Hi,
I finally found Wave 2 of the All About ponies and was able to get Soarin. Here are some pics.

Oh look, one of the few ponies the short mane doesn't look stupid on
-
Nice! I'm still on the lookout for them myself! :)
-
I like him! :)
-
Congratulations.
-
I wish we got those here!! Are they US exclusive, or did Europe get them?

I live in the US, but they're still slowly trickling into stores here. I've been seeing Wave 1 for a few months now, but Wave 2 I have not seen yet.

Soarin' is a cutie! A bit of trivia, he was named after a kid of one of the animators (kid's name is Soren). :)

I found him in the UK yesterday! He's gorgeous, I had no idea his wings were poseable :)

Probably because his show model has the spiky hair. I wish that they let the boy ponies have hair like the girls, they'd be more fun.
Congrats, Ponyfan!

He looks pretty darn good. Of all places I found him in a bin of ponies at a local gaming store.

Yes, that's exactly the reason why.
And I agree - Hasbro did it in G1, they can do it now.

That's one of my cousins names. :)

Well, there's always a rehairing option.
-
There is, but it's annoying to have to do that to a pony fresh out of the packaging. I'm going to be complaining about this design choice through Hasbro's customer feedback form
-
Thank you everyone. :) I agree that the shorter hair looks better on Soarin than Big Mac. I haven't quite figured out why the boys come with a comb when their hair is too short to use the comb. I think the store I found him at had just put Wave 2 out as I had checked that store several times before and only found Wave 1. There were only two Soarins in all of the Wave 2

I didn't know that. :) I thought he was named Soarin because of the association with flight. That's very interesting.

Agreed!

...I belatedly realized that Hasbro used completely the wrong body for Soarin!
He's not larger like Shining Armor and Big Mac are, nor does he have feathered hooves like they do...
Nice going, Hasbro!

Yes he does? I think you may wanna take a closer look at the photo in the original post.

He's great!

I think you may wanna take a closer look at my post. I said that Hasbro used completely the wrong body. Yes, this toy has feathered hooves... But Soarin's actual design does not. Nor is he supposed to be bigger like Shining and Big Mac are.

Ahh, I see. I think asking for several male shapes would be expecting a bit much when it comes to Hasbro. As great as it'd be to see more unique character molds, I don't see it happening anytime soon.
-
They wouldn't need to, they could just use the basic pegasus mold for his body.

That's clearly asking too much of Hasbro. They shun variety like vampires shun sunlight these days.

Really? Because recycling an existing mold with mere cosmetic differences seems to be their favorite thing especially in MLP :p
-
Can't wait to find him. I didn't know that they had holes on the back to see their real symbols! Were those there with wave 1? I have Big Mac but don't remember that. I like these because they are new characters but still wish they had symbol on the DS.

Yep, Wave 1 had the holes in the package too.

All toy companies do that yes. But the degree which Hasbro has drastically reduced the sheer variety of moulds (and worse characters) since Gen 3 is pitiful.

My point was that they wouldn't need a new mold to do Soarin's body right, they could just use one they've already got.

..So you're suggesting he should've had the boy head and the female pegasus body? That'd look weird o.O The larger male head wouldn't look right with the skinny noodle female legs, I wouldn't think..
-
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. It would look basically like his show design I'd think - A lot of show stallions have more or less identical bodies to the mares, and it's plainly seen with Soarin when he stands next to Spitfire

In general, for sure. But during the past year--not so much. They've made a lot of new molds. Fluttershy with folded wings is one of my favorites.
Even among the baby sea ponies they made three different molds, which is pretty generous given that prior to this 'regular' baby ponies had, what, two molds?
-
They did? I've only seen two baby merpony moulds. :what: Did they announce new ones?
-
Nah, there are three baby sea pony molds: sitting on their tail (Lily Drop), lying down with tail curled under (Sea Poppy), and lying down with tail curled up (Bubble Splash). Each mold also has a unique head sculpt as well. :)

Oh! I didn't know that. We don't have a Sea Poppy to compare, so I assumed that Sea Poppy and Bubble Splash were in the same pose. Neat. Thanks LM, I'll hafta look at them side by side, once she gets Sea Poppy.
-
NP! :) You'll love Sea Poppy, she's so cute!
The 2nd set of babies (which I haven't seen in stores, but they're on Hasbro's toyshop site) are in the same three molds, so there's two babies in each mold. The Lily Drop one is my favorite, so cute.

She’s one of my favorites too and has become my go to sea pony for funny photos. :)

Lilly Drop pose hangs from my lamp beautifully. I have Crystal Pearl and she hangs upsidedown like a bat from my lamp as her permanent home now xd.
Off topic.
I am not a fan of the hair on this pony. I agree with I think it was Ponyfan who said about the hair being like G1 would be nice (ie longer hair on male ponies, too many stereotypes that boys need to have shorter hair...Hasbro did that with Baby Lucky then abandoned it in G1, wish they would do so here.). I actually like his colours, though, so I am really kind of torn on him. I will have to take a trip to TRU to see what he's like in person I think.
...Is it crazy or am I getting the impression (based on what Carrehz said about it being in the UK) that we've had the second set but NOT the first wave (again) with these?
I wanted to send an email to Hasbro about the baby sea ponies but you have to log in and give them all your personal information just to ask them a question, so like heck is that happening O.o. It really seems like Hasbro is producing both waves concurrently but shipping one wave to the US and then the other to the UK/Europe. Hopefully at some point they'll switch and get themselves organised. Sigh.

I found wave 1 in Smyths Toys a few months ago (24th September, to be specific) but I haven't seen them since.

Hrm. I haven't seen them in Smyths at all, but in fairness I am not sure when the last visit was I made there (before today) so I might just have missed them. Reassuring to know they were here, though. Smyths in the areas I get to hunt often drag out old stuff from the warehouse at random intervals so if they ever had it, they might have it again. Especially at home - here in London they're a bit more ruthless. Thanks for letting me know :D
-
I'm not big on this hair style for the boys either. Hoping they change it in future releases.
-
So why is this series called "All about?" Is there some sort of pamphlet included that details the character? Otherwise I don't see the point in giving the series that name.
-
At least it isn't troll hair.

It's because most of them have designs on their sides that tell "all about" them. Tho I don't understand why Songbird, Photo Finish, and Tempest don't have designs on them when they are part of this line too.

No probs, always happy to help another UK collector :) That's weird they haven't shown up in your area, since I think you're in a more 'central' area than me (my 'local' Smyths are both like an hour away) o.O Toy distribution is weird.

Same here. Soarin's hair looks the best out of the three brushable boys, IMO, but I'd still prefer proper long hair for the boys..
I'm really glad they ditched troll hair, though. I'd take the mohawks over troll hair any day.
-
I may have just missed them. I have 2 stores I can check in different regions but not seen them yet...so maybe you were just lucky??
-
Heh, maybe? I've never seen them since so who knows what's going on there.
-
Isn't not knowing what is going on the default setting for anything MLP in the UK?? It's not like our Hasbro has rules
.. ;)
-

We got them in Australia!!!! Just wave 1 for now, but we might get Soarin after Christmas!

The rearing sea ponies actually do have two molds, although they are very similar. Lilly Drop/Crystal Pearl have a smaller tail fin with three rounded points, and their hair consists of a forelock and three smaller mane sections. Jelly Bee/Sea Foam have a larger tail fin with two sharper points, and their hair consists of a forelock and two larger mane sections. ^.^ Meaning that each wave has four unique babies, and the eight total can be divided into four pairs.
-
Ohhhh, thanks for the info! Somehow I forgot there were four babies in each wave! :P

Hey, at least Shining's troll doll hair had enough length to be quasi-stylable. Granted, a long nylon mane would be better.
-
I found him today!
Oh my gosh, I am SO amused with the fact that his wings are poseable. I did not even realize they would do that before.

Oh sure, but you try styling that thing, it's nigh-impossible! It looks awkward no matter what you do :P
