Cool topic!

Personally, I'd like to know whether there are any G2 'nirvana' ponies out there?? I know that the Lavender Lagoon website lists some variants and prototypes, but I'm curious to know if there are many others? Because there are a bunch of different G1 nirvanas, but I've never seen people discussing the equivalent in G2...

Sought after and rarest are often 2 different beasts. I also think we have to count Nirvana as a separate category because some Nirvana are common and some are rare. Mimic is sought after. Not necessarily rare. Ponies like pink Sprinkles are rare...but not necessarily sought after.

Nirvana is a G1 term, but I don't think there are any G2 "nirvanas" really.

I know most of the later G2s can be harder to find, but I'm not sure if they're rarer, exactly :s

Ponies like Seabreeze, and her spanish version would count as HTF/sought after g2s. I think also the baby ponies that came with the magazine, Nosy and Click. The boat playset twins aren't too common, either, are they?
But yeah, g2 is pretty overlooked tbh, and I don't think we usually apply the term "nirvana" to them :S And like Carrehz said, the later year g2s are all a bit harder to find, if you're in the US. (and sometimes here in Europe, too).

G3 I would say ribbon and hearts (taobao pony), rosey Posey, bay breeze, trolley and Frisco, aqua hair comic con (taobao pony), there is also a maroon haired 2011 comic con as well (taobao pony)

G4 rainbow flash and starswirl, they aren't so much rare but very pricey and sort after

G1 south African ponies is the country where all the ponies are expensive, there are many ooaks or limited numbered ponies from all around the globe which are expensive as well like trotting pose Italy firefly, yellow greek moondancer and there is many ooaks vennies

My friend in Canada found me Holly Dash.  She is super HTF in North America for sure though.

Yeah, it is, as well as the mansion playset, and I think the Holiday at the Countryside and Holiday at the Beach playsets are pretty uncommon, as well.
Lots of pretty, uncommon g2 items out there when you start digging into it xD

A g2 that's not a late year release but pretty sought after and goes for a bit higher is Hip Holly (http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Hip_Holly)  :)

Yeah, Holly Dash seems to have hit bits of Canada and I think for a short time somewhere in Texas, so she's not strictly European. It seems to have happened because of the dock strike over there, rather than intentionally making her an exclusive. I can only think that a whole lot of her will appear on our second hand market in the next few years, though, as there were plenty in the UK for a short period. I think we got a lot of the US share. I also know she showed up in Holland I think as well?

There's Starswirl and...is it Rainbow Flash or something like that that didn't get a widespread release? I remember Starswirl because she never appeared in the UK...I found her in Lille in France. O.o

I think from g2 the alternate versions Seabreeze and Blue Pearl are more hard to find than the G2 babies from later years. And some other variations exist too like White Pearl with a white hair streak.
G3 I would go for Rosey Posey, Bay Breeze. And I recall G3.5 the plain version of Toola Roola was hard to find.

The G2 colour variants for sure!

Blue haired Blue Pearl
Blonde White Pearl aka Blondie
Alt. coloured Seabreeze

After that probably Golden Glow II and the magazine twins.

Are you meaning ponies sold to the general public  through normal distribution or does this include proto types and special issue ponies?

I also think g2 copper glow, golden glow and silver glow are quite sought after!

Also curly, apple pie, and bubbles can get pricey from the g2 line!

Yeah, this bothered me a bit too. I mean, the rarest in any gen is going to be an OOAK or a variant, so the question is almost answered before it is asked...
