Hi,
I was looking at YouTube and found this video that someone made of the animation used in the early MLP commercials. Can anyone identify what commercial the opening animation is from that features Twilight, Bowtie, Seashell, Applejack, Firefly and Spike? I didn't realize Moondancer was animated in two commercials (Dream Castle and this one) or that Twilight was even animated in the commercials at all. Could this be animation that was made and not used?

I've been meaning to start a thread about that commercial. I distinctly remember the song from an early commercial for the first unicorns, pegasi, and non-CP earth ponies, though I don't remember the images very well. I think it probably goes to the one you're talking about. I've got some animation cels from it too.

No, that commercial was for that run of ponies. It was definitely aired. It's cobbled together from several commercials, and it was the reason I didn't like the look of the cartoon as much.

I bet you're right kellyponyfeathers. :) I don't remember that commercial but it does fit with the animation shown at the beginning. :) It must be one of the rarer commercials because I don't think I've seen it on YouTube at all.

I thought it was just a fan tribute to the animator, I didn't realize it was a real commercial that aired. That's very interesting. :)

It's more like all the commercials from late 1983 and early 1984 jammed together with one theme song put over top of it. So in a way it is a tribute. I didn't see anything in there that didn't hit the nostalgia pangs pretty hard, though.

Hmm...I most definitely want to know more. I can’t ifentify this advertisement, but it does seem like a number of early animations put together. Not advertising anything specific like a playset, but just the franchise in general.

It must have been posted on YouTube fairly recently. (Edit: looks like it was 2016.) I had looked for that commercial before, but couldn't find it. I'm glad it hasn't been completely lost to time! FYI: I remember it showed Firefly during that "bounding/bouncing" line. Obviously "sitting" referenced Bubbles and Seashell, and "turning" was Bow-tie and Applejack.
And I'm sure you're right; that video is a compilation of the opening animations from a bunch of the early commercials under one song; must be a fan tribute.
While we're on the subject of lost commercials from the early days, I remember an alternate version of the So Soft commercial. It still showed Baby Lickety Split snuggling with Wind Whistler saying, "I love nuzzling up to you, Wind Whistler; you're so soft!" So it was mostly the same. But this one also included video of a pretty blond teenage girl in a dress petting a light gray horse. I grew up in Missouri, so it must have aired there.

This is an 80's commercial video on YouTube. At around 4:58 it has an alternate So Soft/Twinkle Eye ponies commercial with Angel, Quackers and a bushwoolie instead of Baby Lickety Split and Wind Whistler.

I hope we see the full unicorn, pegasi and sitting ponies comercial someday. :) I know the Rainbow ponies commercial with the animation of Skydancer and Starshine sliding down the rainbow is pretty rare also.

The person who put together the video said they had done a little documentary on the animator who drew those bits. So I wonder if someone asked them nicely if they would upload the complete commercial. :)

Someone asked in the comments if the person who uploaded it had access to the commercial the first few seconds is from and they recommended contacting the animator for the commercial.

I don't even remember seeing some of these commercials, although some of them seemed to have been shortened or changed. The ones I remember the most are the ones with the theme song my little pony mommy.

That Rainbow pony clip Safflower posted is interesting. :) I know part of it was used for the first Rainbow ponies commercial but it was also included in some VHS copies of Rescue at Midnight Castle.
