Title: Have anyone used cola againts tail rust?
Post by: Strawberrysweets on November 11, 2017, 01:36:51 AM
My mom suggest it while I tried with toothpaste on Gingerbreads tail.
I know cola can remove rust BUT I am a bit worried it might stain the white hair.

Also a safe way of cutting glued BABY pony heads. Baby diamond have rust tail too.

Hmm, interesting! I would have never thought of that. Maybe you can take one strand of hair and let it sit in the cola for a while to see if it stains it and if it removes therust. Just one strand though! For removing baby pony heads, it's a lot like adult pony heads. I just soften the glue and vinyl around the head with the hottest water you can stand and try to poke into the glue with a blunt object like a butter knife. You could try making a little gap with a sharper knife very slowly to get the separation started

I have heard lots of interesting things about cola and its uses in cleaning - but, like Safflower said, I would be wary and do a strand test in case it stains the white hair.

As for head removal, I am a bit more brutal - I have a small saucepan of simmering water and pop the pony in there to soften the vinyl/glue and then use a blunt knife to ease the head free. I use tongs to handle the pony as you can scald your fingers, but after a few seconds the pony cools down enough to be able to handle it - watch out for stray boiling water inside the body splashing out on you though!

ETA - an old toothbrush + blob of toothpaste works wonders on tail rust too!

Thank you both!
I will see if I have any light doll hair to sacrifice.

I also did not think of boiling water to remove heads...

It'll be okay, Gingerbread!
We never have cola around, so I don't really have the means to try it out, but wouldn't it take longer than just scrubbing with toothpaste?

No, Cola is a pretty strong cleanser... you use it to get oil stains and such off your driveway...

I would think it would work, just stick the tail in a little jar and lightly brush out the rust while you're swishing it in the liquid.

Honestly the BEST thing I have ever found for rusty MLP anything is CLR remover but you HAVE to wear gloves with it...

Scrubed it with tooth paste and its nothing but a light pinkish hue left.
If I get a bait with rusty tail and body i might try out cola more.

In the end I dont think I will get any hole in my hands, so minty smell :U

So, would you say that toothpaste was a success?  :)

For hair, I'd suggest Oxyclean Spray.

For hair, I'd suggest Oxyclean Spray.

If I can find that in Norway I can try it on Diamond.
