 12 and not only is most of it gone, but the head and body are starting to mismatch. As well as her being very sticky. I kinda wonder if part of this is a loss of stabilizer, or possibly environmental condtions.

It's just what the Divine Shine set is like, unfortunately. They aren't anywhere near as well made as the G1 Sparkle Ponies. Divine Shines can suffer discoloration, glitter loss, and stickiness. They're notorious for these issues.

I am just  :cloud: Why did quality go down so fast, and the cute dear is not even HALF of star hoppers age.

That's such a shame!  :(
I thought both of those sets had the glitter embedded in the plastic? Or is it just on the surface on Divine Shine ponies? (Or both sets?)

The glitter is embedded in the plastic on the Divine Shines, but their plastic tends to 'cannibalize' it.  It gets eaten away.

Sounds like a horror movie when I think about it!

  Whoa that's freaky.....
I wonder if the glitter is made of an incompatible type of plastic to the body?
I thought most glitters were made of metals, but that doesn't sound like something that would happen with metal

I have seen brand new in there box still G3 ones with no glitter either! :( Sad to see this, they were so pretty when they came out in the stores! The quality of anything has gone down.

I have only one of these, I think it's Secret Wish, and I deliberately took her out of the box my others were stored in when I learned about this happening to them. She has been somewhat sticky for a while. She does still have a lot of glitter but it's starting to go I think...

I have heard that temperature can speed up the process, it seems to happen quicker in warmer climates - but it is probably inevitable that it will happen to them all in the end :( I'm sorry your pony has lost so much glitter, invaderhorizongreen.

@Ponyfan Glitterbelle seems to get particularly badly affected with the discolouring as well :/ They all go kind of pink though I think, or pinkish orange...

That’s interesting, Taffeta. My Glitterbelle is in the worst conidition of all my Divine Shines even though she is MIB. I always wondered why her head was so discolored but I thought it was because of the glitter dissolving.

My BFF just picked the orange G3 with glitter body in the goodwill bins (name is escaping me) glitter 99% gone. Who says plastic doesn't biodegrade? I think I have glitterbelle in box... Will have to check to see how she has fared in my musty basement. lol
