So, I was letting Youtube's autoplay feature ramble through videos of bootlegs (which I love to watch). Then autoplay queued up a video reviewing Sonic the Hedgehog plushes. In depth. I mean, this guy REALLY knew his stuff. Whereas I have never played a single Sonic game and all I know is that he's gotta go fast. :P
But the guy had a very relaxing voice and he was very positive (as opposed to Youtuber's who have a trademark of being sarcastic or absurdly angry), so I just let the videos play while I scanned comics, etc, despite not knowing anything about Sonic. (Seriously, the guy showed plushes of "classic Sonic" and "modern Sonic" and I couldn't tell the difference, lol.)
I really respect a collector who is knowledgeable and detail oriented, no matter what they collect! And this guy had saved sooo much information about Sonic the Hedgehog plushes, like "and in 2002 this plush sold on eBay for $120 (*fades in screenshot of the auction*)". Well, aside from eBay, Sonic plushes are sometimes sold on Yahoo Japan etc. So on a whim, I went and typed in "Takara pony".

Let the hyperventilating begin!! I bookmarked the page, of course, and checked the end time. Five AM my time. SO BE IT. I set my alarm clock for 4:30 AM.
Let me tell you, I was surging with adrenaline. I was so amped up that the genes inherited by my hominid ancestors fully expected me to have to wrestle a saber-toothed tiger any second. :drunk: In the end I got her (after a bidding war).
So the lesson here is . . . watch random videos? I don't know. I don't know.

This is the "hair" prototype for Ami Ami. But I am calling her Frostfire after my Alolan Ninetales in Pokemon Sun. Don't judge me.

They didn't give her eyes. (But hey, at least they gave her all her limbs!)

Her "main" hair is pulled back in a ponytail.

"My kimono now." (Actually Russ Trolls clothes doesn't fit that great, Takara ponies are a bit chubbier around the middle.)

Tag that, according to Japanese speaking roommate, says something about: pony, hair, flocking (she thinks this is also a reference to hair though--pony has regular plastic body, not flocked ;) ), tea (she said maybe having to do with the color of hair?? maybe??), Ami Ami (her name), test. She also said the handwriting was terrible, LOL.

WHOA LUCKY YOU!

Ahh. I always forget about Yahoo!Japan.
Anyone got $2,200 I can borrow for the Fuwafuwa that's up right now still in her box? $2k seems generous for something in-box, what was the price for an eyeless prototype? ;) A lucky find!! And an important piece of pony history...
-
Holy! Wow what a score! Huuuuge congrats :D
-
Amazing :o is this perhaps the first Takara prototype to even surface?!
-
:P Threw me for a bit. I see it on another site, not yahoo. I think if she would of been on yahoo the bidding would of been more vicious.
congrats!
-
Wow. Huge congrats! You must be thrilled to not only have a Takara but a prototype! :frolic:
-
Huge congrats! I might be a little jealous, haha!

Congrats! She is cute, even without her eyes :P

TAKARA HOLY CRAP! She's an amazing find! Who knew a Sonic video would lead you here?
Her braids are absolutely gorgeous. She's a crown jewel in your collection to be sure. It's awesome she even has productions notes. Are you going to give her eyes or leave her as is?

They're kind of addictive, aren't they? Also the Sonic franchise has a lot more characters than I thought. (There's a crocodile?)

 XD You evoked quote the vivid imagery there!! Anyhow, a huge congrats on the Takara prototype. I am so psyched for you! :woot: :hearts: She is SO adorable and I adore her color!
-
What an interesting pony! Congrats on snagging her :lovey:
-
Oh. My. GOD! That is the stuff of dreams and fantasies!
-
Oh wow, I've never seen that before. Hell until fairly recently, o one I knew in pony land had ever had an actual Takra, period. Just the fakies that pop up sometimes. This is weird and cool. Congrats C:
-
Also, can I ask...how much did you pay for her? Feel free not to answer but this seems like one of those ‘priceless’ kind of finds that is either super lucky, or super expensive. Or both!
-
Oh wow, what an amazing find!! She's gorgeous <3 Congrats!

Are those the vids with those kids playing with their toys? Those are hilarious!

Yeah unfortunately the Japanese sellers on Yahoo are generally wise to the fact that people in the West will pay silly money for these and the prices have gone insane. If you got a deal on that site, LM, well done you.
It's harder to see on the screen but the handwriting could be worse xD At least it's legible. From what I can see it says Pony ochame fashion - AmiAmi hair, confirmation of production sample. I would say mihon is sample, rather than test. THe documentation is pretty much just confirming that's what she is. It's also stamped - with characters that look to be 久保. I guess that would be the name of someone who signed it off. If I'm right about the 2nd character, as I can't see the full radical properly. But it looks like that and its common for Japanese to stamp rather than sign. The name would probably be "Kubo" if that's what it is...
It's such a cool find, and so lucky to be there at the right time. It must have been fate!
Awesome acquisition, congrats :)

AMAZING!!!!!! :wow:
