Title: Toysrus display
Post by: Gator on April 04, 2018, 01:39:37 PM
Someone here at the arena posted that they acquired a G4 display case from Toys r Us (can't recall if it was here, brag section, or elsewhere).

I just collect G1, not G4, but with the Toysrus stores going out of business, I wonder if I should make an offer on the display at my store to have as a collectors item or possibly sell/trade to a G4 collector.

Would there be much interest for this type of item?  Or go ahead and get it and sell it down the road if collector value goes up?

Wouldn't hurt to ask.

You should try-  legally they are required to destroy licensed displays- but in practice....  that doesn't always happen.  Plus what do they care at this point if Hasbro finds out?

I asked at my local store about purchasing the display but they said they had to return it to the vendor.  But you might get a different answer.

I did mention that I was interested in it and planned to get it, I didn't actually get it yet. I was afraid they'd have to return it to the vendor, but I'll be sure to ask.

It doesn't hurt to ask. but I've heard from someone I know that works for Target and she said the displays are supposed to be destroyed after they're no longer needed, but I've also seen a few displays that people have been able to buy slip through.

You should definitely ask! When CD Warehouse went out of business (man, I'm old...) I asked to buy their Metallica display and they let me. It was a good investment :D

Never hurts to ask :) I'd say go for it, worst that can happen is they'll say no.

I went by my TRU today and all of the displays were gone.  So if you intend to ask at your local store, you should do it asap.

Totally depends on the store and who is working! Back when target had the G4 canterlot stuff they had a giant Celestia one. I went to the 5 targets near me and asked. At the last one I still got rejected saying they have to return them or destroy them. A guy worker around my age overheard and was a total sweetheart! He said him and his friend who also work there are allowed to take them all the time. He said he has a ton of superhero ones lol. He said he would ask about it and if another worker didn't already have dibs he would put his name on it and give it to me. Wasn't sure it would actually work or if he would remember months later, but he did. I got my Celestia display :)

Ya that’s usually the way it is. I know the store I work at won’t allow CUSTOMERS to get hold of that stuff, but the employees are free to have it.
