Title: No G2 Pegasi?
Post by: ShimmerShine on August 09, 2017, 09:46:39 AM
I love G2, but I just realized that I have never seen a g2 Unicorn or Pegasus outside of the Glow family! Why were there barely different ponies in G2? And why no Pegasi?

Yeah, I love G2 a lot as well but it's a shame there's so little ponies that aren't Earth Ponies. I wish there were more unicorns or even just one pegasus.

Nope, just Earth Ponies and Unicorns. And the uh, magic wing flying ones. I'm not sure what they count as since they're clip-on wings. >_<

I think I've read somewhere, that people only brought the earth and unicorn ponies (G1). Hasbro I think decided to just do earth and unicorn ponies for G2.

I know this bit is off topic but once I researched Mattel and found out during the 90s that people seemed to buy Stacie dolls rather than her twin Todd, and her friends Janet and Whitney.

Todd was finished when people didn't buy him in the doll line McDonalds.
They dropped Whitney and added Lina (or something like that for the Wee 3 Girls).

After the Wee 3 Grils line that didn't do so well, they dropped all of the same size Stacie dolls. When the newer Stacie came out.

Same with Monster High 1st wave Jackson Jekyll and Holt Hyde didn't sell well.

I'm glad that G3 decided to put the pegasi back in.

Leave a Whisper the magic wing flying ones do not count as pegasi

I've never heard of people only buying earth and unicorn ponies.  I don't think that's accurate, as Hasbro produced pegasi for the entire run of G1, and actually introduced them before unicorns in G3.

My guess is that Hasbro just didn't want to mold any new bodies.  With the unicorns, they only had to remold the head.  Perhaps that was cheaper than molding wings on a body.

I was a pegasus obsessed kid. I went looking for pegasus ponies. Stores near me just didn't always have the ones I was looking for, which suggests other people bought them first. I had Masquerade and Braided Beauty, Dancing Butterflies, Rainbow Magic, Bright Bow and Yoyo. I wanted Twinkler, Songster (who I had but she had no wings when released :/) Pearl, Curly Locks, Surfing Days, Nibbles and Dibbles...but could never find any of them....

I like unicorns more now, but in terms of sales that mattered in the eighties, I was a pegasus fangirl :)

I was a fan of both unicorns and pegasi, with unicorns maybe having a slight edge.  :)

Color schemes had the biggest influence on me, though.  If a pony had an awesome color scheme then I wanted it no matter what!

In G1- Hasbro makes tons of amazing pegasus!

In G2-Sorry kids, there's no such thing as pegasus, but look! These ones have awesome wings and you can even use em to clip back your hair- :enraged: :throw:

In G3-Sir, I think we better go back to making pegasus.

Good idea!

At least they're *nice* clip-on wings :p It is a shame they didn't make 'actual' pegasi in G2 though, those would have been lovely...

If you think about how slender and elegant the form is on some of the G2s, especially the unicorns and the colour schemes involved, some really big feathery style wings would be so pretty on them.

My biggest influence was the comic, but I liked pegasus ponies and I chose my favourite pegasus ponies with comic characterisations. Colour scheme came into it only in terms of an anthema to most pink ponies - except if they were pegasus ponies that had a character I liked. Or in the case of Bright Bow, the only baby pegasus pony I ever found in a store ever (unless you count Yoyo, but she's a newborn).

I liked vivid pink like Shady/Snowflake but I didn't have Cotton Candy, Lickety Split, any of those kinds of pink ponies as a kid. But otherwise I don't think I thought much about pony colour scheme...it was all on the comic.

I just saw my first G2 in real life last weekend. I didn't get their appeal until then. I don't have interest in collecting them, but they ARE really cute. I think a G2 pegasus would've been absolutely precious. What a bummer that they never made any!

I've never heard that either.

Hasbro was not really the designer of G2s ,it was designed by Kenner ,they were bought out and the 2 brands came on the first g2s released .so the whole line is not as the rest for that reason .

But to me they are Alicorns and Pegasi with their clip on wings

I consider the ones with clip-on wings as pegasus ponies :) with magic that can make their wings invisible ;). But molded wings would have been neat!
