What colour hair would you give her?
So I haven't done any pony rerooting for about 15 years, but I found a while back a Galaxy which I have had for a really long time. She has absolutely no hair on her at all. None. Clearly she came to me as a bait, although her body is clean, her symbols are there and her eyes are mostly ok. So I have thought for a long time that she should have hair.
The problem is I don't know what colour/s to give her. Should her mane and tail match? What colour combinations would work well? I am not looking to recreate Galaxy's colour scheme, because I don't do restorations and without her real hair she's essentially already half a custom to me. But she can't stay like this. So I would like to give her a new look. But I am having trouble working out what look would work best.
So if you had a bald Galaxy, what colour/s would you give her?
And in case anyone is wondering, I will be marking her hoof as a rehair if/when I get her finished, because that's what I personally believe in doing :)

I always thought it was weird for Galaxy to be a space themed pony and be so bright.
Royal blue
GitD
Deep purple
Metallic Gray
-
Hmm. Maybe I'd stay around her warm color scheme and do a pink to red to orange gradient? LaW's suggestions of purple and blue would be nice, too!
-
She has a bit of purple in her symbol plus her warm color scheme so maybe this:
Orange
Red
Pink
Magenta
It's a bit close to the original but still different. Or you could try:
Aqua
White
Pink
Magenta
Which is a bit cooler than the original.

Going off of Dollyhair's hair colors (although if you don't want to order from them then you can just find similar colors ^.^)
IN ORDER FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE HEAD DOWN TO THE NECK
Raspberry Sorbet
Venom
Sour Grapes
Forget Me Not
or
In Any order:
Sour Grapes
After Midnight
Pacific Ocean
Blue Moon
Or you could mix and match those colors if you want! Glow in the dark would also be a cool idea...and if you wanted to be really ambitious you could paint glow in the dark swirls all over her legs, like the swirls of a galaxy ;)

I'd rehair her to match this painting of the Unicorn nebula.

That’d be so cool!! that nebula is beautiful

I'm gonna be weird and say either all dark purple or dark blue with either one white or one yellow stripe.
-
I would stay with the traditional four-color hair for TEs and use very dark blue, lavender, deep red, and either white or very pale grey. (Not necessarily in that order.)
-
Hrm, lots of ideas XD. When I get home I will try to dig her out and photograph her so you can see the victim...
I am going to add that while I can reroot with no problems, I'm not an artist and I'm not going to be trying to add or change anything on her body, so no added paintwork or anything like that. Years and years ago I did make baby versions of Parasol and Masquerade and they are still surviving and look ok, but those are fairly simple :) Galaxy is going to stay as Galaxy. Just with new hair ;)
The nebula picture is pretty but I wouldn't know where to begin. I can see all the colours in it but I wouldn't be able to apply that to rehairing.
-
I've had some fun rehairing in two colours, one on each side. Depending upon how you brush/style the hair the pony can have different looks. For the tail just layer up the colours so they look striped.
For Galaxy perhaps dark purple like black cherries down the right hand side, undersown with a strong terracotta?
-
Oh to have a bald Galaxy! I would probably choose a rich dark purple with a white (or glow in the dark) streak. Dying to see the lucky pony :)

I find these alternate hair colors from one UK comic story pretty interesting! :)

^ argh I just love those original drawings so much!
Can I be a pain and say that I love Galaxy's original colours so much that I'd never change them. However, I would re-hair her with poofy yarn hair and possiibly some glitter strands and tiny stars too.
-
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys :)
I have to say the comic image tempts me as doing something that related to my childhood is very compelling.
I;m also going to reiterate that I am not going to rehair her in her original colours.

Yes it is! I would go with these, they look so nice together.

If I had her as bald, I would to GITD on display top half of hair and then on nds I'd go sugarberry. (Galaxy Bacon pony for the win!)

That's terrible! XD

Oh, that's lovely! I would have never thought that primaries+pink would look like anything but a circus, but Galaxy really pulls it off!

The comic was so much a part of my childhood that I'm deeply tempted to go with that image and try to match it as best I can.
Does anyone care to hazard a guess what the closest shades might be? I haven't bought hair in a long time and it's always hit and miss with Dollyhair to the UK, but at least knowing the info would be good. I'm not teaching till October so it will have to wait till then, probably - but that gives me time to dig Galaxy out of whichever box I put her in. I think she's hiding under the table in my room with a headless Draculaura.

Staying in the realm of colors Hasbro used for MLP at the time, I'd say:
Red: Sugarberry
Pink: Heartthrob
Blue: Water Nixie
Yellow: maybe Butterfly or Golden Delicious
Eschewing historical context and using my eyeballs to best-match the images on my screen:
Red: Pomme d'Amour
Pink: Strawberry Mousse
Blue: Water Nixie
Yellow: This one is hard. It looks like sort of a sandy yellow, clearly a different shade than whatever is just out of frame to the right. Somewhere in between Butterfly and Golden Sun? I think I remember mylittlecustoms carrying a slightly different range of yellows than dollyhair, so maybe there's a better match to be had elsewhere.
Colors, man... :drunk:
-
I wonder if a blend of colours would work for the golden yellow section?
Also, I wonder whether rooting should be in the traditional stripes of Hasbro or whether it should be a bit more mixed given the way it's illustrated with red at the front and further back...
