Title: MLP The Movie Tempest Thoughts
Post by: Majesty on August 20, 2018, 01:52:17 PM
So I watched the movie for the first time in firestick since I was all caught up with season 8 after deciding to give season 8 a chance.  I enjoyed both season 8 so far and the movie.  I loved Tempest as a villain.  My aggravation is that all the villains end up reformed by the end of the show, well except The Storm King and Chrysalis.

So, I feel like if Tempest was reformed somebody should have fixed her horn.  Twilight telling her that her horn was powerful as it was was just completely unfair.  If someone took away Twilight's horn I'm sure she'd want it back no matter what people said about how powerful she was without it.  I mean, yeah she could produce massive sparks and light shows and what not but even after that she just wanted to feel complete and she was used and tricked by The Storm King.

I do hope though we see Tempest again in another episode.  I realize she revealed her true name but I hope if we see her again it's how she was in the movie and she doesn't let her hair grow out and be all sparkly pretty or something.

I personally like that her horn didn’t get fixed.  To me it’s like a person who looses a limb.  They can get all depressed and angry and totally fixated on what they *can’t* do instead of accepting the loss and moving forward and concentrating on what they *can* do.  Fixing her horn would take the attention off of the idea that she had to choose to change her attitude and that having suffered a loss doesn’t excuse her from making bad choices.

Yeah that's true.  I looked on amazon and there are actually some toys of her with a full horn, someone made a mistake.   Well, never mind it's just mostly horn with the tip broken off instead of mostly horn gone like it should be.

Off topic a little but I really want the Tempest build a bear plush but I'm worried about them not putting enough stuffing in the neck and legs. I know you can put in the comments when you order for them to do that but will they actually?  I had Luna and Rarity original releases and the necks bent after some time and stayed that way.  I'm worried Tempest will sell out soon.

I like tempest, for her design and character. Personally, I wouldn’t want her horn to be restored. I mean, it would be great for her to have it back. But I think it would be better to show that even with that, she changed her personality and look on life. Restoring it just seems kinda...lame at this point, I guess? Like it’s not needed.

I really love Tempest. If you're interested in Tempest's backstory there's a book called "The Stormy Road to Canterlot" that explains how she broke her horn, got involved with the Storm King and why Queen Novo reacts so harshly when she catches Twilight trying to steal the pearl.

I like Tempest's broken horn too.  :) She blamed her young filly friends for abandoning her after she broke her horn trying to protect them (they become scared because she has trouble controlling her magic)  and left Equestria eventually and became one of the Storm King's officers in exchange for the promise of fixing her horn.

Tempest needed to come to terms with the decisions  she made and the consequences of her actions on others.  Leaving her horn damaged shows Tempest that she has the power to choose for herself whether she will become a better pony or continue making bad descions and that she can still be a member of society even with a broken horn.

I still call her Tempest even though she told her true name in the movie.  :)

For me, the fact her horn wasn't fixed is all about "accepting yourself like you are, rebuilding confidence in yourself" instead of "keeping miserable with what you don't have/had lost". And that's a true message, the end is perfect this way

If her horn had been fixed I would have rolled my eyes. Because restoring handicaps is some lazy writing Jesus stuff. We have seen paralyzed ponies and ponies with eyepatches in this series. If they had healed her horn it would raise the question why not all ponies deserve to be healed  ;)

Loved Tempest in the movie.  Honestly, I’d have loved for her horn to get fixed, but I understand why they decided to go the route of not fixing her.  It just would have been nice for her to no longer be broken after her reformation...  Plus, though the broken horn looked cool when she was “Tempest Shadow”.  It looks a little ridiculous on a “Fizzlepop Berrytwist”.
