Any ponies you regret buying? For me, I'm not too sure...

I had a baity Sweet Stuff I bought, that I regretted. Major mane cut and pvc breakdown. My daughter has her now and wants to send her off to a customizer to turn her into a TE Daddy Berrytown. We're both getting replacements.

Can't say I have too many, just ponies that ended up being worse off than expected. I picked up a lot that was incredibly mixed in quality, so now I'm stuck with a baity Majesty and don't feel like buying a new one...

I regret paying $75 for the SDCC 2010 exclusive graffiti "Pony Power" pony. She's not even the aqua hair variant, regular 'ol purple. Oh well. Still love her!

Big Mac!   I think I dropped him in the parking lot on the way home from Target.  Didn’t even get a chance to debox him.

I’ve been so grumbly at myself for that, I can’t even look at him in stores without remembering and walking away annoyed.

August Birthflower.  I'm actually happy to have her (that's my birth month so she was the only one I wanted) but I think I overpaid, because she was my birthday present to myself last year.  One of her symbols had more rubs than I would have liked... I probably should have held out for a price a tad lower.

I bought a MIB taf baby up up and away. I’ve never wanted to open a pony more in my entire life, so she stayed with me for a week and then she went off to eBay. The market was bad for selling, and I listed her 5 times with a buy it now of $150 OBO. After weeks of sitting on eBay I finally accepted a best offer of $75. I was devestated that she didn’t sell for more since I traded some really great ponies for her and in the end I lost out of $$$. :(

I regret it more now that the market is stable and taf babies prices are fetching good dollars!

Mimic.
She was listed as 'no marks or flaws', had ink under her hooves. Got a partial refund but it still bugs me.

One small regret! Bought a pony I was pretty excited for, overpriced but I didn't care because I liked the seller and wanted to support them... got her home and found a huge, obvious haircut. >.< Like, it sorta looks like she has one of those feathered Farrah Fawcett haircuts; it's all different lengths, even if technically it still wraps around her neck and looks halfway decent if you don't look closely. I think I paid like $23 for her, and she is NOT a HTF pony. I figured, $23 means I'm paying for a super high quality pony! Nope. :x OH PHEW I went back and I checked cuz I was mad all over again, I paid under $10 for her!! Phew!! Okay I feel better now! :P

Hmmm, I don't think I could say I've regretted any purchases, but I have been disappointed a few times. Most often because of G4 hair quality- some ponies I've bought have hair that feels awful, which always makes me sad. I still like their colours enough to want to keep them though.

Oooo! Me! Me! I regret buying 25th anniversary Windy. Not for the pony herself - she was $6 - but because the seller did not ship to SA and I had to use the reshipping agent. Well, they have introduced a "fantastic new money-saving product"! Hooray! Read: Using the Post Office. It cost me $25 to post that pony (who I have not as yet received), and I did not have a say as to whether or not they used that 'wonderful new product' or the regular boring old run of the mill courier. Which was what I wanted them to do. As it costs the same amount of money and takes 2 weeks. Now I have to wait 3 months. RantRant. I'm still so upset >.<

Guess who will be closing their account once the pony eventually arrives?

I would say my pony regrets fall into 3 categories: I paid too much for the pony by not knowing the values well, the pony I got was different than pictured, and ponies I buy online then soon after find in the wild

I've had several instances where only a few weeks after paying market price for a pony I find one at the thrift store or garage sale haha so I feel like I wasted that 10-20$

Most recently I bought a Dainty Dahlia from someone I've purchased from several times, she isn't the best seller (poor pictures, often priced over market) but sometimes she has decent deals. Anyhow the dainty Dahlia is so rough, hair cut, discolored in several ways, pen mark eyeshadow etc. So I quite wish I hadn't bought her haha...

My second takara.. patience meant I could of gotten another for a fraction of the cost. But I got most of my money back with selling her (and replaced her with the cheaper one).

But REALLY -- more than that-- it's all the little $1-5 ponies that I bought because "pony".. I felt like I was drowning in ponies, they were hard to sell, and that just adds up. That bothers me way more.

I've never regretted buying a pony, but I've regretted paying too much for said ponies.  It's one of Murphy's Laws though, isn't it?  No matter how long or hard you shop for an item, as soon as you buy it you'll find it on sale somewhere else for a better price. Happens more often than not, I'm afraid!

Same here. A few weeks back I ordered All About Tempest from a third party seller on Amazon for $11 or so (before tax/shipping so the total was more), because we had all given up hope that Wave 4 would be appearing in the US. Now of course in the last week Wave 4 is starting to appear throughout the country. :pout:

It wasn't me who bought it, but I regret that my friend payed $30 USD for the Pony Bride he bought me for Christmas last year. She had beautifully styled hair (which got partially ruined during shipping) and not a single blemish on her vinyl, but she has a bent front leg, so like.. yeah.

I still love her, regardless, but man, he could've gotten one for way less than $30 + shipping.

While I don’t regret buying any ponies, as I love everybody in my herd, I do regret buying more than I have the space for. Everybody is like a sardine can on the shelves... and all my g4 are in the basement,in a box...

The only one I can think of right now is the SS Gusty I bought on Etsy. I felt she was a little over priced but she looked really nice in the photos. When she arrived, turns out she was super duper yellowed. Her flocking was thick and plush and it's not the same after washing. Then it took a year of sunfading to get her to an acceptable almost white. I do love her and wouldn't get rid of her but her condition was pretty disappointing and she took a lot of work to get her into decent shape.

Otherwise it's all the ones I bought on ebay for ok prices plus shipping and then found a week later at the thrift store for $2. That's always annoying.

The only ones I really regret are the Rainbow Power tinsel hair G4s. They are great ponies but the Friendship Festival box set rendered them obsolete. How was I supposed to know there would be a new improved set with leg glitter and new poses?

I'm also sorta feeling it about the Mane 6 pearly ponies since learning about the Best Gift Ever sets but I can at least save those for new character customs.

Yes, I do regret some Ponies I bought online locally. Somehow, the local BST site in Norway has understood that Ponies might fetch good money. They put them up for sale for much more than they are worth ( i.e. Posey for 20$). They have no clue though, so they sell them for high prises even though they are dirty, and have markings or hair cuts. I did buy a lot with white Tootsie, pale Powder and Pinwheel. I specifically asked the seller if there was any flaws on them, and she ensured me that they were just dirty. When they arrive Pinwheel has lots of glitter loss on her symbols, which I could forgive- but Powder was missing a piece of her horn. That is a huge flaw and Even someone who doesn’t know anything about ponies should have noticed it!!

I was bummed, but luckily white Tootsie was in nice shape ;) I don’t buy from that site anymore though. It is just super annoying to see all those baity Ponies for 20-30$.

I regret picking up some g3.5 and g4 ponies at goodwill. They are a mess and I haven’t taken the time to untangle their hair. But, what I regret more is selling ponies that I wish I had kept.

During my first few years of collecting, I went through a 'Gotta Catch 'Em All' phase, resulting in me having a couple hundred ponies.

I've sold off most of them over the years, but... like Einhornbaby, I wonder how many of my actual 'wants' I could have purchased with that money. </3

I hear you on that one...  I have told myself that if I find G1 ponies at the thrift store, unless they are unusual or HTF for that set, I am NOT buying them.  Last week I went into Value Village and there were so many G4s that weren't the core characters!!!! but I remembered how I didn't sell ANY G4 at my yard sale and I do not want those ponies to take up space on my shelves when I get bored of them.  So I hope another collector who appreciates G4 found them.

I regret buying Sea Pony Rarity. After years of holding off getting any G4s, she finally got me to cave with her pearly, purple, glittery seapony goodness. But then I had to get her some more sea friends, of course, and the babies are so cute, and ooooo giant Mer-Rarity, and why not some of the other pearly G4s while I'm at it, and now I'm sad that can't find a pearly Redheart, and arrrrgh.... Look what you did, Rarity!

I regret a little that when the G3 line was out in stores that I wasn't a little more picky about what/who I bought during that time period. I have quite a lot of them sitting in plastic storage drawers. They were bought, opened (most of them) and then most went right into storage.

I have a fair amount of ponies I regret buying.  It's mostly due to me not liking them that much and feeling bad about the money involved and the space issues they've created.  I unfortunately have a serious case of the collecting bug, so it's very hard for me to just buy one pony in a set, or to pass up any playset no matter how uninspired.  I've been working on curbing my "gotta get 'em all!" problem with the G4s.  I have managed to pass up quite a bit, so at least the flow of low want ponies has slowed.

These include:
Pretty much all the G3 "So Soft Newborns" - don't like 'em, and they're huge, and nobody wants them, so even using them as trade/sale fodder isn't an option.
That creepy G3 dancing/talking rubber Pinkie Pie - I never really wanted the pony, but I did want the bonus ponies and accessories that it came with.  Now I have this giant box with a freaky rubber pony in it, and nowhere to put it.
Some of the more boring G4 playsets and ponies.

That giant stinkin movie set with queen Novo.  That was a horrible waste of $100.  Also, that talking Twilight Sparkle plush, you know, the one that looks like a FurReal Friend.  Why did I ever buy that?   I don’t have really any G1 regrets.  I guess I’d have to say I regret buying Mimic (don’t have her anymore...she was sold).  It’s not that I strongly disliked her...it was just...an underwhelming experience, buying her.  I paid over $100 and thought “eh”, as soon as I had her.

Baity Main Sail, buying a moldy Lemon Drop instead of cheap big brother ponies, buying the G1 bride pony instead of decently priced dance 'n prance ponies, a very baity Beach Ball and a baity Flower Bouquet. Just, why did I, how stupid can a beginner collector be and how stupid decisions can 'no pony left behind' logic lead to.

My newest regret:

Spoiler
visitors can't see pics , please register or login

There are no stores within driving distance of me that carry the 35th anniversary ponies, and somehow it's cheaper to get them imported on Amazon.com than it is to buy them on Amazon.ca.

There goes a big portion of my computer fund, but I really just wanted some MiB G1 ponies, even if they're repros.

I think the only real pony buying regret I have is the multiple g3s I got at the thrift store. First of all, the thrift store writes the prices on ink on the bottom of their hooves, second they're all a really dirty white that I've been trying to clean up but it won't work, third their hair is all weird and choppy and would rather separate into sections rather than actually stick together, lastly they aren't even worth much. I know it's not all about the money, but it makes me wonder what I'm going to do with them in the future when I'm most likely gonna have to sell them so I can move away.
I hope with g5 the g3s will be worth just a smidge more amount of money...The only real reason I buy every pony I see at the thrift shop (well...almost everypony) is because I know the kids in my town aren't...the kindest to toys and I don't want to see an okay pony turn into a bait pony. I guess that makes me kinda selfish in a way. I don't know.

The thrift store writes on the ponies with ink?! Oh my lord I would be furious  why would they think someone would want their pony written on? For heavens sake

And thats not selfish! I do the same thing with buying ponies sometimes to make sure they arent abused. Not that I would ever pass up any sort of pony, but especially with Fakies which i dont usually collect, i'll buy them to keep them from being thrown in the trash. All ponies deserve love and a safe home.
-

Ive never regretted buying a pony, I've felt bad about spending money.. Especially the 35th anniversary ones. I bought them all in one day along with several g4s. It was over $100 for just one visit to Target I felt so awful... I told myself I wasnt gonna do that again.

I have been disappointed tho, I bought a sweet heart sister pony for a friend last year and when I got her she had several hair plugs empty and her earring was broken off.  I still love her to death tho <3 it just really sucks when trying to do something special for someone and you get it and the person hadnt disclosed the full condition.

I regret buying the G4 ponies. I never totally loved them to begin with and now it seems like they are hard to sell.
I also regret not having enough space for all my lovely G3 ponies I have in storage boxes. Not having them on display makes me feel guilty about having them at all.
