I shared this on another thread but I thought I'd share it on it's own thread...
The interesting aspect, 'collector ponies' even back in 1986

I posted stuff on the other thread, but I really, really want to see more of this side of the US MLP release. I feel like we don't see that enough, it gets sidelined by the animation or the ID page stuff, but this kind of thing is precious too. I'm glad you shared it <3. I'd love to see any more similar things from the US line, personally. Or from other lines. It's so cute xD.

How about the...postcard of disappointment.

I have some letters from hasbro like that. They're at home though :( Letters telling me that MLP is no longer in production, here's a couple of free teeny tiny ponies for your collection though. And other similar. Those are from 1995. I don't know how Mum and Dad got Lemon Drop arranged but I think they just wrote to them based on the address on the card and Hasbro sent them Lemon Drop to go with my second hand stable. :/ I don;t know if they had to buy her or if it was a freebie.
You had the advantage of being older in the middle 1980s though to write and ask those things when the thing was in production. I was 5 in 1987. If I'd been older, I'd have written and asked why it was impossible to find Medley and company :/ Love to know what they'd have said to that question.

I don't remember them ever sending me free stuff, so the UK Hasbro seems a bit nicer, the USA one didn't send me any freebies that I can think of.
Yea, I've got some other standard letters and then one hand written one about whatever I was asking for. I think the hand written was because I had damage to paradise estate or something and wanted to know if I could get the piece that was damaged...I don't think I was able to becuase I eventually found it when ebay rolled around, etc.

I love old stuff like this.

Me too! Thanks for sharing!!

Wait a minute. A show in the Show Stable that's a beauty contest? Lemon Drop would be appalled ;) Surely a showjumping contest is more appropriate?? Or is this a subtle plug for kids to buy the Pageant Queen outfit as well...??

"...and will not be available to you again....." well until the 25th anniversary set, but surely never ever again....well until the 35th anniversary set, but we swear that's the final time..... maybe.
:)

The 50th anniversary will be the last...the 75th for sure...100th?
-
This pamphlet also calls them Collector Ponies. :)

Haha...yea. I dont know that back in 1986 they were thinking about 2018, or what mlp would be. We do know that they were less likely to remanufacture some ponies, as my disapointment postcard shows they never remade tickle. Even when some of the rainbow ponies made it to mail order status she didnt.
So whoever wrote that at hasbro was thinking probably the next couple years...not 30 years in the future.

At least you got Tickle >.>
Back on point, is Tickle illustrated in the fliers for the Rainbow Pony mail order? I did wonder whether that offer comprised the rainbow ponies that were coming to the UK but didn't get here, but if it's not a complete set maybe not? Also, is Tickle more difficult to find second hand for you guys? Makes me wonder about production in general, as I haven';t seen a European style Rainbow card without Tickle pictured on it (just ones missing Flutterbye and Starflower respectively).

Actually I never got her new in store. I only was able to find her many years later at a flea market. I like to thank Nascar for Tickle, because I would have never found her had I not been attending a Nascar race and happen to go to the random flea market. It was kinda weird how it worked out seeing as Tickle was nicely bagged in a plastic bag and it was only one of a couple ponies the lady had but it was a joyous moment for me that I can't describe. I was so overjoyed that I even asked the pony as I took her out of the bag; 'where the hell have you been, I've been looking for you for 10 years' :p

The feeling I had when Glory and Moondancer showed up at a carboot sale randomly in 1996...'where have you two been all my childhood?'

SO cool to see. I recently found my card of regret from G3 but that's not as cool as a the one from 1986... it was made on a typewriter! What kids here have used one of these machines? ;p
-
What a great story! I started reading the flyer and for a second thought they had attached it to the new reissue. I used a typewriter to type my homework through my senior year of high school (1995). Somewhere I have a vintage 50s one that I'd use if it would work. Keeping it old school. :art:

Here is another scan of the original 6. I forget but am thinking this came with the mail order version of them, I know i never aquired some of these ponies in store back in the day so I think some of mine are MO. So this pamphlet may have potentially come with the ones I ordered...I just dont' remember at this point.

I actually decided to make myself a facebook page to add my pony stuff. I had been wanting to do it for a while, plus since photobucket turned into a money hangry beast it's easier to share photos from facebook. I'm hoping to eventually at least have pictures of my individual ponies and most of my pamphlets and other stuff on there, but as I add one there I'm also trying to post it here if it's relevant.

I was gonna put an official MLP think on my facebook collection page, but instead I found this while looking through my big red pony binder. I hand made wedding invitations for the NC Pony meet in 2010.
