I posted an ad on one of our local classifieds websites, stating that I am looking for G1 MLP's...
And the very first person that phones me, is a criminal!!!!!
His 'wife' sent me photo's to my email address from her phone (because strangely they do not do whatsapp..?) Some very rare ponies, some even MOC... Luckily I am the total opposite of gullible, so I immediately picked up that the backgrounds of all the photos differ....Now if you pack out a box of MLP's then surely it'll be in the same environment??? I googled the photo's and, there they were, some on ebay and some from other sites!!!!
I am so furious!!! I tried to phone him again to confront him, but both phone numbers are off now...
Just realizing again...when it seems too good to be true, it usually is... :(

Good on you for catching them! :whoa: Is there some way to report them on the site that you posted the classifieds on?
-
I am not really sure, all I have are two cellphone numbers - it could be anyone, anywhere in SA...
-
Sorry Livia! I wonder how they figured out which ponies to offer as I have found knowledge on my little ponies to be rather on the lacking side in SA as a whole. Report them anyway - There is RICA remember. Perhaps they can catch them.
-
Oh yes, can try that :)
I said Generation 1 My Little Pony in my ad, but somehow they knew which pictures to take...
-
They did just like you : they used google to get the photos. So they searched "Generation 1 my little pony" indeed.

wow good sleuthing

Clever

sounds really fishy. i would steer clear...
but. I’ve reused my own photos in some cases to show people things i’m selling. is there a chance that those are their own ebay listings?

No chance at all. He claimed it was a box of toys they're selling, because his grandchild was in an accident or something. Just after I received the photos, I asked them to send close-ups in better light of the one pony, because I already started to doubt their authenticity... Still waiting for that photo....
Anyhow, all the photo's I found on the sites, were from different sellers, and not from SA...

i see. ya. dodgy.

Amazing how low some people are willing to go to scam others.
-
I could never do this to another person. I am so sorry someone tried to trick you. :(

Wow, that was a good catch! So glad you didn't fall for it. :D
